I tried to play Neverwinter Nights 2 a couple weeks ago, but I wasn't an hour into the game when I found myself daydreaming about a new space station..... I got it bad....
-
Just a little while ago I was testing a new Mun lander and went into IVA view just in time to see this:

I look at this and I'm reminded of a very old Pink Floyd song: "Set the controls for the Heart of the Sun"

My newest: Terrapin Station -
Sometimes, Career Mode Missions are pretty good
Just Jim replied to ansaman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Agreed! I love bringing tourists on missions. They've funded many of my missions, and made me a lot of extra $$$. And I've been putting space stations in orbit around everything: Kerbin, the Mun and Minmus, Duna and Ike, and next will be Eve and Gilly, all with tourists in mind. And my newest station that I've been building the last couple days is totally geared for tourists. This station, named Terrapin Station, has 8 hitchhiker pods in an octagon star around the core. The reason I did it this way is not just to hold a lot of tourists, but also to separate everyone with different destinations. For example: tourists going to the Mun in one pod, Duna and Ike in another, those returning from Minmus in a third, etc... Having 4 or 5 big tourist contracts going at once is a riot, but can also get really complicated, and I'm hoping this will help me keep everyone sorted out. I'm really hoping the developers expand and add more tourist contracts... stuff like maybe "Send a 14 day vacation on an existing space station".... -
Do you have a screenshot that makes you laugh every time?

First thing today I tested my raptor shuttle some more, and she can make it to Minmus Station and back to my station in low Kerbin orbit no problem. So I retired my old shuttle The only issue, one I've been dancing around for some time now, is I still really could use a new space station between Kerbin and the Mun. Something much larger, to act as sort of a Central Space Station Tourist Center. I wanted something big, with much more fuel and personal capacity than my other space stations. But I also wanted something beautiful... elegant.... and definitely different if possible. And the part count had to be under 250. So building on the skycrane concept I used to launch my smaller stations, I just kept building bigger and bigger..... and ended up with a masterpiece!!! I am so proud of this. It took all day to launch and assemble, and I was terrified the whole time. There are no screenshots of the launches... I was in map, orbit view... whatever it's called, nursing the throttles under 100 m/s and praying they wouldn't spin out. It wasn't fun, and I really didn't have time to screw around trying to set up a nice screenshot. Then when it was finished I had to think of a name... and it wasn't long before I realized the perfect name, and perfect dedication, for my beautiful vacation resort in the sky... Terrapin Station She can house 40, and her liquid fuel capacity is over 22,000 units, more than all my other stations combined! And there are a couple new features, like the extended docking "pylons". Those already proved very nice! Only thing left really is tomorrow I'll bring in my big ore ship and top off her fuel tanks.

Just hit 90% Rep!!! That last point took forever! -
It took all day, and I'm exhausted, but I decided this morning I wanted a bigger space station.... hehehe It's late... I'll take more screenshots tomorrow.

Awesome! Congrats!

Max claw tensile force

I can tell ya this, I tested a new rescue ship out last night, and when I saw I had to claw a big Mk-III 4-seat cockpit, I was a little worried about it. But once I grabbed it, I could spin the ship and cockpit around like a top without it budging. It apparently has a very tight grip. -
It's a bird... Its a plane... it's... it's... wait... it's a rescue ship???

Chapter 7: Jeb to the rescue It must have been a horrible explosion... Jeb wasn't three feet in the door of Mission Control when he was told there were 4 Kerbals strewn about in orbit in different parts of the wreck that needed to be rescued. But the good news was the engineers had a new, experimental rescue vehicle for him.... The Rescue Raptor: Not sure what to expect, Jeb had all sorts of fun, and within a few hours had rescued all four stranded Kerbals and returned them to Cristoforetti Station to await the next shuttle back to the surface. -
Hmmmm.. I have about 100 game days to kill in my career game before any good windows to other planets open up. Thought maybe I'd have some fun with tourists. But when I checked in with mission control, I found all 4 of my open mission offers are rescues around Kerbin! 4 out of 4 contracts, all stuck in orbit... this is too good to turn down. But I think I need a better rescue ship... hehehe

10/10 very nice!!! This is my self-refueling explorer ship landed on Ike

I have a bunch of nice ones, but these 2 are hands-down my best screenshots so far:

Oh wow.... how many are there? Or do they spawn randomly?

I've only been here about a week and I've already picked up 37 points... I feel filthy... lol... Not sure why I got them so fast, but I guess these helped: Cristoferotti-B Station Duna Colony S.H.O.G. Advanced Science Lander -
Getting bulky crafts into orbit
Just Jim replied to lugge's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Not sure if this is what you meant, but this is the skycrane I use to haul big space stations and colony bases into orbit. My two biggest issues are speed and overheating. The only way to get this into orbit is to stay under 300 m/s and pointed almost straight up until about 25,000 meters. 30,000 is better. If you go too fast, or attempt a gravity turn too low it will immediately tumble and explode (pretty impressive explosions, I might add.... lol) Second issue is after 1.0.4 came out the bottom stages wanted to overheat and explode, even at 1/2 throttle. Adding radiators helped, but I can tell they're still right on the verge of blowing when I stage them. Lastly, this skycrane will only get a station or base into low Kerbin orbit, no further. Continuing onto the Mun or wherever will require refueling first. -

Chapter 6: The Sentinel While Val's waiting for a good window to set up a maneuver home, things back at Kerbin have been busy. After testing a couple designs, we've launched out first Sentinel IR telescope: The Engineers were a little concerned parts might come flying off during the launch, but by keeping the speed under 300m'/s until she was out of the soup, everything survived. She is now on course for her permanent assignment in orbit of the Sun. In the meantime, the Langertrix Shuttle moved in to rescue the stranded capsule crew. The capsule had no liquid fuel, but did have a bit of RCS fuel left, so by carefully maneuvering the Langertrix over her, Jeb was able to use one last RCS thrust to attach the claw to the shuttle and transfer the crew safely, then return to Cristoferotti Station. And at the KSC, a VIP lander (complete with 4 VIP tourists) was dispatched to the station to take them back to Kerbin After reviewing the data, our specialists tell us it was a near miracle Jeb and the crew were able to return with the asteroid. The capsule was terribly under powered and under fueled, and only Jeb's decision to not try and maneuver straight to Kerbin, but instead delicately tweak their orbit, wait a year and let themselves fall back into Kerbin's SOI naturally, gave them enough fuel to slow down into any sort of Kerbin orbit. But all is well, Jeb, Bill, & Bob are back after a year.... time to re-group and plan our next move... -
I just signed up a couple days ago, and this will be my first entry... and I couldn't be prouder... hehehe Today (and yesterday) I launched my first Sentinel IR Telescope, and to keep in the spirit of things, I attached it to a class-A asteroid: She's got 4 ion engines, which I was a little concerned might not be able to push a 3 ton asteroid into a solar orbit, but they did. Now I just have to wait about 200 days to maneuver her into a permanent solar orbit, and she'll be online. Then I sent a shuttle to rescue the crew stranded in the capsule... details in my mission report.

Yes! I love watching her on the ISS, and she was returning to Earth right about the same time I launched the station, so I couldn't think of a better person to name it after. -

Ahhahahahaha Yup! that one is my all time favorite, other than the first Godzilla. I love old Sci-Fi... many of the old classics are so Kerbal in so many ways.... - - - Updated - - - Oh real quick... I forgot to mention in my original post. I'm not using any mods other than chatteterererer... lol... and Asteroid day. No MechJeb or Engineer or any of that. I find them way more confusing to use than just doing the math in my head and hoping nothing explodes
