For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Nightside replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I don’t believe the EM field story, it sounds too much like a problem for a Star Trek engine room (hint: did you try to reverse the polarity?) To me it is a way of avoiding responsibility for a crash. The driver may be avoiding responsibility for fouling the tracks with an immobile car, the railroad company may be avoiding responsibility for a faulty signal. anyway, I haven’t stalled a moving car but I have stalled out plenty when starting from a stop. Moral of the story: Don’t stop your car on the tracks. -
That looks great. You should be able to use Kopernicus.

Please clarify do you mean: - 97 tons to the thousandths place or 97 thousand tons? Remember that in some places “,” is used as a decimal.

Welcome to the forums @NightmanX B9 is a wonderful mod, but it’s original author has moved on from the KSP scene to other things. Fortunately, it is still being maintained here: If you want any more options for generating lots of EC/s check out Near Future Electrics and Far Future Technology both by Nertea.

There is an interstage adapter that would work better than the IPA, you can disable the top decoupler.

Is it possible to get a political map to show up as an overlay in game? -
Hey, Boring Company’s not dead yet! Anyone want to move to Vegas?

I haven’t seen this mod before, which surprised me after seeing the date. Could this be the longest running mod for KSP?

What is the potential p2p range of Spaceship 2 as is? Unless your route is Mojave Spaceport to New Mexico Spaceport, where will it make sonic booms without bothering people and ending up like the concord?- 642 replies

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Nightside replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
In the 1st season of WESTWORLD, it turns out that everything has been happening on an island (shades of LOST), but most of the scenery in the show focuses on the arid terrain in the vicinity of the huge Colorado River around Moab, Utah. How could an island with the arid climate shown support a river the size of the Colorado? The real Colorado drains about 1/3 of the continental US. So, I have to ask - What is the biggest river on an island? (Google will only tell me about the biggest island in a river...) -
I never knew about that feature. any idea why it was pulled?

Welcome to the forums. Are you going into the settings from the Main Menu? -
I kinda want to be Boris “The Dunatian” Badenov now, @The Dunatian, would that be too confusing?

Your like limit increases proportionately with your velocity.

They will be ready to take over anywhere with a bathroom!

I wonder if SpaceX would sell parts or software to competitors- it is a typical practice for the rest of the industry.
-
Yeah, but the 2nd stage engine fairing doubles as the grid fin! Anyways I’m not convinced that Starship will wipe out the demand for midsize launchers- especially if the commercial satellite paradigm is shifting from big GEO sats to hordes of LEO small sats.

SMURFF an incredible mod. But it is just the 1st step, it solves the problem of pods, engine and tanks having way too much dry mass. But now your rockets are even more overpowered for the tiny (1/10th scale) Kerbin System. Step 2 is either Real Solar System (RSS) or 10x Rescale so your rockets have real dV requirements.

How big is optimal for a scifi starship?
Nightside replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Inertial dampeners are a real thing - also known as Tuned Mass Dampeners they are installed in tall buildings to prevent amplification of periodic seismic loads, and in plenty of other mechanical applications. -

I don’t understand why you are worried about people withstanding 1g - I withstand 1g all day long. -
And I’m off to KSP to build a turbo-paddlewheeler airplane.

Take a look at SMURFF + Sigma Dimensions + Rescale (10x)
