Ultimate Steve replied to Heirloom's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Any chance we can get Scott textures for all of the stock parts? That would be glorious. -

What did you do on your first KSP Flight?
Ultimate Steve replied to blimpsnack's topic in KSP1 Discussion
April 2013. 0.19. Sandbox, as that was the only mode back then. Mk1 pod, Mk16 parachute, TR-18A Stack Decoupler, and an RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster. Made it up to a decent altitude. My second mission was a rover made of a mk1 pod, six large girders, and two gigantors. Guess what happened to the gigantors when I got up to speed. -

I stayed up to watch it, but got to caught up in video editing and missed it. -

It really doesn't matter as long as the ship has sufficient TWR to do the departure burn in one orbit without hitting the atmosphere, or as long as you can do multiple kick burns. However, above 120km it's good because you get more time warp, and above 250km is good because it unloads the surface is unloaded and you get less lag. But if you want the lowest possible orbit with a TWR of 1, you don't need to go super high. 80-90km should be good for that, although you won't be able to time warp much.

"Peregrine Falcon" (or just one of those) for the whole thing, as the Peregrine Falcon is the fastest bird on the Earth. Right before the Eve capture burn you will probably be going the fastest you've ever gone (besides solar relative velocity), at around 4-4.5km/s, unless you've done something crazy. For the lander, I'd suggest a name that emphasizes fire, as Eve tends to heat stuff up a lot and is hot on the surface. Maybe Dragon, or Dragonborn. Fire Knight, Descender, Ember, Ignis, Candle... If you send a rover, you should call it WALL-E, you know, because Eve. Phoenix would be good for an ascent vehicle, because of the whole "rising from the ashes" thing.

Probably using martian water. If you're going to carry the water all the way to Mars, it would probably be more practical to just bring more Methalox (besides the whole cryo storage thing). -
Why does Voskhod programme was cancelled so soon?
Ultimate Steve replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Originally, there were supposed to be four more Voskhod flights, but they were cancelled for the reasons above. From Wikipedia: Voskhod 3 – 19-day two-man mission to study long-term weightlessness with artificial gravity, medical, military and other experiments [1] Voskhod 4 – 20-day single-man mission to study long-term weightlessness with artificial gravity, medical, military, and other experiments [2] Voskhod 5 – 10-day two-woman mission with medical and other experiments and first female EVA-spacewalk [3] Voskhod 6 – 15-day two-man mission with military and other experiments and multiple spacewalks to test new EVA jet belt [4] -

The procedural probe cores (with nodes on both the top and bottom) can only get so small. The smallest, something about Sputnik sized, has no top connection node, only the bottom. The Explorer satellite probe core has this problem as well, in addition to being long and skinny.

Reusable rockets
Ultimate Steve replied to JERONIMO's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It will take practice. Returning boosters from orbit is a matter of periapsis location and altitude, along with velocity at periapsis, plus a little bit of crossrange capability. Landing boosters in an RTLS situation like SpaceX does, aim for 3/4 the way to KSC, ish, as Kerbin rotates, and steer the rocket to use it like a wing to further refine your approach. Fire engines when ready. Note, this will require a mod, as if you focus on the first stage, the second stage will be destroyed, and vice versa. FMRS I think does this. -
Wasn't that what they did with Green Iron Crown back in the day? And on my side, it's not so much about the number, it's about knowing that someone enjoyed what I said. That's a really good feeling to have.

Today was citywide garage sale day, and I bought five things, a 25c Xylophone, a free mini etch-a-sketch keychain, a 25c board game, a $5 perplexus... ...and a $5 telescope which is probably in the same general power range as my current telescope. It's really dirty, but besides that, it is in working condition. Even if it is less powerful than my current telescope, it looks 5x cooler than my current one, comes with a stand, and really, you can't get any sort of telescope for $5. So that's probably the best thing I've ever found on any annual garage sale day.
