  1. We all want to share our stories, so I need thank you for contributing to the community!
  2. Sounding rockets, in simple terms, are suborbital probes for scientific purposes. For KSP, this means: Probe core, antenna, SRB, science. As long as you're outside the atmosphere you can collect "in space around Kerbin" science. You don't have to go into orbit.
  3. But I do agree: It's better to have an abort on the ground and wait until the next day than losing an entire, million dollar worth rocket plus payload. Even if it means that some of us won't be able to see the launch then... Looking at you, @Scotius.
  4. Is this abort a first for SpaceX? Or have they had an abort in previous missions?
  5. May I casually break the "Most images in a post" record? In other words: WARNING: VERY picture heavy post! I've followed my own suggestion and took the time to quickly put together a plane and explore Kerbin's landscape. Flies surprisingly well for how little time I spent building it. So I began flying west and took "some*" screenshots of the landscape. *25 images in total I started in the middle of the night, in the hopes of catching the sunset (from Kerbins perspective, not mine). I arrived at the big crater, still in the middle of the night. I decided to land on the island in the middle. That took 2 attempts. Taking off took a few attempts, either because of my stupidity or the plane deciding to tilt to one side and lose a wing. Then there was just ocean, so no screenshots of interesting landscapes there. However, I did take screenshots of the sun rising during sunset: Fittingly, after the Sun fully rose, interesting terrain (more specifically: mountains) started appearing. At that point I still thought these were simply some mountains in the middle of nowhere. I was proven wrong... After another while of flying I got down to 200/900 units of fuel. Fearing that I'd have to ditch the aircraft I decided to land. And this is how far I've made it around the planet. Both KSC and craft are in the foreground, not behind Kerbin. Reminder: I travelled to the west, so clockwise, not counterclockwise:
  6. This has something to do with the texture resolution. The game starts at the lowest resolution (it seems) and then loads the resolution you set it to, resulting in the lag. The lag is by far less extreme on the lowest texture settings, hence why I think that. I guess it's something we'll have to live with. But given that the main menu is not the majority of the game, it's okay for me.
  7. Well, you are missing a lot (actually more of the same with different colors, but anyways). That being said; I'll have to be honest: I, and I'm pretty sure a lot of other people, don't spend that much time inside Kerbin's atmosphere, avoiding it like the plague. There certainly are beautiful landscapes to explore on Kerbin alone, too, see the last image in my post... I might consider it at soon as I have retractable landing gears, which I might already do (not sure). Those static gears? No thanks.
  8. I love how, between killer mountains and VIP itineraries, you still have "Orbit Kerbin!" as a contract. This game is called "Kerbal Flying, Driving, Crashing, Dying Program" after all.
  9. @Triop The traumas! All the lost Kerbals!
  10. First real achievement in my Principia career: I landed on the Mun! And I was worried about not having enough fuel. Luckily the mod adds a flight history. As you can see, i had a little too much fuel. Before I landed I noticed some mountains to the west of my location. They looked so great that after I landed I took my time and walked over there to take a screenshot. The walk there took 24 minutes real time, by the way. Kerbals and physical timewarp aren't a good combination, so I took the time instead of risking it. One thing I like about Principia is that you now have different reference frames. Time and time again I am fascinated by how many ways there are to describe one and the same orbit.
  11. The two solutions are (roughly) x=1.272 and x=14.7798, but I know this because Google can display up to four functions in a graph. My problem is numerically solving the equation without graphs.
  12. Are you sure that he ran to the cars, not the cars to him? That he wasn't dense enough to cause his own gravity?
  13. x = 1.2x Does this have a solution? I've tried a bunch of approaches and none work. (x does indeed cross 1.2x twice, but I can't find a ways to calculate these points) It's not like this is expected from me by someone, but I'd really like to know.
  14. Started a 1.3.1 career with Principia today. Already made it to a mun orbit. It's a little different than with patched conics, but it's really fun.
  15. Heard? Are you kidding me? I LOVED this game! I was horrible at it, though. No matter what I tried to do; the taxes always got me into the negatives. Far into the negatives. And it also has a pretty nice soundtrack.
  16. I'll take a break... An indefinite one, until I feel the need to disappoint myself again. Sadly that's guaranteed to work.
  17. This one made me laugh, mainly because I guessed the description before I actually read it.
  18. I have 566 hours in KSP. Add to that the I don't know how many hours I spent in the KSP .18.3 demo. And the few minutes I had with 0.13.3.
  19. I dock without mods, Infact my (main) game is vanilla. I have two others as well - one for LunaMP and one for testing out Principia (very nice mod, but it doesn't run well enough on my machine to consider it "working"). Heck, I even dock without RCS most of the time. Not because I want to, but because I forget to add RCS in the first place. Rest assured that I'm always like this, forgetting crucial parts for the mission. Reminder: I once forgot a docking port on a mission whose sole purpose was to dock to a station. Here's what you can do to dock: If you are in sandbox (or Jeb an experienced Kerbal)and have RCS, you can always point towards the docking port (well, the target, which more often than not will be the port), then correct with RCS. That usually works well for me.
