Guys, I need inspiration to play KSP again
papuchalk replied to Fierce Wolf's topic in KSP1 Discussion
hey i need new career too. i never been to Dres or other far distant planets, but in fact, long missions with years of timewarping are not so entertaining to me. What i enjoy most is the initial research, first orbit, first fly by mun, first mun landing. and basically Duna is farthest i wish to go. but what i would appreciate very much is better missions regarding the real space programs from 1950s. I just wish the missions that game offers me are more logical with the technology i actually have in game, and so that game offers me more missions to do smaller steps with progress. In fact i would appreciate to have Mun landing as final stage of my career, but i would need much more missions in between, Mercury, GEmini like missions. Russian probes, taking photos of far side of Mun, and other real missions, which were very important back in those days, but now are considered small and unimportant, because Apollo 11 made it.. anyone knows how to get that career? which mode? I tried Mission controller 2, lots of entertaining missions i must say, but they come up very randomly and most of the time they come long time after i already did similar mission from stock mission generator.. too sad -
Transfer launch from Mun orbit: what altitude?
papuchalk replied to Hotel26's topic in Science & Spaceflight
i never tried, so i only guess, but i think that on lower orbit your ship will have much higher speed, than on much larger orbit. That means higher initial speed when launching the ops.. and to leave SOI of kerbin you need speed, right? Also you have a good point with orbital periods. You will do engine burns on different phase of the orbital circle , on different side of the mun Simply said you need to match Mun phase and Ship orbital phase to have the best result For going to eve you need to have Mun going backwards around Kerbin, and your ship must be on backwards period around Mun too For going to Duna, you need to have Mun going frontwards around Kerbin, and your ship needs to be on frontwards period around Mun too Mun direction and speed is also giving you kick, i think Now thinking about that, it might be pretty hard to find the best interplanetary trasnfer window and the sweet point of Mun together. because sweet point of Mun is happening only once per month (but is probably one week long ?) -
I love that squad is still making great progress of this game, thank you ! i think that even after ksp 2 will be out, and ksp 1 will make a paid expansion pack, most of the fans will buy it. Including me. for 10-15 euros i will buy it just for the respect of the squad team But, with new 1.9 update, i realized i cannot play the stock game without these mods anymore: TweakScale - reascale every part.. gives me tons of new design choices- i am not interested in stock clunky designs anymore : / Sometimes a little smaller solar panel would look better on that ship, right? DecouplerShroud - enables much more realisticly looking transitions between stages - and if used wisely and disable staging- you can use them as covers of service modules/parts ManeuverNodeEvolved - better controll over creating maneuver nodes other mods are not important, but these are really essential. So good bye 1.9 - see you in three months? I hope the modders are still making updates

finally built my first drone, and most importantly i found the proper set up for easy controll. Hovering and landing is a bit tricky. But After 5 minutes of practice i managed to land on KSP base main building heliport, and then safely back to ground at comfortable 1,2 m/s impact speed. it is powered all by batteries and solar panels question is, will this fly on Eve?

i did my second gameplay video today MIssion to Duna, with 3 kerbals, rover, surface experiments, collecting data from 2 biomes What i am really proud of - amount of delta v for each stage is just what is needed. Not a wasting over-engineered mission at all any comments appreaciated

3 years ago my friend told me he was playing a spaceflight simulator. then i watched some youtube gameplays because i have always been a fan of Apollo program, i had to install and try..
-
i think you need to place each device with different kerbal. Both engineer and scientist is needed. Though i am not sure if that is needed for parts to be working at all, or is it needed just for higher efficiency of parts. Also i think you need CommNet signal. I dont know where you are testing the experiments, but if you are on far side of the mun, and you have no relay antena, your experiments will be useless. If you havent played the game with commnet so far, read some stuff on wiki. Good signal is important part of most of the missions. EDIT i can see you are not using this part, Ground communotron https://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Communotron_Ground_HG-48 Also, are you testing it at night? maybe too little power to run all the devices thats all i can come up with for now, if you combine all above, it must be working : )

you can leave the descent stage on duna. Retro engine, tank, and landing strut - pretty same system like Eagle on Moon. ascent stage can be only cabin, tank and smaller engine than terrier. I Dont know if you have technology for that though. Thats how i land and leave on Duna tonight.
-
actually airbrakes are still pretty random tactic, as i am thinking about it now (still in need of F9). Having a motor for only descent stage with enough delta V would be more effective (you can also steer left to right while descent). Still, some practice before reall landing is needed.. sending a probe-lander ? Also, i think there was a mode, which could calculate your maneuver nodes including atmospheres on planets. SO when you are on orbit, and do a retrograde maneuver node, it would show you exactly where you land on Duna. Stock game does not allow that. I never used the mode though
-
what biome did you land into? I usually choose large flatty biomes, poles, midlands. However, my Next mission is planned to have landing spot at edge of crater and canyon, bringing a rover and coming in with 3 kerbals.. which is rather big and awkward lander with 8 chutes - so it will be interesting. anyway, i think most of dunanauts use good old F9 technique.. : ) if you want to be more in controll of landing spot before the chutes open, use airbrakes in various numbers and action groups. thats all i used so far https://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S

One of the worst gameplays i did was in a Jool system (first time there..). I thought i had lots of DeltaV in my lander and in the main ship, and by inefficient maneuvering i left my lander on a very large elliptical orbit around Jool with almost no fuel left. I thought it would be easy to bring mother ship closer, randez-vous, and fly away with all the crew. So i tried to play with maneuver nodes, for hours and hours. After all, I made the randez-vous but i had to time warp like 8-10 years, and it was soooo hard (large elliptical orbit is way too different level of RVs.. NEVER AGAIN). And after all maneuvering my main ship had so little fuel left (relative speed of both ships in the moment of contact was ridiculously high), that it was not possible to fly back to Kerbin. I was too exhausted to launch a rescue mission. I had to find a much older save of the game, and completely avoid doing that silly mission with lander. I was defeated. That was the only time in my KSP career that i had to find much older save of the game

did my first gameplay video today Mission: Going to Mun, using rover, robotic parts, scanning arm, collecting surface features, using surface experiments visiting East Farside Crater biome and Canyon - for the first time in KSP Apollo 17 style. Almost

Coolest Thing You've Done in KSP?
papuchalk replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Actually getting to orbit for the first time, and then first Mun landing were so exciting events, that its pretty hard to beat them with anything advanced in this game- 32 replies

Poll: Will you keep playing KSP1 after KSP2 is released?
papuchalk replied to EchoLima's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I expect that KSP2 will have many bugs and issues right after realease, and it might take a few months untill all patches and updates will be available. First few weeks of KSP2 release i think KSP1, with all mods, will still be slightly better developped game. First of all, i am not sure, if stock KSP2 will have better graphics, or generally said audio-visual impression, than KSP1 with all enhancing mods. -
I built a lander for Minmus which will be used mainly for searching the Surface features (BG expansion). This hovering lander will be much better than a wheel rover, which is not very efficient on Minmus (too slow and jumpy and they have to return looong way back to lander once they are finished..) Movement around Minmus will be done by RCS thrusters for comfortable maneuvering controll - Science arm needs to be landed precisely RCS thrusters placed at center of mass. Enough monopropellant in tanks to wander around Minmus foreva.. Actually i will collect all biomes on Minmus with this. Also perfect for data measurements in low altitude missions. https://imgur.com/a/O1q8adS

Sandbox game was the fastest way how i could try it at work. Didnt know science doesnt work there, as i dont play sandbox usually. In Career mode it worked fine. 30 points of science, pretty good. Like mystery goo

So i found the surface feature. brought rover with scanning arm and it scanned zero science. Whaaat ? : ) does it need scientist to be near? All that fun was for no benefit? Ooops must be because i tried in sandbox game..??

I dont know why most of the people place wheels on rover vertically. like this while you have much better stability (and appearance) if you rotate them like this.. and i love the way how suspension works when accelerating and breaking. Breaking is shown on screen
-
After updating game with the Breaking Ground expansion, i am still playing my previous game save. All works fine, except i cannot find any surface features on Minmus. I spent 30 minutes driving, must have been 15-20 kilometers of driving on two landing sites, and i didnt find a single Sandstone or Olivine. Is it possible that with older saves of the game the new feature is not working ?

Hello, any idea where i can get good tips and tricks for using robotic parts and expansion of action groups? I checked youtube but there is literally one weak tutorial how to use them. Any other sources? In-game tutorials?? Forum page that i cannot find? (as usual) Btw i am so happy for this update. I bought it right immediately after realizing that it has been released

Hello Guys. Anyone knows how to get rid of that annoying information about flight? See image in link Center top part of screen says what is Current orbital period, current eccentricity, current biome... i dont need that information and it is huge, it covers so big part of the screen It is caused by MIssion Controller, because if i delete it, the info disappears. But i dont want to delete the mod I have been enjoying it so much https://imgur.com/6W9lHTM Anyone knows how to cancel it?
