  1. The absolutely must to have mod for me is Kerbal Engineer Redux. It gives you (among other things) the values for TWR and dV for each stage. Without these building rockets is more or less guesswork
  2. There are also NPC pilots (which Jeb seems to be, as player pilots always have "Cmdr" in front of their name). But a certain amount of funding for the game allowed players to submit a name on their own for inclusion into the E: D NPC name database. I guess this is what happened here ... i.e. that one Backer who is also a KSP player paid enough to be allowed to submit an NPC name and then submitted "Jebediah Kerman" as NPC name. Addendum: But there is a real (i.e. implemented by the game devs) KSP easter egg in another game: X-Rebirth In a lonely corner of one space station you can find a Kerbal doll
  3. Similarly here ... I just bring the Apoapsis to below 200 km (via one or more rounds of Aerobraking + retrograde thrusts) and then do a shallow reentry at ~40-50 km Periapsis. No heatshield required (and I am even able to recover the last motor stage, by having it equipped with chutes and only separating it, when speed are below 260 m/s ). And that´s with Deadly Rentry active (which is said to tweak the 1.0.4. rentry values to make rentry harder than with stock 1.0.4.)
  4. Sure, Hawking Radiation is created when in vacuum a particle and antiparticle pair gets created and, instead of immediately colliding with each other and canceling themselves out (which normally happens) trhe antiparticle gets across the event horizon (and therefore is lost into the black hole). The remaining particle continues on its path and it appears as if the particle is emitted from the BH. IIRC it also causes the BH to lose mass (due to the antiparticle entering the BH) and may cause small BHs (with a large surface) to actually shrink over time. It, naturally, also means that no information is conveyed about the black hole ... as the particle isn´t excactly emitted by the black hole.
  5. The ring structure of Benzene was discovered by August Kekulé, after he dreamed of a snake biting into its own tail. So, if we include "crazy dreams" as a subset of "crazy ideas" the number is > 0
  6. Thad was my Amiga HDD from the beginning of the 90s on: SCSI controller and whopping 200 MB (but also had cost me around 1500-2000 DM) When I switched to my first PC a few years later I hadn´t even filled it to half
  7. May be the fact that the walls are heated up (from the heat during the weeks before) and now bombard you with infrared radiation (thereby heating your body up more than it would be possible through the air alone)
  8. Well, the warnings are per county/region. So I guess it is taken from popular forecast sites from each country, which allow an automated query of the county/region based warnings.
  9. Here (western germany) temperatures have cooled down due to cloud cover and rain since the night
  10. The big question is: Will or won´t they detect the secret .... moon base
  11. If you want to use it just remember that the middle marker (i.e. the hand pointing left to 9 o´clock) means 0 m/s vertical speed, the 10:30 positions are +10 m/s vertical speed and the 7:30 position are -10 m/s. This gives you a little oriantation without having to read the numbers. But as guitarxe says ... using mods, like Kerbal Enghineer Redux is the better solution (as this gives you clear numbers)
  12. Created a Tourist Expedition Spacecraft ... i.e. 2 man landercan together with a service module and a hitchhiker storage container. Didn´t think it would be necessary to do a full barrage of tests (including landing on Kerbin with empty hitchhiker. Sent to 2 of them, each having the hithhiker filled with 3 tourists and the 3rd Kerbonaut, to Minmus. Landing on Minmus was a success ... upon return to Kerbin I suddenly learned about the big flaw in my design ... the fact that service module and landercan are above the hitchhiker puts too much pressure on the hitchhiker ... meaning that the hitchhiker of my first service module exploded upon impact (killing the scientist and the 3 tourists) (unfortunately I pressed F5 instead of F9, therefore I couldn´t even return to a save before landing). Now my 2nd spaceship is in orbit around Kerbin ... I will be able to rendezvous a rescue ship with the spaceship, thereby transferring 2 of my Kerbonauts to the other ship ... which hopefully enables me to transfer one Tourist into the lander can (where he is safe) ... this also means that unfortunately, it is very clear that 2 of my tourists will probably die (as they won´t be able to do the spacewalk to get them to the rescue ship). This teaches me to always test my tourist spacecraft with a landing on Kerbin, before actually using them with tourists
  13. How will you get the chinese (or russians, or americans, or indians) to actually pay the bills you send them?
  14. Relatively small and, I guess, relatively far away from New Horizons Position during flyby (compared to Pluto and Charon)
  15. I already was confused as I didn´t remember hearing of any collision between MIR and a dead satellite. (and I don´t think that any space station could survive such a collision (unless it would be a collision due to a failed Rendezvous-Attempt with it)) But I definitely remember that there was a failed docking attempt of a Progress transporter that IIRC damaged the airlock. If it is this one this definitely makes more sense
  16. You mean against people who believe they are signs of an alien civilization?
  17. Well, for the worst case the always have enough Soyuz-Capsules docked to evacuate every current inhabitant of the ISS
  18. The problem is not only the huge number of space debris in orbit, but also the fact that much of the debris is relatively small ... often getting smaller (and slightly changing orbit) due to collisions with other parts of debris and therefore hard/impossible to detect (with even small 1 cm sized parts of debris having enough impulse to punch a hole into unprotected spaceship parts) And that´s only the known debris
  19. Surely not enough to create a self sustaining fusion reaction ... icy/rocky planets are tiny compared to gas planets ... which are small compared to stars
  20. I love the reference to Cthulhu, the great old one. Any chance that one feature will get named Mi-Go, as reference to the elder beings who, according to lovecraftian mythology live on Pluto/Yuggoth?
  21. DSS-3x seems to be part of Australia as well
  22. So, have they already published Pics with the cities of the Mi-Go on them?
  23. Nope ... it is usable in all games after you put it into the gamedata-folder. If you have researched certain nodes with TAC LS-Parts in them (i.e. resource containers) you will however have to go to the science center and unlock those parts (at least if you want to use them ) Also it would be a good idea to have no manned missions running when you put the mod into gamedata ... I guess else your Kerbonauts might have certain problems with a lack of resources (while each capsules comes with its own set of supplies, those are rather limited (IIRC 3 days for each resource ... so, if you have long term manned missions running when adding the mod those might result in the resources running out and the Kerbals finally dying)
  24. Does the orientation of the antenna have any influence? I.e. whether it is actually pointing at the planet, not pointing at the planet at all or at a certain angle with regards to the flight direction? Or is the scan region simply determined by drawing a line between the ship and the center of the planet?
