Actually a lot of ESA rockets (If not all) launch from Kourou in French Guiana, a French territory in South America, It's used as it's very close to the Equator, which is preferable for rocket launches as you are not forced to only launch spacecraft into orbits at specific inclinations but rather have access to equatorial orbits and presumably a wide range of other orbits aswell. TL-DR, They don't launch it from France, they launch it from S. America.

They are my BadS Marines, And they shall know no fear! Unless their ship explodes, then they get horrified. -The Emperor of the Snackperium of Kerb. Even though they're BadS and fearless I guess it kinda makes sense, as often in KSP (aswell as IRL Spaceflight) part of your spacecraft exploding means there's a good chance that the rest of the spacecraft will quickly do the same, including the part you and your crewmates are sitting in.... and that's likely enough to scare even a BadS.

How to keep Aircraft stable on landing?
Delfinus replied to Delfinus's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Jeb is back! Thanks guys! From both me and Sgt. Jeb .N. Kerman, the flight plan basically went like this. 1: Set Shuttle on Suborbital Trajectory hitting the landing zone. 2: Re-Enter, keeping my nose up and doing hard turns to lose speed. 3: Perform glide down to about 1 Kilometer up at about 300 m/s, pulling up hard at the end. 4; Moar maneuvering to lose speed, going only fast enough to generate enough lift to stay air-borne, If I remember correctly I also gave the engines a quick burst at this stage too, to help stay airborne. 5: Gently touchdown, using torque to stay stable and only using my parachute to brake as the actual airbrakes and landing gear like to crash the thing. 6: Engaged Brakes once I was going relatively slow, bringing the bird to a halt, Jeb crawls out and jumps in joy for a successful mission. Oh, and for anybody curious, the Shuttle's mission was to rendezvous with a Mk-2 inline cockpit that was up there as part of a rescue and retrieve mission, after a previous mission recovered the Kerbal onboard, the plan was to have Bill use KIS/KAS and attach parts to make it into a working spacecraft before then flying it down, a mission which was successful. We also refueled my first ever working SSTO Spaceplane, Atlas I, during our flight, just to ensure it had enough fuel to land (although there's a decent chance it could've gotten down without a refueling), all missions complete! Woho! Once again, thanks for the help guys and gals, it was useful in returning the shuttle and will likely be very useful in my future Aeroplane/Spaceplane related adventures. -

How to keep Aircraft stable on landing?
Delfinus replied to Delfinus's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's Already pretty short, and yeah, I think I'll try putting structural pylons on the wings and putting the landing gear on those (the structural pylons are so the landing gear can still reach the ground). Thanks. I'm pretty sure they point forward, but I'll double check just to be sure. As said before, I'll attempt to move the wheels out to the wings with the help of structural pylons. What I assume you are saying is to basically have the wings pointed slightly upwards when on the runway, I was already aware of this and have the rear wheels placed slightly higher up then the front one so that the entire plane is slightly tilted up when on the runway, if it's something else that's a bit more complicated, then some example pics might help. Anyway, thanks for the checklist. Alright, I'll start placing the front landing gear right in front of the COM (Moving the rear ones forward would mean I'd bash my engine on takeoff). Actually, I can change my design due to having KIS/KAS Installed, which incase you don't know what they are ( although you likely already do due to their popularity) are mods that allow your Kerbals to hold and use equipment and build and move things mid-flight, so I may just send up a mission with a Engineer to fix the landing gear. And coming in too fast might be my main problem, as this craft has successfully landed before, but often at a somewhat slower speed, as I've been coming in rather fast, which makes no surprise considering it's Jeb at the controls, and I have been landing in a relatively flat area, my designated landing area for most of my Spacecraft is the general area of the southern coast of the two large inland lakes/seas. with one of them being landlocked, it's mostly flat grassland, although there are some rolling hills and a few craters. Thanks for the advice. I'll start attempting landing with the front wheel brake off, thanks, that could wind up being really hepful, thanks mate. And the shuttle does have a parachute to use for braking, just like the real one, although on successful landings I often stop before I can trigger it, but if a regular landing fails I might resort to a Parachute landing. Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late reply, was busy on other forum threads while I waited for people to reply to this one, I'll attempt to post a picture of the Spacecraft in question shortly. -
SPACE STATIONS! Post your pictures here
Delfinus replied to tsunam1's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Here's my Spaaace Station (I am incapable of spelling Spaaaace with just one A) the KIOS, Or Kerbin International Orbital Station, it has 3 mission goals, to A: Be totally Awesome, B: Repair & Resupply Vessels departing LKO, And C: To Repair and analyze the Science from ships returning to LKO. Only one module still needs to be attached, the Life Support Module containing Supplies, a Greenhouse and possibly a Hitchhiker Crew Module, the station was formerly considered complete but I recently downloaded USI Life Support, therefore requiring that I add some Life Support so the crew doesn't go on strike. But here it is, the pride of KIAA (Kerbal International Aerospace Administration) the KIOS. With Bercine Kerman, the Station's Engineer floating next to it while the other two crew of the KIOS, Barger, the Station's Scientist, and Maglyn, the Station's Pilot/Commander, remain inside. Mod's used, KIS/KAS, you can also see Texture Replacer, GregroxMun's colored Suits, EVE, Distant Object Enhancement, and Scatterer in this screenshot, although I uninstalled Scatterer shortly after taking this picture due to it making my game crash RIP Super Awesome Atmospheric Visuals, 2015-2015. I also have one of the Andromeda Galaxy Skybox's (I forgot which one) but due to Kerbin outshining the stars thanks to Distant Object Enhancement it isn't visible. It was constructed like this, first the core station was launched into LKO on a rocket, then the Control & Docking Module with the RCS And Docking Ports was launched on it's own rocket, then I attempted to bring up one of the Solar Panel arrays on it's own rocket but wound up crashing into Kerbin, then I invented a Spaaaaace Shuttle, and then delivered one of the Solar Panel arrays in one piece via Spaaaace Shuttle, and then installed KIS/KAS and assembled the second solar panel array aswell as a bunch of other stuff on the station with parts brought up on a shuttle mission, and that's pretty much when the KIOS reached it's current status. -
Hello, just wondering, how do I keep aircraft from tipping over and clipping their wings off before crashing completely when landing & taking off? It's been an issue that's been bugging me a lot lately, and has had Jeb stuck in orbit in a Space Shuttle for two or three irl days now as every attempt at landing has had this result so I've been forced to hit F9 every time, any tips? I've heard the suggestion to have your wheels far apart but alot of planes aren't wide enough.

Hullo KSP Forums, I've been playing Kerbal since the start of October (and was wanting it for months before after becoming aware of the game by somehow wandering across Scott Manley's vid's on Youtube but lacked a PC that could run it) but only now have joined the forums even though I've been reading them for a long time. I've been having a lot of fun playing KSP, and have probably pressed F5 and F9 so many times due to getting into KSP that I'm surprised they're still in one piece Here's my Space Station, the KIOS (Kerbin International Orbital Station) It's main purpose is to A: Be awesome, B: Repair and Resupply ships departing LKO, and C: Repair and analyze the Science from ships returning to LKO. Bercine Kerman, the Station's Engineer, is also in the picture, while Barger and Maglyn Kerman, the Station's Scientist and Pilot/Commander, remain inside. The station is fully finished for now, although I may decide to add a Hitchhiker Module aswell as a Life Support Module if I decide to get USI Life Support, I also intend to dock a Spacecraft of some kind to serve as a Escape Vehicle, It did have one at one time but it was used to fulfill a rescue contract. KIAA (The Kerbal International Aerospace Administration) has also successfully landed Kerbbed missions on Mun and Minmus and put a Kerbbed Semi-Permanent base on the latter, I've also landed a unkerbbed rover on Duna (which has since crashed) and in a past save which I think I deleted accidentally I landed a unkerbbed lander without a rover or any way to move, I also currently have a lander inbound for Ike. Our other acomplishments are: Making a SSTO Spaceplane after many failed attempts (although one proved to be a good atmospheric Jet), making a rocket with over 9km/s of Delta-V which I learned the hard way was massive overkill for performing a Kerbbed Mun Mission , Making a working and fully reusable Spaaaaace Shuttle (although it involved putting on a lot of those liquid fuelled RCS thrusters to control Pitch), Discovering Duna is green with our first Kerbbed Mission there, (Either that or somebody forgot to tell Jeb it was just a in-atmosphere test of the lander on Kerbin) performing a EVA from the surface of Minmus, down to LKO to rendezvous with the KIOS, dumping off all the Science there to be processed, and then going helmet first down to the surface of Kerbin, and then performing a Kerouz mission to pick up the science, if I remember correctly the Kerbal who did this BadS feat which put Jeb (who is now looking for revenge) to shame was Gregbald Kerman, the reason I did this was to fulfill a contract to rescue him from Minmus Orbit, so rescue contract, complete! (I later went into the files and set BadS to true for Gregbald, as it's previous reading of false surely couldn't be true when he had just EVA'd across tens of thousands of Kilometers) Three Questions though: When I installed RPM it seems to have broken Porkjet's habitat pack, or atleast the Soyuz Capsule, which I was using for my Kerouz Spacecraft and would really like to have working, is there a patch or some edit I can make in the files to correct it? Also what's the best Delta-V to have for landing on Kerbin's Moons? as the 8 KM/S I originally heard was the best seems to be massive overkill. Finally what's a good way to ensure massive rockets stay on course and in one piece? As even with fins and strut spam they still seem to flip out and turn into ICBM's, and with EVE the KSC is not that far away from a massive city which some of my larger out of control rockets like to go to, and raining rocket debris down on Civilians is something that I'd like to avoid. I'll add more pictures of my Contributions to Kessler Syndrome... Er, I mean, uh, Adventures across Spaaaace later, such as my Spaaaace Shuttle, Mun/Minmus Lander, and Minmus Base, but for now, Hullo KSP Kerbmunity! -Dolphin.
