Finished testing the Interplanetary Launchpad parts, so I could start collecting the required pieces in LKO before abandoning KSC for good. But since I wanna make my new base on Laythe, I had a sudden surge of insanity an idea - so I decided that everything I intend to take should travel as SSTO-planes. First one is in orbit: If you are wondering, that's a 10 ton smelter in the middle that will manufacture parts from ore. I can't decide if it's the ugliest, or the stupidest SSTO I ever made. Probably the latter, as it will take a total of one trips to Laythe, than it gets built into my new base. So I get none of the economical merits of using a spaceplane, just the hassle.

Hint: the runway is wider, so the craft probably could fit on that. At least with less pain.

I can cook anything, and even if I just make 'something creative' with the available ingredients, people say it's delicious. Unbiased people I mean. My secret: my mom was an awful cook, so I had to learn to do it better at a very young age if I wanted good dishes.

They told me some technobabble too, but I don't believe them. I think they only gave it to me so I keep launching it to Kod knows where, so I let them do the researching without interruptions. Than when I approach them proudly, showing goo that was on another planet or so, they go 'aww director, very interesting data (supressed giggle), let us study it for a few days... maybe on the weekend too.. we might be able to develop a battery that's bigger... or a wing with a different shape! Keep it coming!'

If I look at it this way, being limited by costs and locked technologies does nothing either than adding frustrations. Though I'd rather use the word 'limitations'. And someone on a gaming forum once told me that limitations create challenge, and challenge creates fun. I keep these words close to my hearth ever since. I just accepted the fact that if I want to enjoy every hour of a career playtrough, I need to tailor the income rates of various resources to go along with the goals and limitations I set to myself, and the mods I use. Though since KSP can be played -so- -many- -ways-, preset difficulties will only cover a fraction of the possibilities. I don't mind that I have to tailor the rewards to meet my preferences. That doesn't mean I don't hate it when I miscalculate, and a certain resource becomes irrelevant or too limiting, thus forcing me to grind (or to edit the save).

Not to mention people to people... hece I started the thread. I'm interested in opinions. Though I had the impression that Squad's vision is a very modular game, where each palyer can pick features made by other players to suit their playstyles. Thus I'm puzzled why it matters to someone if a functionality we decide to use is made by the devs or modders. I'm very open to see the other side of the coin... I'm just failing to do so.

I'm certain it is. If it wasn't, a rule would mention it. But the only bit about modded parts doesn't. Here: Though I get it - the Spaceplane Guidance's autoland feature smells fishy. Never noticed it before, I should give it a try. BTW... I love that MJ speed-height graph it makes about the ascent profile, so I always had a module when I did SSTOs.

I keep seeing that comment a lot, but I don't get it. I mean there are mods that I couldn't play the game without by now. Some of those might take some time to get patched to a new version once it's released - but it will be done eventually. I bet the authors of the these would still do their releases, even if KSP included similar features - that already seems to be the case with some mods. So... what's the merit of a stock feature compared to a mod that does the same perfectly well?

Now that you called my attention it, I listened to the broadcast. It wasn't half bad. Though I felt like Hermione probably did on the Muggle Studies classes - it's interesting to see how outsiders see a subculture you are a part of, but you won't really hear anything new.

Than I add a very significant number, so it turns 20 (on the positive side of course).

Modern technology it too complicated. You should try to design spaceboats with coal and steam in mind. You could also try nailing a long plastic sheet to clouds, so you ascent profile stay the same if you follow that. Why does my dog afraid of a vacuum-cleaner while he is perfectly calm while I use a hairdrier on him? -
Dang. I remember I watched the Labyrinth when I was like 4. Even though I found him intimidating in it, I cheered for Bowie all along. Guess I was a fan of him before I knew what music is. Sad day it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MolWhOGhRc

That's my main problem with the challenge - for many players the limiting factor isn't their engineering or launching profficiency, but their hardware. As player who runs the game of a potato, I'd never consider to launch a huge station in one piece with 10fps if I can assemble it in orbit. I could use mods to compress textures, weld the station together to reduce part-count, etc - but than it becomes a KSP optimization challenge. I'll just stick to small, functional outposts on locations where I really need those.

0.42 in average. A bit less with american accent, a bit more with cockney. Where the heck is my lighter? Can't find it since like minutes. -
Was it an interesting recording or a mundane one? I'd hate to turn off my music for -minutes- to find it out for myself.

You can get that at any shoreside diner, or at the frozen-section of inland markets. Could I globally tax sunlight if I can prove that I started the solar fusion? -
Yes. But the title of the article is "The attraction of mundane video games". That title with bold letters sits above a KSP screenshot. That's enough for people to comment. Again, it's just a poorly chosen adjective for the headline of an uninteresting article. But was it actually a bad choice of words? They say that even bad publicity is good publicity. It works - noone cared if they wrote 'realistic' instead. But alas, here we are, generating traffic for that site while we talk about semantics.

Media people say silly stuff sometimes. I know, I work there too. Though the author raises a fair point, that can even be interesting for non-gamers. Not that he could have said anything new to us. The adjective used there isn't the best one as it could read 'dull or unimaginative'. We don't have to explain how far it is from the truth. It's also an unlucky choice of word as the new KSP players first tasks are usually attempts to leave mundus. But it's definately more 'mundane' than for example Master of Orion, WoW, Star Citizen or <insert kinda' any non simulation game title here>. A meaningless statement for us, but we aren't the target audience for that site. TLDR: Who cares..

Hahh, you almost made me think it turned negative again.. but that would be unhealthy. Let me fix that. +11

I'd totally try pushing those to suborbital with the rescue craft's deorbit burn. I'd observe the interaction between the metal surfaces and call it science. Though I could never be bothered to 'properly' clean the junk I piled up in orbit. The standard boosters and command pods are too numerous and too easy to deal with. Klaw, a few 'chutes. A heatshield if it's on a high orbit. Though I greatly enjoy to bring down big and heavy objects - outdated crafts, modules even bases that never intended to land. There are contracts for these, so I just park them on LKO until their time comes. Hint for extra fun: klaw some wings on the junk and glide it down.

We analized your negative capabilities and you are unable to withstand us. Your culture will adapt to service us. We are the Pos(+). Resistance is futile. +10

Sure thing. Anyways, started a game with similar goals in mind. I never knew EPL is such a refined, complex mod. I wanna' base my space program from Laythe. So I started a career game with 3k sci, but 10% science income. I hope that will provide the tech needed for the exodus, but it will still leave me enough stuff to do later. Currently I'm setting up a test-facility next to KSC - hopefully I'll be satisfied with all the elements by the time the first Jool launch window opens. Than I intend to send a flotilla, and never look back. Though I guess the 'no fuel' part will be left out. As I won't be sending the raw materials from Kerbin, I'll already need a mining-transporting-refining operation for ore. Doing the same with the fuel feels would only add to my base part count and would require extra hassle. I'm playing on a potatoe, and has a short attention-span. Hopefully it wil last long enough to finish the project. I also hope constructing ships on Laythe will be as reinvigorating to my spacy interests as I imagine it will be. Less dV needed to orbit, and Tylo is a slingshot-monster compared to the Mun. I'll probably grab a planet-pack once the offworld economy is set, so I can explore around like in the good 'ol times.

I would use a strong VTOL with a Klaw under it. Stock if I wanted irritating.hard, or 'ThrottleControlledAvionics' driven if I was just looking for fun-hard.
