#Spoiler has fixed problem I will look into this Should'nt this be gx = read_gyroscopex(gx)? This ties into my first question -
Is math wrong?
Cheif Operations Director replied to Xannari Ferrows's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I mean you need to test equations to prove the math is "real" for example you need to test that 1+1=2. You may at first thing 2+2=2 but you would be wrong. The same thing applies to science their is a correct answer but it may never be known. Math has a correct answer but I think that sometimes their are simpler ways of doing things. If you take this to mean that something war wrong then sure "modern math can and is wrong" however if you take this to mean we are right but not fully efficient (the position I take) then well we are right! But only sort of. The questions is... What makes something that is right, right? -
Would a space vacuum jet produce thrust?
Cheif Operations Director replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Government Surplus? Haha keep dreaming! Give the government 1,000,000 for R&D and it will spend $999,999 on donuts Unless you are in Soviet Russia... -
Then use 11 engines with some fins( I know I make it sound Kerbal(y) when it is not) Its just annoying that you can not tell any of them apart excluding logos
-
Nice if people had some imagination. Like perhaps not always using 7-9 engines on the first stage and 1 on the second. I have nothing against simple designs but if you could tell them apart it would be nice

Boring company

A lot of American cities sit on earthquake fault lines. Such as LA. Yesterday LA has a earthquake. Imagine if this happened on a coastal American city that sits one fault line. Boston is built mostly on landfill so that will not work. Boston has some of the worst traffic in the U.S. NY is already flooding on a yearly basis. Sure this will work in SOME cities but this is not a magical elon invention. Consider land erosion coupled with fault line AND then drilling massive tunnels under the city that will transport hundreds of people at a time. Imagine if a large earthquake hit LA during rush hour after years of see erosion. Consider how many building would already fall and count the fact you have large waves coming in. Now you have thousands of people underground and using that as an evacuation route AND now all those buildings are weakened -
Python Questions

As a secondary note: If I use a sensor to input data into a variable (ex: Gyroscope ---> 345* ---> gx=345*) I use this data to do certain things in flight. I then also log this data but I never actually change it. I do not need global variables right? -
Python Questions
Cheif Operations Director replied to Cheif Operations Director's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Oh ok that makes sense. How do I change the flight data? If I wanted to make the x 100 to an x 150. I think im going to use this more for logging data than for actual use (atleast for now) That is really useful. What did you think of that adafruit sensor? https://www.adafruit.com/product/2472#description-anchor -

ok but it needs to be a variable right? -

Is x a string or is x a variable? it looks like a string -

I checked out Adafruit before and they seem pretty good. I found this sensor which I think will do the trick https://www.adafruit.com/product/2472#description-anchor I still need to do a little more looking around first though to ensure I am right -
Boring company
Cheif Operations Director replied to Mad Rocket Scientist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
If you look at the boring companies animation of how elon initially wanted this to look it was a tunnel every 10 to 20 meters. Give me a break. Not impossible but it puts to much faith on a single archway holding. -

I have frankly no idea what I was trying to utter in that sentence. why bother with the ' ' s? When I do not use them I get an undefined message HOWEVER it still runs the same flight_data = {x: 5, 'y': 0, 'mass': 0.0} print(flight_data[x]) This does not work and im not sure why flight_data = {x: 5, 'y': 0, 'mass': 0.0} print(flight_data[x]) x = x + 5 print(flight_data[x]) How are they being changed unless I tell them to be changed. I can change these constants in the same way I change a global variable. -

Brainstorming: Fusion power via counterweight
Cheif Operations Director replied to HebaruSan's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Never said I could just lining thousands of kilometers in asbestos and then detonating a nuclear warhead underneath it is not wise. If anything fails all of that asbestos will be released into the atmosphere covering a vast part of land with the physical embodiment of lung cancers. Millions will get it and in some regards be worse than Chernobyl. I would much rather use the geothermal energy idea safer and frankly I think perhaps more power as well. How about cryogenically cooled metals? -
Ask a stupid question, Get a stupid answer back.

Why? That is mu question -

We are not doing that again! -
Rocket Boxes with special infinity engines. I feel bad for the console players who can not get mods...

Boring company
Cheif Operations Director replied to Mad Rocket Scientist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
With smaller diameter they can get less traffic through I'm willing to bet this may be a polynomial function of efficiency. Why not just dig a hole 1.5 yards wide and tell people to lie down on a tube and go through like a bobsled? This makes zero sense. Also all of this tunneling will weaken the structural integrity of cities -
totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
Cheif Operations Director replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
They would still need a latching mechanisms otherwise the fairing shell would just fall when pitched over. But yes I agree. It is a little risky though. Also the atmosphere would be getting less and less dense as you go upward so Im not convinced that would really work. The rocket reaches super sonic speeds when it is pretty low. It seems more economical to use three pistons that push against each other. One at the top and two near the center the air would then enter the shell and blow it away from the rocket given the speed. well we would not have nuclear weapons if that happened -

Nothing new if they build tunnels good for them but it is a side show and not innovation.
