  1. Speaking of INT-18 (wasn't 17 the no-SRB version with awful performance and 18 the one we're talking about?), what would be the canonical build? Was any particular configuration selected and/or which ones were most likely to be selected? My guess for the most realistic 'baseline' option would be 4x UA1205, standard volume S-II with 5x air-lit J-2(S) and S-IVB upper stage, but I'm also thinking of ground-lit J-2s (either J-2T or just truncated nozzle), possibly underfueling the S-II or adding more engines onto it... or maybe I'm just underestimating the TWR of the baseline version Of course there's always an option for UA1207s, but it would be ugly(-er), I don't like it. Same applies to 5x UA1205 Anyways, how is 5x boosters the simplest version? Did Saturn V/S-II have 5x symmetry in its... structural build? Ground infrastructure? Whatever?
  2. Thanks, this explains everything. This option worked for me too, tho i wanted MOAR As the LUT requires modification anyways, why not shorten the S-IC by 3m? That would be about the same prop mass as 80% fueled full length stage but saving 10t on tank dry weight, and almost no additional R&D expenses
  3. But its uglyyyyy (Actually, i think it has its charm, and i find it kinda interesting from engineering & performance standpoints, but pure aesthetics - u g l y) Is this even with center engine cutoff? Maybe F-1A's throttling capability will help? Would you mind sharing performance numbers for your build? Especially the masses i guess Gotta admit i kinda like the INT-20(-3 in particular) aesthetically and really want to put it to good use in my AU
  4. Your post was one of the main reasons for my question in fact Finally got some time to check the numbers in-game: INT-20 with 3x F-1A on full load, unmodified tankage S-IC plus 1x J-2S on S-IVB, no P/L, fairing or anything above the IU, gets me a wet mass of 575t. S-IC tankage alone is 486t wet, 54t dry. Vehicle has 10.45 km/s vac dV, 1.19 vac TWR and 1.04 SL TWR. I play stock + Rescale 2.5x, so LKO requires about 5400-5500 m/s vac dV. Delta-V wise, the rocket can almost lift a full (35t + 4.3t dry mass) 3.75m ore tank into LKO, with a vac dV of 5367 m/s, but the TWR is just 1.12 Vac/0.97 SL. This leaves me with a very little practically achievable payload of around 10t. Shortening the S-IC by 3m sheds 80t of prop and 10t of dry mass off it, the whole vehicle now weighs 486t wet (no P/L), has 1.23 SL TWR and becomes dV limited in payload capacity with 1.14 TWR, 5km/s dV with 40t PL and a reasonable but not very exciting LKO capacity of ~29t (1.16 SL TWR, 5567 m/s vac dV). Any help at solving this mystery will be greatly appreciated. Disclaimer: all data is from stock and KER readouts in VAB, no actual test flights were performed. Sorry? I believe I have seen the Wiki page before (wouldn't call it a very reliable source tho).
  5. Am i doing something wrong or is INT-20 (3x F-1A) a ridiculously anemic vehicle? With full S-IC load it can't even lift off, and even with reduced prop load, dry weight is way too high and TWR is way too low. Shortening the S-IC makes it a bit more reasonable, but the overall performance is hardly any better than LRB-260 (2x F-1A) with S-IVB on top, so no extra gain for an extra engine
  6. I understand your wish to see the part in game as soon as possible, especially with the FLEM (which i would also happily use in my upcoming Apollo Mars mission). I can assure you however, that the limiting factor in BDB development is not a lack of ideas and concepts, nor it is a lack of players waiting to try out new parts. Making each new part requires a lot of time and effort, and BDB has a relatively small team of devs who provide us with extra high quality parts absolutely for free (while with their skills and experience they could totally get into "professional" gamedev and get paid for their work). This means that they do for the mod as much as their IRL stuff, free time and inspiration permits, and reminding them of your suggestions every day (or, to be honest, every week of even month) is not really gonna accelerate the development. Please have some patience ⬆️ Having said that, I'd like to ask for closed nosecone variants of wide and extra wide Saturn SLA's
  7. I once again have a very niche request/suggestion for @CobaltWolf How about a closed nosecone variant for the super wide SLA? I know there's the SAF fairing, but id like to have physical fairing sections for launching payloads without CSM
  8. Already asked a few pages back, didn't get any answer tho, so will try again Are there any up to date Tweakscale configs for BDB out there?
  9. OH MY GOD I've been dreaming about Minotaur/Minuteman parts for literal YEARS. Thanks a lot and waiting for them to be in game ☆_☆ Hint: i'd also be really happy to see Pegasus/Taurus parts
  10. Spacelaunchreport is dead, alas. But all the designs mentioned there can be found on https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=26915 alongside the flown ones
  11. Is there an up to date Tweakscale patch for BDB? The one i have still has old Saturn names and sizes, i.e. 5.625 and 3.75m
  12. Considering starting a BDB career (lots of other mods involved, but mainly BDB for the parts), so... Is the current version of BDB compatible with Skyhawk science system, or does it need any manual tweaks? Are contracts provided by BDB comprehensive enough, and/or are there any other contract packs required/recommended for a good BDB career experience? (Also, general recommendations on probes and planetary-oriented contract packs will be greatly appreciated) I've only used BDB on sandbox saves before, hence the need for some help
