Wow. @cratercracker, I believe you have 'broken the 4th wall' in this post. When I looked at the images, I just thought 'Hey cool, someone's screenshots'. But then I scrolled down and saw the part about us 'hearing' these images. I'm seriously thinking of nominating this for a Thread of The Month post (once I find out how, if it's even possible).

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? That will usually fix it.

Do you have any mods installed? More specifically visual enhancement mods? It could be that. Otherwise it could simply be a graphical glitch with your game. Also, does it appear in your other save files (separate games)?

KSP isn't supposed to be super-realistic, nor is it supposed to be super-unrealistic. They had to make sacrifices between realism and having fun and playability. Not everybody wants a super-realistic game. Not everybody wants a super-unrealistic game. But they tried to make it both semi-realistic and still fun to play and understand.

As far as I know, you can't set your birthdate in your profile, so that may be why. Maybe the feature was removed or something

If you practice using SSTOs then you should have little issue getting back to the KSC, and as you've said they are fun to build and fly

SSTOs are great for Career mode as the more parts you recover the more you save. Why send a 3 stage rocket to deploy a satellite around Kerbin if you are only going to lose money and not recover the parts? With an SSTO you can deploy the satellite and come back down, recovering all parts and making a tidy profit out of it. Not to mention SSTOs look very cool and hi-tech
