This is a nice looking craft, but you're carrying much too much wing area around with you.

is it possible to gimball Toroïdal Aerospike engine
Mat2ch replied to gilflo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, in reality you wouldn't gimbal an Aerospike engine, just close one of the inlet valves for it. But the much better engine for Eve is the Vector. It has much more power and can gimbal! But if you fear about the weight, use a vector and several Aerospikes on the outside. -
I've remapped a few keys, because the defaults don't fully work on linux and a qwertz keyboard. For example switching vessel is now on o and p, showing the navball on -. I also remap the thrust keys, because I need shift to tab out and into the game, without accelerating

I love space planes, but I've never manged to build a Space Shuttle-alike, which I then could fly into orbit. They always went uncontrollable a short while after launch and I couldn't make a precise insertion. And getting back is a sad story, too. Since I used three vectors at the back the CoM tends to be very far at the back and the drag from the cargo parts made my shuttle flip But my ssto space planes, they all fly great. After some tweaking, of corse. And I love them

The Linux Thread!
Mat2ch replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Well, I have the feeling that linux users are still second class, when it comes to such things. But before I want to blame someone I try to think like they did: They've never experienced the bug themselfs, they thought that this is a minor bug which happens only to a few people and they were working now for over a year on the port to Unity 5. The fix for this problem (and several other) would have been to upgrade to Unity 5.3, which could bring many more problems and there's no guarantee that it's really fixed in a newer version. Also there are workarounds or it may be annoying but still works. Helly Fourier, please read the last few pages of this thread, this has been discussed there. -
The Linux Thread!
Mat2ch replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
This is already reported in the bug tracker. (By me of course ) Some stencil error, which is a Unity bug. I'm eagerly awaiting an upgrade to Unity 5.3.whatever, where this is hopefully fixed. -
Crash on leaving VAB - double free?
Mat2ch replied to saskwach's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I usually get that on my first launch of the day from the VAB. This is a Unity5 thing and I hope that Squad ports KSP to the latest version of U5 and that this bug is fixed there. -
Well, I was the one who figured out that you have to change the resolution ingame to something different than the screen window. This is some Unity bug, because the buttons can be displayed. I said that it was important to fix this issue before the release of 1.1, because there will be complaints. And you are only the tip of the iceberg, there will be soon many more. But nobody tends to listen to me somehow, maybe because I'm too nice.

I had fun with the pre-release and built a bridge: And driving on it! Or driving near it: And destroying it! (Tough thing. Shouldn't have used so much struts...) The bridge is > 600 parts, btw. and the game runs ok. Timer goes to yellow, so it's a bit too much for the game, but still playable, no 5 fps slideshow.
-
Oh well, I just built an oversized space plane. This time I had too much liquid fuel on board. Usually it's the other way round. This has only 80 parts and is barely playable on my computer. I need 1.1! Neeeeeeeeeed!

Kerbal Space Program 1.1 Hype Train Thread.
Mat2ch replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The grass is much greener in 1.1! Want! -
Twice now. This time crewed. And I managed to land near the Canyon. And get down there. Ok, Jeb got down there. And it was more falling than getting...
-
Uhm... Once... with a probe. I should go back to Dres someday.

KSP 1.1 Reached Experimental Testing
Mat2ch replied to CraftedDoge20PlaysKSP1.0.5's topic in KSP1 Discussion
KSP Is in experimentals for a while now. But now video makers are allowed to make videos of it and I'm totally happy about it. Now we can watch all the cool stuff that awaits us, but also see, why it's still in experimental. There are still a few bugs left. I watched the stream of Jimorian for a while and in a very short time he triggered three bugs. And all stuff that would happen to me as well. And one was game breaking as well, so he almost lost Jeb. With the pre-release such bugs would be reported over and over again and it's good to test this in a small circle with people knowing how to report a bug and providing all the necessary details to recreate (and then fix) the bug. I'm very thankful that Squad decided to let 1.1 be shown. Now we can watch and wait. -
Hi, I know that feeling too well. At a certain point I had done everything I wanted. It was tiring to build huge ships to get my Kerbals somewhere. I only sent probes to the outer planets, because they're smaller and easier to build, because they don't need a return trip. I came to the point where I felt the obligation to bring them back and care for them. And now I'm only fireing KSP up, to kill time, maybe fly to Minmus. But even going to Duna is tiring and the trip is long, even with timewarp at max. My last Jool mission took over a week and I disliked that. I want to finish what I've started and so I'm stuck with small contracts, because I can't go to Jool and back on the same day. I only have an hour to spare per day, maybe two, but that's it. And manage missions among my regular life was just too much. Even my latest attempt to drive to the North Pole was a big challenge, although it was pretty relaxing, because most of the time I had to hold down one key and watch the scenery. Maybe with 1.1 I'll do another big mission again. But I wont promise. Update: Liking this post is a nice gesture, but feels bit wrong
-
Today I finally finished my journey to the North Pole. It was crazy to even begin with this. Will I do this again? Maybe for charity, but not for "fun"...
-
Woah, that's harder than driving on Kerbin. I just have to make sure to be careful of 4x physics timewarp around edges. They tend to be rock hard somehow. But I made good progress, 200 km on my way, 600 to go.
-
I'm currently driving to the north pole... so KSP has something for everyone
-
Except that we're talking about an engine update here were pretty much of the whole old system has to be replaced.
-
Me neither! I already created a cleaned up KSP folder so nothing goes wrong on the update \o/
