totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
SaturnianBlue replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Started work on a Mega-project, Jupiter July. Can anyone guess what probe it is? It's still a really basic version and yes, this will use mods. (it was pioneer 10, looks like some one has the answer far too obviously.) -
Well, it ruins his eve gravity assist intentions, he wanted his Oberth effect.... Plus, it's been a classic: ruining/delaying my transits to eve If we tried to go with it, we would have gone 1/2 way to moho I decided to use my second stage, I only packed 500m/s, I've gotten the mission up to Eve approach. I wanted to go full Oberth Effect, and there would be a reason why, including the above . If he's Jean? Not sure...

THE ASTEROID SENTINELS Due to the release of the Asteroid Day mod, I decided to write a graphic novel detailing my explorations of asteroids. It's notable that there is a huge bump in production quality and plot over time, which is why there are a couple ways to read The Asteroid Sentinels. 1. You can read the whole thing from Series 1. It's good if you want to know every bit in the story, but the current stories are quite different in format and plot from the first ones. 2. You can also read from Series 5 with this Star Wars-style title crawl that summarizes the Series 1-4. (Series 5's format is quite similar to the current ones) COMPANION THREADS Self-Analysis and More on the Series (Read it after you've read the series) The Many Ships of The Asteroid Sentinels Read all of Series 2 here (No Series 1, since it is all on this page, and some dialogue was on the forums itself. Both series don't have much character development, but still key to plot. 1 and 2 cover Sentinel and ADM. Series 3 (Switch to Powerpoint, some character, ARM launches) Interlude (Crisis) (Lots of character advancement) Series 4+4B (12 entries, main themes take rise) Series 5 (10 entries, Includes holiday special, etc) Interlude 2 (Transit) Series 6 Series 7 starts on this page. You can read the whole thing here. CRAFTS SENTINEL Space Telescope (Uses Asteroid Day Mod) Phoenix Supersonic Aircraft Gene Kerman: So what's the trajectory? Surely Elon's Falcon is too large for an LKO mission right? Why Infrared? Wernher Von Kerman: Nah, Heliocentric. We'll send it on a Eve flyby to cut the orbit, and because when we're inside Kerbin's Orbit, we will be able to investigate Asteroids IN Kerbin's orbit, something our telescopes on Kerbin can't do. We'll toss on the Infrared Scope because it can find faint objects we wouldn't see coming on our normal telescopes. Gene: So once we find a asteroid heading for us, we will deflect it with a large rocket? Wernher Von Kerman: Sure thing, I'm working on it. Hopefully we can capture it to study it too! Wernher Von Kerman: Launch window is in 10 days, we'll have to be quick but safe about it. End Of Entry 1.

The Gravity Recovery and Interior laboratory Twin spacecraft launched aboard a Delta II rocket to map the Gravitational field of the moon to determine it's interior structure in 2012. It used a low energy transfer using the L1 Lagrange point to reduce fuel requirements. While you can't do that in KSP (yet), this replica can still orbit the moon. It had a short mission, lasting less than an year, but conducted major science before it impacted into the moon. It was part of the Discovery Program of low cost mission less than 450 Million$. Now you can study the Mun's gravity with my replica of the twin space probes nicknamed Ebb and Flow. It comes with a few science experiments, weighs 1299 Kg, 60 parts, and a hefty 703 m/s of delta-V. It's monopropellant powered like the real spacecraft. Download Thank you for stopping by, and leave some rep if you enjoyed! (Happens to be the first time I saw and screenshot a mun arch too )

GRAIL, the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory, twin Lunar probe of NASA's Discovery Program. By sheer luck, the first time I saw the mun arch too. -
Stock Atlas V 551 Replica
SaturnianBlue replied to SaturnianBlue's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
It depends I don't fuel it all the way, but I haven't really flown heavy payloads to LKO, but I have a New horizons knockoff shooting out of the Kerbol system I do think though, that you can easily carry payloads exceeding 10 tons to LKO. -
Here is my Atlas V 551 replica, which is my first replica in 1.0.4. The first stage is equipped with all the fuel lines the real Atlas V has, and the Centaur stage has realistic thrust. This replica is at 98 parts and weighs 288 tones. I have also managed to fix the tumbling and vulnerabilities to loss of control. The bottom of the Centaur had serious overheat problems (as well as my Delta II Heavy), but I have managed to fix it. This Recreation has high TWR (around 1.8) though not as high as the real Atlas V, which had about 2.1. The Atlas V 551 was used to launch spacecraft such as New Horizons and Juno. This recreation has a Boattail like the Atlas V, made with wing parts, but there is the stock fairing too. If you enjoy this replica, feel free to post pics down below, and if you have a subassembly, submit it here. This replica has been inspired by Majorjim's amazing Atlas 541/Curiosity replica. Download Flight Instructions -SAS engage, throttle, ignition -Start turning right after liftoff, turn to about 80 degrees by 1km. -Reach around 45 when you pass ~10kms. Continue to turn, and ditch the first stage as you reach high into the atmosphere. -Use the Centaur to circularize/ raise apoapsis. With an flea SRB, this rocket can be used to send a New Horizon like probe out of the Kerbol system. Thanks for reading!

What is the avatar of the person above you saying/thinking?

Great Scott! -
I clip them into tanks to make big solid rocket boosters and just used them as well, boosters. Nice for small rocket central stages, and sometimes, if you know the delta v values well, as a orbital kick motor (think Star 48 IRL)

7/10 I see you mainly on these forum game threads (wow, 7/10s every time I visit this thread )

7/10 I loved trains when I went to countries with lots of trains, but where I live there is literally 1 passenger station, so I lost my interest quickly... I do have a model train, and it works though.

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
SaturnianBlue replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Continuing my Delta II variants, I've built a Delta II Heavy, precisely a Delta 7920H-10C. Still a WIP, because I'm stuck on 1.0.0, and haven't updated to 1.0.4, as well as a few more potential details could be done -
7/10, So it was a symmetry bug eh? Nice craft

7/10, I like trains. -
Running KSP 1.0, being both lazy and not being really allowed to update anyway (Mac storage is low, and since I have to redownload from store, because launcher isn't working like with all Mac computers.) I do plan to start career when I go to 1.0.4

[Showcase] Showoff Your Rep-Worthy Crafts
SaturnianBlue replied to Redrobin's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Ariane 5G, worked on it over a week, especially detailed, with SYLDA, and 2 satellites inspired by real spacecraft busses. Custom engine design, round custom fuel tanks, SRB thrust tapering, etc. -
Finally drew an avatar today, my avatar is pretty literal, the Blue Saturnian skies (Did you know that Saturn's skies are very much like Earth, but there is a ocher haze below?). I drew it in Autodesk SketchBookExpress (Yes OP, we have very similar software) with my wacom tablet, which I haven't been using recently. I also have the Delta 2, my favorite rocket in the center, and some moons and yes, space probes. I looked and kind copied it a few pictures. Kind of a quickly done drawing, but I thought it would be good practice to get back to the drawing tablet.
