Kerbal Dynamics: The Kessel Run
Nefrums replied to ihtoit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
This sound like a fun and hard challenge. I have some questions: Do we start from kerbin? Launchpad or LKO? Is a Kerbin encounter required between eve and duna encounters? Are we allowed to use hyper edit to place space stations in various orbits before the run? Do the ship have to return to kerbin (within the 12 years time) after visiting all planets?- 28 replies

I finished my entry on normal difficulty. I did the the following missions in my career game: Day 1: some science gardening on the launchpad and runway. A rocket out of the atmosphere. A driving trip round KSP Mun flyby. This gave enough silence to make mun/minmus landings possible Day 3 i launched landers to minmus and mun. During this time I also launched two trips to orbit the mun with 4 tourists aboard, and made 5 rescue missions that each rescued 2 kerbals from LKO. This in combination with the mun/minmus landings gave the funds to upgrade the RND etc. Here are some of the ships that i used: Note that for 1k dV extra a minmus trip can be done in half the time. Day 17 I was ready to launch the probe to moho. This is the 2.5 t probe:

I will TRY TO DO A 6000m\s JET SPEED RECORD !!!!
Nefrums replied to prorokbmx's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
It is an inline fairing. Not sure if I reached flaimeout speed before AP. But that should not be a problem to do. -
I've started a new career game to try this challane. It is fun to try to get enough science in only 39 kerbin days. I'm currently at day 5 and have two landers heading for minmus and one for the mun. Will send more as soon as I rescue enough crew for them. It is also hard to get enough credits to upgrade the RnD building.

Just point the ship down, and let the rockets help gravity. You don't need negative lift when using jets as there are no stock jets that produce any thrust at above 1752 m/s -

The inline fairing pruduce drag depending on the angle of it. Pointier is better. The docking ports drag is not affected at all by the fairing. Note that the docking ports drag is still affected by the size of the node it is attached to, despite that that is behind the fairing. -
It was 42 acording to the wiki...

Well the highest speed possible with only jets apears to be the same in 1.0.5 as it was in previous versions. Rapiers sill flame out at at ~1751 m/s Easily verified by just adding MOAR BOOOOOSTERSS!! -

But that is on Laythe right? Is that not against the rules? -
9/10 I see you all the time in the challenges forum section

Having more TWR is almost always better. One thing that saves a lot of dV is the initial acceleration of the pad, Getting to ~200 m/s fast helps. Also start the gravity turn right of the pad. Just do an small initial turn to 85-80 right after launch how much depends on you twr. After that just hold prograde. If you have leveled out to 30-40 degrees by the time you pass 10km the initial turn was right. The basic rule about the angle of climb is that it should be as low as possible while you are still be able to keep the AP in front while holding prograde. On conventional rockets I aim to be at ~700 m/s at 10km going at about 30-35 degree climb. With space planes I try to reach Mach 5 (~1500m/s) at 10km climbing 6-7 degrees

I was wondering that as well. It sound simpler just to send up Gliido to get the crew. Do we see a test of some emergency rescue equipment to be used when if jeb crashes Skimmeroo.

This sound like a fun but rather lengthy challenge. I'll might try it Converting a 24 hour day to a 6 hour day is just multiplying by 4. Accoring to KSP Launch Window Planner by alexmoon the first window is: Departure: Year 1, day 39 at 1:06:09, Arrival: Year 1, day 130 at 5:31:39 (Kerbin time) Total Δv: 5,253 m/s

The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Nefrums replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
mechjeb is allowed. You can do anything you want using any mods you want as long it is not part of the actual mission. Most of us test the landers with help of hyperedit or save editing before going to Jool -
Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition

Never mind that old mk12 ship, here is the new mk13! I stuffed Jeb among the cargo to keep track of it with his mechjeb Payload fraction 56.63% -
Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition
Nefrums replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Here is two more, The ship mas before and after payload is detached. The mass clearly decreases with 64330 kg.... so payload fraction should be 56.44% @tewpie you only are only 0.01 % ahead.. -
Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition
Nefrums replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I made some calculations on my ship in order to improve it, but the number did not add up. The weight I calculated that the ship/payload should have did not match the screenshots I had taken. Luckily I had a save with the payload just deployed in orbit. Can someone please explain this to me? Is KER displaying the wrong mass??? Or have I missed something. -
Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition
Nefrums replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well done! I'm not sure external payloads is better. Cargo bays add wight but they also have better drag than external cargo. The wings you have at the back, wouldn't it be better to offset them apart rather than angling them? I'll try adding another 120 ore in my ship and see it it makes orbit. that should give 56,50% -
Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition
Nefrums replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I also spend a few weeks in that binge Locking forward to you giving me a reason to continue development of my entry As i had ~90 dV left in orbit I think that I could just add some more ore in the payload. And the nosecones I used for the rapiers might not be the best, so I feel that I still have some room for improvement. -

If you are a famous Kerbal? There is no greater fame than to be in a web comic I might consider it as There is a clear lack of names. Whatever gave you that idea?
