The Mun and back Cheapskate Challenge
Regor replied to ManEatingApe's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
@ManEatingApe This vessel originally costs 6,345, but 2861 were recovered, leaving a total of 3484 and has a total dv of 3315 m/s in atmo (but around 7000 in vaccum). It also houses a thermometer and has only 10 parts. The battery and solar panel exploded during entry but I think that is fine, as the rest of the vessel survived (this means that the descent angle and the survival of my kerbal was incredibly hard, as there was no SAS control left). However it should be noted that this for another challenge which had a challenged to include scientific equipment, so I added a thermometer. If you remove the (in this challenge) completely and utterly unnecessary thermometer (which wouldn't change anything because it is physicless), you would get it down to 5,435 . Because of this, I believe the cost of this mission should be 5,435. https://imgur.com/a/Om4DiOI -

Cannot EVA on Kerbal's Surface
Regor replied to jjmartin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Actually, you can EVA with physics timewarp, which is the case here. you just can't with on-rails timewarp. Also, you can eva on kerbin with complex level 1. -
At this point you are LITERALLY making things up. Stop digging yourself into a hole and retract your statement. If you are so skeptic about Stratenblitz using mods, you will “disprove” or hitherto fail to with literally any other entry, and you will never retract your statement. The whole world isn’t filled with hypocritical liars... which is ironic because you are failing to retract your statement under your terms. I know I would personally think much more highly of you if you retracted your statement, than what I think of you now...

What is the most HORRIBLE way one of your kerbals died

"""""ACCIDENTALLY"""" turned on 12000kN engine in space while poor Jeb was in line of sight... RIP -
I am genuinely really sad because I really love kerbal and i want to keep participating but gosh-darned school keeps me from playing it. ;(

What is Your Favorite Planet to Orbit/Land on
Regor replied to Little Kerbonaut!'s topic in KSP1 Discussion
Personally I love Vall, which is weird, but its just a cooler (literally), spikier, slightly higher gravity Mun. I find the terrain fascinating. -
The lander can for re-entry is just not good. Sorry, but it's hot tolerance is lower and its shape is terrible for aerodynamics and heat shielding. Use a command pod instead.

Can u go hypersonic with MK3 parts?

Yes but with lots of rapiers or whiplashes -
does anyone know how to get the sm armory mods?
Regor replied to The_Stinky_Broccoli's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
if you actually read the conversations, you would realise that it is literally impossible to get SM anymore. -

This is the thing. We can use math to find out how much it would take to travel all these distances. To flyby Moho, and approach at its apoapsis (which is possible due to its argument of perigee), we can use a delta v map to find an intercept with moho takes 1690 m/s from LKO. If you wait for a long, LONG, LONG, LONG, LONG amount of time in game, you MAY be able to get an intercept with Kerbin again without another drop of fuel. Then, if we assume that Moho and Dres are on the same plane (which they are not) and that you will hit Dres' trajectory at periapsis (you probably won't), we can use vis viva to find that that takes 1806 m/s in an absolutely perfect world. Using the same assumptions as last time, we find that an Oberth to Eeloo takes 1444 m/s. It is needless to say that this arrangement is impossible due to the way the planets are laid out in the game. Adding the numbers gives 4940m/s. Even though that may sound relatively small, basically ALL of these planets are on different planes, so much say that it is easily safe to say that you may need a 80% margin for orbital maneuvers, boosting it up to 8500m/s. Another cost you will have to pay dearly for is time. You are going to waste so much time, both real time and game time to go to a few different planets, that it is LITERALLY easier to build a completely new rocket. The d/v may sound like chicken scraps; afterall, that is how much is needed for a duna mission. Remember, though that you need a separate lifter stage to get your Duna rocket into orbit. And without mods, it is even harder. It is up to you, to make the decision now. -

Exactly. Getting number 3 is absurdly easier if you just send seperate probes, but that is only my two cents. -
When do I use which engine?
Regor replied to Talkingstreet's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
First stage > 1.5 at sea level. Should get you some of the way to orbit. You want engines with high thrust and usually high ATM ISP. Second Stage > 1 at vacuum. Should get you completely to orbit, and probably a bit beyond. Here you want engines with the most VACUUM ISP. Third stage doesn't really mater, as long as it is higher than about a half. Otherwise, burns start to get efficient. Here you can use weak but extremely efficient vacuum engines.
