Why? Isn't the ability to send a hundred troops anywhere in the world very quickly useful? The point of the BFR is being far safer than any previos rocket. True. Geopolitics have changed in the last 50 years, though.

A signifigant portion will. You only need a small percent. Also, its main importance might be for military dropships. No point if SpaceX can send dozens at once. So? Its Musk's ship.

It is designed to not need mantainance. The only risk is scrap metal. He should have made it count down, to confuse future generations.
-
It wasn't scripted, but there was no chance of the japenese bot winning due to weight. They should remove the pilots, switch to remote control, and then fight.

Wouldn't the existance of the internet slow down differenciation? On the other hand, there's so many memetics and inside jokes used on the net, that Darmok at Tanagra sounds familiar...

The long now foundation has many interesting branches. For example, they have Rosetta and PanLex, to create a global language datbase, de-extinction, and the Long Bets division, which has bets about the future(money donated to chairities) that rnage from short term economic predictions to what I just quoted.

Colonization Discussion Thread (split from SpaceX)
DAL59 replied to mikegarrison's topic in Science & Spaceflight
You can't just use data from centuries ago and extraolate it to Mars. Why would a Mars mission suffer a 50% death rate? Diseases? None. Food? We have MREs. Water? We have reclycers, and there's plenty of ice. Billions of dollars and communication with experts 24/7? Yep.- 442 replies

Spacex isn't NASA, and NASA hasn't tried to land more on Mars. Requiring millions in refurbishing. Reusing the crew capsule and sometimes SRBs is not comparable with landing the first stage and engines upright.

As I seem to have to say every 5 pages, the FH was not delayed. It was replaced by the F9 until reusability had been acheived. The original FH design was not reusable. True. There is no way it would be delayed 11 years. Of course, SLS is 13 years behind shcedule...
