  1. Recently, I was trying to do another mostly RCS build, and one thing I am curious about is the angle of the RCS thrusters. Specifically, perfect perpendicular vs 45 degree offset. Aside from the typical "4 thrusters pointing outward along the 45 degrees line", I am also experimenting with a 45-degree rotated 4-RCS block. So I am not certain: 1) If the RCS block is rotated by 45 degree such that it forms an X, then it will be weaker in thrust. Unknowne effect on RCS DeltaV but I suspect it will be worse. 2) If the RCS block is not rotated, but at 45 degree X, it will be not at precise in compared to perpendicular layout. Could someone confirm my observation? If so, is it because more RCS nozzle need to be used? EDIT: So other people can see how bad cosine loss is: Say 0 is the direction you want, and 90 is the perpendicular cos 0 deg gives 100% thrust cos 90 deg gives 0 percent thrust cos 45 deg (4 way symtery) gives 70% each cos 60 deg (6 way symmtery, furthest away from the near 90 degree) gives 50%. Note that due to how symetry works, you will typically have 1 right on the 90 degree cos 30 deg (6 way symmtery, closest from the near 90 degree) gives 86.6%. cos 22.5 deg (8 way symmetry further rotate offset, closest to 90 degree) gives 92%
  2. However, why is Homogenous bad? No longer do I expect someone to figure out how to mod a game.
  3. Quick update: Thanks to the DLC, I cannot see myself putting up a shuttle I was working on and created the poster for to be put up. So you will have to wait until the DLC come out for that. Thanks to the hostility toward DLC, I will start to instead go with the approach of not caring if the parts are vanilla or not, or rather it just need one DLC, seeing people will definitely go vanilla crazy instead. Going forward, I will updates some of the crafts such that the current-vanilla may no longer be one, and will have less duplicates. Specifically, the plan will be follow: Herguer YiX (Altair vertical cab clone)--> Lockheed Martin 2 stage lander. It's unlikely BG will be needed, but MH requirement will stay Herguer ErX (altair horizontal cab clone) will have ATHELETE system (subject to compactness). If so, BG required. Shengdian (Tiangong 3 core module) will have manipulator arms added, so it will require BG Munfeelsor (Chang'e 4 clone) will attempt to move toward an elevator. If so, BG will be needed The Orbiter derived station Vanilla edition will stay as is. However, it will not be updated.
  4. You mean Microsoft? "Sorry, your software is too old, even though your mission critical stuff that literally means life-and-death of patiences depends on the older OS with no viable replacement. Hope no ransomware attack yoru computer"
  5. Don't worry: you guys got a lot of fast food restaurants that we don't have up here. And you ain't missing much. Timmies stuff managed to be worse than McD. Not sure how it compare to Dunkin (which we don't have much) for the soup and donuts.
  6. Yes, I am refering to the Canadarm (I will refer to that name always since its our nation pride) But I agree -- let's see how the robotic parts actually work and look. In terms of LV-3 (or rather, horizontal Altair), I am actually refering the the ATHLETE system. One of the design variant involves the Altair crew module pull the double duty of pressurized rover for shuttling between the lander and the lunar base, while the cargo variant of course just use the ATHLETE to remove the cargo (which I assume your rocket thrusters replicates). As you can guess, that is my plan going forward... if the DLC is actually that powerful (I did try to make a prototype using the landing legs. Of course, in your case, it involves another revision of your system.
  7. Yeah. Was gonna release my Orbiter... then that news. For me, one upside: I can focus on spacecrafts that have no robotics involved... IE, my Gemini clone.
  8. Maybe not. However, for those with existing Account, they can still edit it. And it's better than nothing.
  9. Not necessary depend on execution. Payday 2's model is perfect example: You can play the DLC missions, provide someone host it. And some achievement can only be done with DLC (due to mask) And some of the weapons and perk deck provided the advantages such that you eventually shelled out of DLC . Granted, even when new, each DLC is only $5... except if have a lot of DLC.
  10. This. And as someone relatively new (that is, after the free-DLC period), I sometimes feel the community that "unless you play a game with mods, you are a noob", and don't get us start on Steam. Instead of making the game fun for new comers, it feel daunting, unwelcoming Take challenges: how many stated "mods welcome but not DLC", when many of the steam users find getting DLC easier? Look at steam discussion. They cheered for DLC. In short, the community is actually past "going to be fragmented". We are fragmented. All we can do is that we will accept people may duplicate functions and challenges and community practice of what is created previously.
  11. Yeah, already planned for this. In fact I was originally trying a Landing gear ATHELETE system, but now it will not be needed. You know how there was no rover for Constellation Altair originally? Because it will be using ATHELETE.
  12. Who knows. Maybe I played enough games where Publishers actively shutdown or sabatoge Community efforts to restore the "vanilla" or "legacy" once the publishers/developers themselves do it, or feels it eats into their profit. And they do it even on the forums. And yes, it breaks the community in the worse way: the old guard leave, but new blood can come in and be brainwashed. Granted, KSP is a small indie game, not a multiplayer or MMO game, and T2 is not EA or Blizz.
  13. Not quite groundless if Take2/squad want to make it so they become more friendly to "haves" I mean we just have another change on the Terms of Conditions. Now in the past (and current), I know it's just not allowed to remake a running challenge if one exist, especially an identical one but have some slight change in conditions. However, if Take2 want to make it more Steam/DLC focus, they would also rein in community act of trying to exclude DLC buyers. I mean look at steam Discussion: So many people like DLC over mods, because they cannot make heads and tails of modding a game. Fairness is subjective Ultimately Squad/T2 is the Overlord. All that matter is to have a guideline on this forum whether such reposting is allowed. And I will be honest, at the grand scheme, if Squad either allowed or enforce such concept, it will greatly reflect the direction they want the community to be like on their official forum.
  14. Hmm, no response... does this actually means T2 is thinking to allow point 2? I will be honest, I know that in the old days, the answer for 1) is a big no, so we do not need to address point 2. However, if I want to sell something for extra money, but the community on my forum say no, I would definitely try to get them to agree with some lawyer speak and tell my mods not to interfere...
  15. Probably a Payday 2 DLC. When it's new, a single Perk Deck, a gun (and a few mask) can be yours for $5. It does give some bonus however.
  16. Now I feel Serene. Now THIS is a good company. More DLC please!
  17. Considering that T2/Squad really want to take many functions from mods into DLC: 1) Are we allow to repost challenges that allows mod but exclude DLC? 2) If a future T2 new agreement on this forum require "stock" includes DLC, would we be able to do so then?
  18. Currently, the system in the KSP wiki have the items of DLC straightly segeregated. However, many DLC based games, such as BF1, put them right behind the items, with a bracket indicating which DLC they are from. See https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Template:Weapons/BF1 as an example With the second DLC, I propose we do likewise with the KSP wiki. (Put it here as the wiki seems to be an official page, with the associated T2 agreement required)
  19. Something tell me you will have to update the LV-3 series when the DLC comes up. And the SVR-20. And all those props crafts.
  20. I would like to confirm whether the behavior is either a still existing bug or expected behavior, and not some operato (IE my) error: When a craft is reloaded with Mk3 engine plate in VAB, if items are placed on the black end using the mirror symmetry mode in the last save using either move tool or rotation tool will change it back to radial symmetry.
  21. Because we typically just call it "probe and drogue". Possibly due to how common it appear sticking out, from Soyuz to even Federation
  22. One of the mods I rely on is Trajetories. however, I found out that the icon for KSP-alarm had covered it. Is there a way to use them both?
  23. So i assume that is for pre-1.6, as after 1.6 you can spawn a kerbal into the External seat directly.
  24. Most of my naming are just Chinese translation, Transliteration, or phonic readjustment: Lehu = phonic readjustment of Lie'hu (猎户), or Orion Herguer = phonic readjustment of Hé gǔ èr (河鼓二), or Altair Ananas come from Apollo in Chinese is 阿波羅, and 波羅 in cantonese means Pineapple, which in many language is Ananas. Upriser, from Uprise, or Qiyi (起義), which have the same phoneic sound of "71" of Project 714, which was Chinese first attempt for manned space flight. incidentally, such reasoning (that it was a disguise to rebel against CCP) is actually a major reason it got canned. LyncBon = phoenic adjustment of Liánbāng, or "federation" "Fogin" is pretty much the worst offender. It's a the phonic of 火箭 (rocket) in Cantonese
