Unknown Object in VERY low Kerbin Orbit
Geonovast replied to aSpicyBanana's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Xbone/PS4 have the ability to take game screenshots and share them, right? Can you upload a screenshot? -
This has taken me quite some time, but I finally pulled it off in a way I'm mostly happy with. The wacky waving launchpad was from one of my many designs for getting this done. I reused a Falcon 9 style booster twice without ever recovering it. Could be done indefinitely if I was more experienced FMRS.

Falcon 9 Style Re-USE (Not "Refurbished")
Geonovast replied to Geonovast's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Final launch: First we'll fix the orientation of the second stage. Need to flip it all the way around since I picked it up from the wrong side: Hmpf . Fine, we'll go without the struts, since we can't get up there!: Refuel: Ignition!: For some reason, right about 30km, the air grabs the fairing and just whips the rocket around. Probably something to do with all the phantom forces I've been dealing with this whole time. I managed to mostly correct it by the time of automatic stage separation at 40 km: Stage Separation. The booster continues to spin around. And since FMRS crashed, we just let it tumble into oblivion: Let's push into orbit: Pop the fairing: Deploy payload when in transfer orbit: Circularize and de-orbit second stage: Full Video: I forgot the AS toggle completely for the rendevous, so you'll have to suffer with just the video of my "I'm clearly rusty at this" level of docking: Note: the ejection of the service module on one of the pods right before contact was accidental. I was moving the camera, and apparently letting go of the right mouse button after doing so right on top of an AGEX button is the same as left clicking on said button. -
Falcon 9 Style Re-USE (Not "Refurbished")
Geonovast replied to Geonovast's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Time for another payload. No pod this time, we'll do a comm satellite into higher orbit. I forgot the hit the Automated Screenshots button at the start of this one, so I don't have any screenshots of it picking this one up. Just imagine the lift driving out to the end of the runway and picking it up off the stand (or watch the video). The bugs I'd been dealing with also hit on this one. The Infernal Robotics 90 degree bug hit, so I lost the ability to strut the second stage to the booster. I also had an issue with FMRS, so I lost the booster on this one as well. FMRS isn't too fond of running launches that aren't "new". Which is fine, since I wasn't doing any more, but it still would have been nice to land the booster for a third time. Bringing the payload out to the booster: Load it up!: Back off and park: -
Falcon 9 Style Re-USE (Not "Refurbished")
Geonovast replied to Geonovast's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Launch prep for the second launch First, the pilot needs to securely attach the new payload to the rocket: (This was done for the first launch too, I just didn't put in the screenshots. It's in the video though. Then he'll climb up into the pod: Back off the gantry, and refuel the rocket: Launch again! Langer is not too pleased: Separation: Get payload to orbit: Boostback: Re-entry: Landing: Fuel purge: Deploy payload, and de-orbit second stage: Full Video: Alright... let's go get it again. Recovery vehicle dispatched to grab the booster again: Clamp and retract legs: Carry it back to launchpad: Line everything up (This one was a little smoother): Locked in!: Back off and park: Full Video:- 24 replies

Falcon 9 Style Re-USE (Not "Refurbished")
Geonovast replied to Geonovast's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Now that booster needs a new payload! Let's get one. Why not send up another pod? Pick it up with a giant forklift: Now we'll carefully drive it over to the launchpad: Lift'r up: And set'r down: After we back up and park next to the recovery vehicle, we'll make sure it's on straight: All ready for refueling!: Full Video: -

Now we're going to pick up the booster, and carry it back to the launchpad. Drive out to landing site: Line everything up: Clamp and retract legs: Drive it back over to the pad: Line everything up: Snap in!: Back off and we'll park the recovery vehicle by the pad: Full Video: Note: I did the snapping-back-into-launchpad bit several times before recording it (nearly) flawlessly.... but of course it was twisted when I was recording. Oh well, still worked.- 24 replies

This mission report took me a few weeks of failing before I got it to... mostly work. Here is an image of two command pods docked together. They were launched from the same rocket... but not at the same time. Let me explain. We all see the term "fully reusable" thrown around here on the forums, which typically refers to a rocket or spaceplane that can land back at the KSC for a full (minus fuel and payload) refund. Then I saw this: And it got me thinking. Landing, recovering, getting all the money, then using the money to launch another one could more aptly be referred to as "refurbishable." So I set out to built a Falcon 9 - style (Note: this is in no way meant to be a replica of the Falcon 9) rocket that could be reusable. In a nutshell: Fuel rocket Launch rocket Put payload to orbit Land booster Pick up booster Carry booster to launchpad Attach new payload Fuel rocket Return to step 1 Launching the rocket for the first time. Fueling: Launching: Separation: Orbit injection: Orbit: After boostback: Re-entry: Landing: Purge excess fuel and close gridfins: Deploy payload: De-orbit second stage: Full Video:

I live in SW Missouri. I frequently order stuff that comes from California. On more than on occasion, it got to me by way of New Jersey. One of those times it even stopped in Kansas City before it went to NJ. I think their route algorithms need some tweaking.

TAC LS / Universal Storage II converter estimator Testing
Geonovast replied to Geonovast's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
This was put on indefinite hiatus as USII was in some sort of re-balance and that there wasn't any interest. KSP-wise I'm nearing the end of a project right now. As long as docking and IR bugs don't make me toss my computer out the window, and I can actually find the files for this, I'll pick it back up when I'm done. Hopefully tonight. (Unless the bugs say no). -
Craft not connecting to relay satellite?
Geonovast replied to MFToast's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Without seeing the relay satellites themselves, it's hard to say for sure. But to guess, I'd say that your relay sats are simply too weak. They can talk to Kerbin because the antennas on Kerbin are really powerful. You might notice your two relays are not speaking to each other. That implies their antennas are pretty weak. Cue @Snark to come in with 3 paragraphs of headache-inducing math to touch more on this. Also could be that you don't actually have relay antennas on your relay satellites. -
Resource for example ships?
Geonovast replied to MPDerksen's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The WDYDIKSPT thread is another great place to get design ideas. There's all kinds of stuff in there, at all levels of wacky and practical. -
Welcome to the forums, @Cytrosky! For the parachutes, well, you can just stage them. But! That won't do anything. Any boosters you drop will be auto-deleted once they're out of physics range. KSP deletes all crafts/debris automatically if it falls under (IIRC) 22.5 km when it's not in focus. or physics range. So if you want to recover them, you have two options. First is Stage Recovery, which can give you the money for those boosters as if you'd recovered them. Second is Flight Manager For Reusable Stages, which does some time travel trickery to let you fly dropped stages.

Vessel Switching and docking
Geonovast replied to tawpik's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If you want the ability to switch vessels in flight by clicking on them (Which is really, really handy if you have more than two ships close together that are interacting), you want this guy. At the very least they need to implement the ability to ignore debris while using [ and ] in stock. -
Which is why you need something like AGEX, which lets you name them and edit them in flight.

Slow orbit with mun
Geonovast replied to drkblue_shadow's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've done this too many times. Usually because KER lied to me. It's tedious, but you could put a kerbal in orbit with nothing but an Mk1 command pod and get to Jool if you had the patience. -
It's hard to even guess without at least pictures. Ideally both in flight and in the VAB with CoM and CoL markers on, if you can. The craft file itself would also be helpful. Welcome aboard, @Ocie! We'll get you squared away. Even if the second stage appears stable launching by itself, if your nose is pointing far off prograde when you separate, it can still cause issues. 12km isn't that high. I usually try to make my first stage last until at least 20km.

Embed the picture, then double click on it. (Or I think you can also hold Ctrl and Right Click). This will let you scale the image to whatever you want, but the full size is still available if someone clicks on it. There's also drag handles around the image right after it converts from the link.

How do Kerbals survive the perils of extended space travel?
Geonovast replied to Xavven's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Maybe they don't. Maybe they just think they do. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/?ref_=nv_sr_1 -
Joined with 1.3. I did download one of the freeware versions once, but really had no interest in it. Must be a nostalgia thing. TUBM doesn't leap-frog forum games.

I've wanted this for awhile, so I definitely second this. However, if you have a decent computer / second computer, you might be interested in this: -
You could use this. Create a window texture you like, then just put'm on as stickers.
