It's been a hot minute since I last posted in this thread, apparently I got curious earlier and graphed out the data we got from SpaceX's Twitter, and the mass reduction is definitely the most mental thing. The fraction of the total mass that consists of vehicle-side hardware drops off massively with Raptor 3, presumably due to the deletion of shielding and the CO2 purge system. For each engine, it's less than 200kg and constitutes just over 10% of the engine hardware's mass. I considered calculating exhaust velocity and mass flow rate as well, but given that the thrust value is apparently for sea level while the Isp value is in vacuum (as you said), I figured it probably wouldn't give me an accurate result.
  2. Hi @zer0Kerbal, it seems like repairing failed parts doesn't work at all in the current version of the mod. I believe this issue has been reported previously in this thread, but it doesn't look like anyone's put a github issue together for it yet (unless I'm blind) so I made one myself. (My username over on github is different, I assure you it's still me ) I've put all the detail I have from my testing over in the issue report, but essentially, nothing appears to happen when clicking the 'repair part' button in the PAW of a failed part, and errors show up in the log. I initially encountered this bug on my heavily modded install, on which everything was installed via CKAN, so I installed it manually on a clean copy of KSP just to make sure it wasn't some weird mod interaction or CKAN messing stuff up. I hope I've been helpful, thank you for maintaining the mod! It's been a lot of fun to play with.
  3. This whole thing is certainly sad news to see. I was always hopeful about this game, and I'm optimistic to a fault, so this thread feels like the best place to chip in. I've grown distant from this forum in the last year or so. Part of that is because of the near-constant bickering that's been the norm 'round these parts for a while, but it's more because I've been consumed by studying to be an aerospace engineer. Kerbal Space Program gave me that. I genuinely think discovering this game was an extremely significant event in my life, and I'm not sure where I would be now if that hadn't happened. I don't know where we go from here, but I thank and wish all the best to everyone who made both games what they are, and imagined what they might have been.   4. I sent a probe to Eve (for science, obviously) and was left speechless. The visuals, the music, the ambient sound... There are still a fair few issues with the game, but the developers continue to knock it out of the park in this regard. Go see (and hear) it for yourself.

  6. I tested some things ahead of a jaunt to Jool. This was the first time in many months that I booted up KSP2 to actually play, rather than just briefly checking what's changed. I don't think I'll be consistently playing until 0.2.0.0 comes out, but I'm certainly encouraged by what I've seen. The game looks gorgeous (though I could do with a little more antialiasing) and performs pretty well even on max settings on my near-minimum-spec GPU, though the frames do take a hit with a lot of clouds in view. In a couple hours' gameplay, I encountered no serious bugs - nothing that couldn't be resolved with a quickload. Laythe or bust! I want to watch the sunset there, and we'll see what happens after that
  7. I appreciate that as the game improves, the discourse on this section of the forum is moving away from angry flamewars back to constructive criticism and calmer discussion. I long considered this forum one of the nicest and most welcoming places on the internet and I hope it can stay that way. The visual and performance upgrades in 0.1.5 are also very much appreciated

  11. This was a good update to read. I've kinda been lurking here on the forums for the past month or so, and similarly, I've been focusing my attention on other games (mostly KSP1, with a sprinkling of Elite Dangerous that I picked up in a steam sale) while waiting for KSP2 to progress. Given everything said here, I remain cautiously optimistic that this game can be what I've always hoped it would be. I've said it before and I'll say it again, things can only get better. Don't stop and falter.

  13. As far as I know they're the same as those on the rest of the vehicle, only held on with some special white adhesive.
  14. Wow, lovely effects there! Can't wait to see it in game. But I can't help but feel nitpicky, the big gripe I always had with KSP1's plasma effects (and, judging from that screenshot, KSP2's now as well) is that they simply displayed when you were past a certain velocity threshold without much regard for the context of the situation. I'll allow past me to explain further: I feel kinda bad mentioning this given how much work has probably already gone into the heating system, but you guys have already shown you're not afraid of making much bigger changes (i.e, the terrain rendering stuff Mortoc went into detail about), so I'll throw this out there on the off chance that you find it worthwhile. In any case, thanks again guys for your dedication and transparency. Things can only get better
  15. The Vector uses methalox like everything else. The way I see it, its stats never made it a particularly faithful RS-25 analogue anyway.
  16. KSP1 had its final update almost two years ago in June 2021, and they were very clear that it was the last major content update. We may still get a patch or two but I wouldn't count on it.

  19. I'll join everyone in being glad to be here, but just remember, this is only our first stop. The Hype Train has some way to go yet, and the tracks lead straight to version 1.0.
  20. I'm just as excited for colonies and interstellar as the next guy, but right off the bat? Honestly I'm just excited to go back to basics and just fly a Mun mission or build a space station.
