Yup, same here. Spent ages building an almost successful VTOL, duplicated a part and this exact thing happened. The craft file was rendered completely unusable, even when I re-started the game . Ah well.

Re-investigating the crash site I posted about way back on this page. The rover is called "Marvin 1" (after I gave up on trying to spell Mervyn. Even spell check had no idea what I was trying to spell...)

Barger Kerman, Lander pilot from R.S. Tundra, planting the flag on Duna whilst the other 5 find their feet on this low gravity body. The full mission: <iframe class="imgur-album" width="70%" height="550" frameborder="0" src="http://imgur.com/a/YXN95/embed"></iframe>

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread

Never seen anybody do that before. Must hurt, unless you have a particularly stretchy jaw -
My new ship, R.S. Tundra fully assembled but unmanned over Kerbin. Planning to send a crew of 9 to Duna and put 6 of them on the surface. ...Or, it might run out of fuel half way there, forever adrift in the void around Kerbol... only one way to find out!
-
How could I not put epic music in the background. Also, I just found Kerb-cam's Slow Motion Feature...

Behold; Epic Areobraking failiure over Eve! The ship is made out of loads of metal panels connected by small docking ports, by assigning these ports to action groups I can cause them to disconnect in sequence and create this awesome effect! <iframe class="imgur-album" width="100%" height="550" frameborder="0" src="http://imgur.com/a/Bw35T/embed"></iframe> Hyperedit was used by the way, I am never going to get that thing all the way to eve without it After building loads structures in this way; Satellites, Probes, Space stations and so on, I think I will combine footage of them into one destructive video!

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread

When you hold up your pen, and slowly dismantle it piece by piece, making subtle hissing and clunking noises. (and then proceed to forget how it fits back together ) -
I discovered that when Alt + Shift are held down in the VAB or SPH, grabbing any part will move the entire vessel, rather than having to find and drag the main Pod. It saves time trying to clip the camera through things, in order to find that tiny probe core you buried under a mass of scientific parts.

Various career mode Screenshots: 1. The "New Depths" probe finishes it's mission by slamming into Jool in order to take atmospheric readings. 2. Jorbus Kerman showing off on Gilly 3. Ran out of fuel on Minmus return. Taking advice from an old Scott Manley video. 4. The beginning... and end of a Space Shuttle Program (Don't worry, it was unmanned. I take my Kerbal's safety way too seriously )
-
Yup, literally just happened to me a few seconds ago, half way to gilly. Hence, I am viewing this thread and staring disapprovingly at the Kerbal on the KSP Icon... I'm not angry little guy. I'm just very disappointed.

After hitting the ground a little too hard, the capsule popped off one of my 3-man landers as seen on the left, (This is why you don't try to land in the dark with no landing lights) So I sent this sketchy looking thing to rescue them. "Well, we're out of RCS, so you guys are going to have to lean in order to keep this thing straight. What? How will you know when someone needs to lean? Oh don't worry, you'll know." A somewhat... harder landing than anticipated, but hey. 3 (slightly charred) alive Kerbals! Honest, they are alive. They are just sleeping.
-
Quick tip, whenever this happens (and it happens to my Kerbals quite a lot), use time warp for a second or two. It re-sets the physics and usually causes them to jump back up again.

First manned Duna landing in 0.22 Career mode. I like to write full mission reports for all my flags I am yet to fly the return trip.

The best new lines from science you have found so far?

He looks so pleased with himself -
Are old save files compatible with 0.22...?
zpox357 replied to darkstrike's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, unless you have any crafts resting inside what is now the R&D facility. That could be problematic. -
Maybe some "Super heavy" structural elements could be added. Large, heavy duty frames and Beams that would allow a probe to withstand the pressure and high gravity.

Hello, I don't often post suggestions, but I was thinking about re-entry the other day and wondering how damage will be handled and rendered (if all) on re-entry. I then struck upon an Idea whilst watching one of the old re-entry demos on YouTube that I would like to share. Unfortunately, I have very limited experience when it comes to game development and modelling, so this is as much of a question as it is a suggestion, asking the more experienced among the community "would this even work", as well as "is it a good idea?". Rather than rendering more particles to simulate parts breaking up, or simply applying a charred effect, I wondered if the parts mesh could have a transparent "disintegrating" effect applied to the sides being heated, along with a charring effect around the edges. This effect would be animated and slowly grow and eventually cover the part at which point it would become invisible and be deleted. The joints between parts would also break and fall off. I sketched up this diagram to visualise the concept. Using my nooby logic, I guess this would be easier to render as it would not involve the creation of new entities, only the modification of meshes belonging to the parts. I would love feedback on the idea, and maybe improvement suggestions (Provided the idea would even work, of course) Thanks + I know re-entry damage is listed under the "what not to suggest" thread, but I assume that means don't suggest it as a feature, rather than don't suggest ways of implementing it.

Has anyone ever been using part clipping, and attached the lower connection node of a decoupler to the engine above it, rather than the upper connection node? If you have ever done this before, you will know what I mean, but I have had so many missions where stages fail to detach due to this. Once or twice, I even used the transfer stage to land on the Mun rather than the Landing engines. Both tipped over due to lack of landing legs on the transfer stage... unsurprising really.

I like the idea of having some sort of subtle reference to the game, not in text, but perhaps in minimalistic imagery. Such as a cracked Kerbal helmet or the crashed "Mun or Bust" Lander from the main menu. The logo could still be in the corner. Still love the current merchandise though.

Killing your Kerbals: does it make you feel bad?
zpox357 replied to Boris_T_Roach's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I used to install escape towers on every manned craft... the one time I actually needed to use the escape tower, I somehow flipped the separations whilst building, therefore installing the escape tower upside-down. It did not work out well for the Kerbals. Now, I prefer not to install safety precautions as they generally end up making the crew less safe... Yeah. -
I remember it being "moon" officialy, however I can't help but pronounce it "m-uh-n". It sounds more Kerbaly.

Incredibly Stupid, Clumsy, and/or Painful Things You Have Done
zpox357 replied to bigyihsuan's topic in The Lounge
When I was slightly younger, I was meeting my friends at a pizza restaurant. Unaware of the risks, I plucked a helium balloon from the table behind us and decided that it would be funny to suck in the helium and give myself a squeaky voice. After sucking in almost all of the helium (in order to make sure the effect worked), I looked up, and went to speak. I noticed that all my friends were frowning at me. I said "what?", to my surprise in an entirely un-squeaky voice. One of them leaned forwards and said "Hey, are you ok? You had us worried there." I was quite confused, as you would imagine. Turns out that after looking up, I had stared at them, unaware, sort of "brain dead" for around 20 seconds, before coming round. It was a weird experience, 20 seconds passing in the blink of an eye, like time travel. Today, my friends find it hilariously funny that the only thing I have ever been knocked out by is a Childs party balloon... The morale of the story is quite evident. -
Is the KSP Community more friendly then the Minecraft community?
zpox357 replied to FiresThatBurn's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think that perhaps the absence of multiplayer might contribute to the (over all) friendly attitude of the KSP community.* There is no real reason to hate a particular type of person in KSP, because no one can, accidentally or purposefully, disrupt or destroy your private save file. The types of people who gain pleasure from doing this are not interested in the game, so members of the community are not constantly suspicious of new or younger players. This is why, in other communities, people who know less about the game are grouped as "noobs" or "trolls".
