First Kerbonaut (finally) returned from Duna
hebdomad replied to colonel0sanders's topic in KSP1 Discussion
A truly Kerbal way to get to and from Duna! I've still got the original three still stuck on the surface with maybe enough fuel to get to orbit. That rocket had multiple parts fail and its amazing I landed on target in the first place. I'll have to send a Mech-jeb rocket to save them when I get back home. (I'm currently 700km away) -
[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.18 Discussion thread
hebdomad replied to kacperrutka26's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Core features have to be done by the developer. We can not rely of people looking for mods to get the most out of KSP. This is why space planes where added. We DO need docking as a feature. I've seen the 'docking mods' and you can not do the things as a fully featured docking feature would bring. You can not build space stations bit by bit. We don't have seamless crew transfers. Heck you can't even leave two docked ships together in orbit without them drifting apart. ... in short, we need docking. These ARE features and game mechanics that can not be easily implemented. ... *le sigh* Honestly this thread should be locked until Squad announce what they are working on for .18 , until then I'll get back to landing stuff on Duna and beyond. -
How much testing do you do on interplanetary/munar craft?
hebdomad replied to hubbazoot's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I build my rocket into modules and test each one of them. It often ends in just adding 'MooAarR Boosters' however... The mission module. Whether this be a lander or orbiter I make sure everything works before building the next stage. It also does the last 10% of getting into orbit and all the thrusting it needs to get from Kerbin orbit to where it's going and back home again. The orbital booster This booster gets me 90% into orbit. The launch booster This gets me out of the atmosphere. I'm hoping later versions of KSP allow me to make and pick launch vehicles to put my missions into orbit. -
The music you should play when you launch a rocket into space
hebdomad replied to Awesomeslayerg's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Ah... memories of the original Homeworld come flooding back. Best space opera ever. This is what I listen too... Building and rolling out to the launch pad. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9vpMy14XiBw?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And victory Music.... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/COYRxf13tIg?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> -
Make a multi stage rocket with more than three tanks per engine. Use the 'ASAS' part. Look up some basics of how an orbit works. 1) Yes, it should come when docking comes... don't ask when docking will come. Nobody knows. 2) Highly doubt it. It's not within the scope of this game. 3) Again I don't think It's within the scope of this game, BUT this might happen far off in the future. 4) Maybe. We will have to see what the campaign mode offers first.

I miss the days when landing on the Mun was a challenge. Heart pounding in my chest. Sitting on the edge of my seat, praying I don't become another crater. Now use that same rocket to get to Minmus! ... or make a bigger rocket and take three Kerbals there!

YAY more backers. I can see much of it is copy paste, but it's plenty of info and up to date. Spread they word, but try not to be too spamy.

Why is this game so hard and so addictive.
hebdomad replied to VengfeulVermin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Don't be sad. He gave you money and can't put the game down. It's like a love/hate relationship. -
I can't wait to get my hands on this game. I can't wait to see if they show any more stretch goals. I doubt they will deliver in 2013, but it would be crazy if they did.
-
I think we do need manned missions beyond low earth orbit. We don't have to land on any planets yet, but we do need to push human existence beyond just one rock.
-
Well OK, they are not starting from scratch. But in game development terms, they are a long way off (a good year or so) to having anything mildly playable.
-
Ok, so hopefully I'm not breaking any rules by posting this, but if you want a RTS game about destroying planets... this one might be for you. Yes it's another kick-starter game... and they have done zero work on the game. They'll only make it if they have the money to do so. They do however have the mad skills to do so. http://planetaryannihilation.com/ I'm praying to the gaming gods that this game gets made to it's full potential... even if it takes the standard three to four years...

I've been working on my VTOL for ages... balancing the fuel and keeping it flyable is a real pain. ><

I think a lot of people will be launching one way rockets. I think I'll try a flyby then a Lander mission.

Hey, I've played my fair share of halo games. It was one of my few joys as a teenager, stinking up a room and lugging heavy TVs and network cables around was what I did for fun... Bungie are a fine studio. I can't wait to see what they do next.
-
Bungie, developer of a game called 'Halo' mentioned KSP in their blog. I heard bungies game did quite well. Had a few sequels too. Check it out here. http://www.bungie.net/News/Blog.aspx?mode=news#cid32163 Any publicity is good publicity right? If Bungie brought you here, welcome! And good luck getting into orbit.

Man, I'm freaking out about getting to new planets (when they come) in KSP... Heck how the hell am I supposed to get back?!? Yet alone land something and return it... I'm still amazed they landed 900kg of raw awesome on Mars.
-
Landed like a boss... Picture is here folks.

Land nose first into the ground WITHOUT exploding. Attached is the 'Facepunch'. It was developed for Search and Rescue operations but development ended quickly once it was found it was near impossible to take off once the pilot had landed the craft on it's nose. To qualify you must show all take offs and landings. You must only use stock parts. You must take off horizontally. You must land vertically onto the nose of the aircraft. Beginers Your challenge is to land the 'Facepunch' on it's nose. Download the craft file and put your pilot skills to the test. Regular Build your own aircraft and land on it's nose without exploding. Advanced Build your own aircraft and land on it's nose without exploding... ...but take off again and land horizontally again on the KSC runway. Honour roll Sean Mirrsen (almost)Advanced sebzim4500 Beginer

Your call. I would be happy to help administrate a new thread... if that's at all possible.

Kerbin K STAR Challenge. (SAR Mission)
hebdomad replied to hebdomad's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
It is EXACTLY what your thinking. What is more Kerbal than Thunderbirds?
