  1. Oo! A nice thread! Here's one craft that needs testing, my modded space shuttle which uses KJR, proc. parts, tweakscale, IR, and kerbpaint. It is already fully released, but I recognize that there are likely several problems with the craft, which has flown only a few times. A thing to not is that around 7 kilometers there is a lot of pitch toward the ground force, and SAS can't fully account for this. I've put some instructions and notes in the space shuttles dedicated thread here. The KerbalX download is here. Here is an example launch album.
  2. I have 165 rep till the 2nd light green, and notably, I made a space shuttle!
  3. Sadly due to a busier than expected day and some strangeness when loading crafts in my save (game crashes while loading already launched crafts,) expect nothing today.
  4. Thanks! I might try and see if my Centaur G Prime works on this space shuttle too.
  5. I hope to release The Asteroid Sentinels Series 4B Finale today or tomorow, currently doing the mission now!
  6. STS Space Shuttle After dozens of hours of work, here is my replica of the space shuttle, the face of NASA for some 3 decades. This is a functional replica of the powerful rocket at a mere 230 parts, and with adjustments, capable of carrying payloads of at least 25 tons into low keratin orbit. The replica features uses of LFO to make the OMS run off realistic-isn fuels. This partially reusable spacecraft is capable of recovery back at the KSC runway. The SRBs are also recoverable, with drogues and main parachutes. I have tried making space shuttles in the past (once back in March for a Magellan craft that kickstarted my replica building), but none have been as good as this one, which is far better balanced. This craft has an empty cargo bay. This craft is unique in using a 5 segment cargo bay, and custom wing part OMS pods. Mods: Procedural Parts (custom style tanks and boosters), Tweakscale (extensive scaling of engines, and to make the custom OMS pods, part reduction etc), Kerbpaint (Changes colors on some parts), Infernal Robotics (makes the space shuttle antenna come to life), and KJR (massive part reduction, allows 2X, even 3X time warp on ascent). This is one of the hardest of my replicas to fly during some phases of the launch, first with the factors of extensive thrust limiting for individual engines. The takeoff thrust at liftoff should be the default 50%, and a full attempt to pitch back the booster with effort. In the following kilometers, the overall thrust must be increased, then the lower two engines must have the engine thrust boosted. The RCS is not needed during ascent, though at around 8 kilometers the STS assembly will try to pitch towards the ground, so you will have to account for that and fly a steep trajectory, and be around 60-70 degrees at that altitude to combat the pitch in the next few seconds of the flight. The SRBs will separate. Later, the bottom engines will need to be throttled as low as 70% to keep the rocket from pitching. OMS will be needed for those who want to carry large payloads Reentry is done in a standard reentry not unlike that of other space shuttles. Action Groups 1 toggles the cargo bays. 2 turns off the bottom engines. 3 turns off the top one. 4-5 changes the rotation of the antenna base of the shuttle 6-7 changes the antenna dish roatation 8-9 changes the hinge of the dish base 0/10 starts fuel cell production. Capacities Several tons off only ET fuel, 25 tons with slightly raised fuel levels and major OMS fuel consumption Download (Kerbal X) Subassemblies: IUS almost complete Galileo, Ulysses WIP Albums Craft launch, orbit, landing The space shuttle was originally built for my Galileo replica as well as Ulysses, but Galileo has been delayed till the heat bug is fixed. The IUS is fine however, so that subassembly will be released soon. I also would like to build Ulysses, as well as comsat payloads. If any of you have built craft adapted to fly aboard this space shuttle, please tell me in this thread and I will happily add it to the list. If any of you find bugs with the craft, please tell me, and I will fix them in future releases. Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful time!
  7. Do you think something like the newest entry helps with that a bit? I tried to follow up on the tips about formatting, and in the description on top I put the color code (to some extent). I gave my characters some reason to exist and also make them less one sided.
  8. Today was a school day off, so I decided to use the time to my advantage to... Screw around with a ripoff of a Minekaze destroyer in better buoyancy... Have an AI fight, one ship got incapacitated... Made some KVVs for the Space Shuttle release Tomorrow? Finally, made an meeting room as a prop for The Asteroid Sentinels, my ksp story.
  9. Jebediah Kerman (In Blue) has a quiet but moving discussion in the meeting rooms of the Administration building with his adversary (In crimson-gold). This one's short but an important point to give Jeb and his crew members a bit more character and meaning.Do you like the meeting room? Would you like it to be used again? How was the discussion? What do you think of the morality of both characters? Also notable 7000 views! Thank you for keeping a slow to unfold but long running webcomic alive!
  10. Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Io receive 3600 rem vs Europa's 540? To be honest, while the search of life doesn't have much prospect on Io, the volcanoes and geography (Iography?) would be a sight to behold!
  11. I posted another entry for the Asteroid Sentinels, would any of you like to see the newspaper format again? Do you enjoy the inclusion of Kerbonauts? What do you think about the spacecraft? Would any of you be interested if I integrate a big asteroid plot into the story?
  12. Alright! Series 4 B3 is now up! This is to be the third to last entry of my single longest series, Series 4. The construction of the Minmus refinery and Asteroid hotel seem to be whole and jolly, but several changes are made, and an insight into the space program is revealed. What do you all think about newspapers as a way of a sort of insight into the KSC? What do you think happens next? Do you agree with Mort? How is your opinion of the Jedediah master plan?
  13. I dressed as Marty McFly, which somehow most people didn't recognize... Anyway, I got maybe two hundred candies... I don't eat them too fast, might take a month to finish it all Only three parties of people came to the house too, there's a ridiculous excess.
  14. I've been working on Galileo , I've gotten it on suborbital trajectories, but for some reason I can't interact with I-beams and such, and staging sometimes. With that and multiple overheat buginess, I'm wondering if I should hold the STS-34 payload till 1.1 and release the Space Shuttle standalone? What do you think about that?
  15. I browse the forums so much, when I type R to get to reddit, the forums are actually first because of the r in forum
  16. 0/10 Don't think I've see you before!
  17. I've done that, but activity and feedback is still not present, which isn't very fun.
  18. Tried to make a Fletcher Class inspired Destroyer, as far as i'm concerned, it's not going so well. It has a 100 intakes and it doesn't really float. It's also top heavy, which seems very much like what the USS Sims was found to be in its early design...
  19. The KSC Press Conference is over, and Jeb begins to explain his daring plan to get science and try and defy Mortimer Kerman. For largely unimportant events that happen slowly, do you thing Press Conferences are a good way of condensing those events? What do you think of the Jebediah Master Plan? Do you think introducing kerbonauts into the story is a good idea? How are my car making skills?
  20. Cool medals and a quote great for your name 7/10
  21. On Thursday I got the Space Shuttle into orbit, but I didn't get laptop time yesterday so no pics till today, I sent up an IUS with a 4 ton ballast payload, next up: can it carry a 25 ton payload to orbit? Also, I botched the landing but the kerbals survived. I had to fly a steep trajectory, more so then I usually ever do. Engines still need to thrust limit themselves during the initial liftoff and during the SSME burn only phase. Edit: The payload made it to orbit: sadly I released the payload before the OMS burn, but it probably would work anyway.
