Watched 2001: A space odyssey for the first time
sal_vager replied to xclusiv8's topic in The Lounge
Read the book, I cannot stress this enough: Read the book The effects in the movie are old for sure, but you can\'t really understand what\'s up with the ending unless you see what it was based on. -
Massive ships vs small, really simple ones
sal_vager replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I wish I knew Phoenix, I really do, most of my craft are also on the edge of what\'s possible with no margins for sloppy piloting, NovaSilisko is handing the new stock parts and the balancing. -

That\'s exactly it Tim_Barrett, the so-called asparagus design (awful name, I call it daisy chaining) that even SpaceX is testing out in their new launcher (or was it Ariane?) -

No need to apologize it\'s fine. It\'s a game we can wait, go have some fun -
[0.15, PARTS] Mk2 Stock Parts (Alpha 0.2 "Released")

So how\'s the pack coming on Thobewill? It looks like the 0.2 is seriously out of date, none of the new descriptions are in there. -
Massive ships vs small, really simple ones
sal_vager replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My preference is for parallel stages, so all engines are firing, I don\'t like dead engines, I know I\'ll be in trouble when proper drag is introduced (some day) -
Well I can only speak of my own planes (I didn\'t get a chance to download yours) but the yaw problem is due to the airflow over the rudder trying to push you straight again when you ease off, you can alleviate that somewhat by holding some rudder until the yellow marker on the navball catches up to you. I found with some of my planes, that if there is too much weight at the rear, especially when you have used the front fuel tanks, the plane will try to fly back to front, it\'ll start tumbling and cannot be stopped if things are really bad, you can get around this by having wings further rearwards and by turning off the front tanks fuel flow, keeping weight at the front of the plane.

Massive ships vs small, really simple ones
sal_vager replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I hope the balancing act won\'t ruin small efficient ships, for some of us that\'s all we can fly and still have a decent frame rate, and this is with a half decent PC, there are a lot of overpowered parts out there, but the current stock rocket parts work nicely in my opinion. Big ship builders can still make behemoths if they want, I remember reading here long ago that KSP was made with small ships in mind from day one, massive launchtower eclipsing superships are okay if you like that kind of thing, but they aren\'t for me. -
The spike engine is actually a rocket, and it\'ll stop working with jet fuel when the current parts are balanced, not sure when that\'ll be though, so if you go for that engine it\'ll need a full rebuild to future proof it. But if you want to get up into space you\'ll need it

ALT TAB has a pretty high chance of crashing KSP
sal_vager replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
yeah I know what you mean, I have the same issue, that\'s why I suggested editing your settings.cfg You can find it in your KSP folder. Here are the lines that you\'ll need: SCREEN_RESOLUTION_WIDTH = 1280 SCREEN_RESOLUTION_HEIGHT = 960 You can set these to values not shown in the in-game presets, and it\'ll work, backup your settings.cfg first if you want, but you can restore it just by deleting the file as well. -
ALT TAB has a pretty high chance of crashing KSP
sal_vager replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
cardgame\'s right, most Windows games don\'t like to be alt-tabbed when they are full-screen, if you find you need to alt-tab a lot you could run KSP in a window that fits your screen snugly, if you need an odd resolution, edit the settings.cfg, KSP can handle just about anything above 1024x768 -
Post EVERYTHING you know about the Mun Arch.
sal_vager replied to VincentMcConnell's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Unity3D, on which KSP is based, cannot (or couldn’t) handle concave collision meshes, as it checks for intersections between vertices, for example if you have a bowl shaped collision mesh, anything entering the bowl will intersect the vertices that make up the bowls rim. With multiple collision meshes you can avoid concave sections, and check for intersections with each mesh in turn, we aren\'t seeing any significant slowdown when near these arches, so it\'s safe to assume that the code handling this is pretty fast. -
I just realized we won't be able to go at the speed of light.

hunter558, Alcubierre\'s paper can be downloaded for free from the Cornell University Library. It\'s only 10 pages it seems. -
Hi Cyclone159 and welcome to the community. I remember landing with wings instead of legs, it wasn\'t that hard I\'m glad you\'re machine can handle KSP, one of the major support problems at the moment is out of memory errors, mainly from people with too many mods installed though. Good luck landing on the Mun and Minmus, watch out for the extra low gravity of the new moon

Hi TheDarthMoogle and welcome to the community. Don\'t forget to check out the forum rules while you\'re here, also I see by your avatar that The KSP Community My Little Pony Megathread may interest you, all pony related posts live there. Have fun flying

Okay guys, intelligent discussion is what we are all looking for here, the moment this thread degenerates they’ll be a squad of Mods in here looking to close the doors. Also, Shenzhou 7 passed near the ISS.

You can see from HarvesteR\'s post here that all their deadlines will be kept internal from now on, so it\'s not likely that the 4 week cycle will be kept, basically it\'ll be ready when the Development team are happy with it.

As a mostly stock pilot, the only mod I can\'t go without is Tosh\'s cart, really everything else you might want to do in KSP can be done with the stock parts, and now rovers can sort of be done, but the cart is just so much better.
-
Goosey145, there are known issues with the patcher and admin rights if you are running KSP from any Windows owned folder, what\'s likely happened to you is the patcher received permission on the first update, but is being denied permission on the second, so try unzipping it afresh to a folder you made yourself, even one on a second hard drive, and try patching again. It should work then, but it\'s also known not to start up immediately after patching, but it\'s still worked fine.

I\'ll lt you choose a name sjwt, seeing as this is your first time, have fun

Mun rocket with 3 stages
sal_vager replied to Gunhed's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hi Gunhed, welcome to the community. While I can\'t help much with the swinging without testing your craft myself, I can see a few things you really should change. First off, you only need 1 ASAS, any more than that is redundant, also you have fitted your SAS units to your engines, they will not be able to provide thrust with the SAS units in the way, so swap them around with the decouplers below them. You may need more struts but really apart from those two things, your rocket looks okay to me. Hope this helps
