To me, if an intake is positioned so it's blocked by other intakes, other parts, inside other parts or on backwards then that is an airhogging intake, it's just there to give more intake air but wouldn't work in real life. Plenty of aircraft have big intakes to provide enough air for high altitude work so having several intakes per engine isn't a problem, as long as it looks right, having intakes all the way along your wings would normally prevent the wing from working so again would be air hogging (or wing hogging? and what about wings inside wings?) in my opinion
