Completed an essay on Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” and now I never want to hear the song again.

Hmmm...
Who would have thought that Google Drive would have qualms with me for uploading a 16 minute-long video to it?
Not me, that’s for sure!

I made a Let’s Play of sorts for a game I have been playing too much recently. Parts 1, 2 and 3 are up right now, while part 4 will be up about 8-12 hours from now (as soon as I access my phone/computer basically)
I’m really proud of part 3 and unreleased part 4, so I hope y’all will enjoy!

Infrequent VGM #4: Touhou day 1 (since I have been listening to the music too much recently for inexplicable reasons)
SpoilerThis is one of those songs that is weirdly triumphant for its application, at least between 1:20 and 2:14 (which just so happens to be my favorite part), since you are fighting the person that caused this whole cloudy with a guaranteed chance of red hazy mist problem
This is one of the first 5 songs I heard from Touhou, and boy does it hold up. If not anywhere else, then 2:36 onwards until the song loops is the key part. The urgency this part creates is almost comical:
-dramatic echoey pause
-raise the BPM up to at least 10% higher
-lead with fast bass which is also present in the music track immediately before this one
-ROMANTIC TP TRUMPETS OMYGOD
-ridiculous piano arpeggiated glissando, which for extra awesome extends the one heard before the buildup
-new melody
-repeat
-after 2nd loop, raise the key of the melody and let the piano insanity climb even higher on the keyboard
-loop
-song continues
It just conveys that hot topic and/or piece of garbage are liquided at you, perhaps even more so with piece of garbage than in her initial encounter. (hold up why are the attacks named “simple danmaku for cornering a trapped rat” and “danmaku for killing with certainty via nightmares”) Also, hot topic throws 3 copies of moon at you. No biggie.
Mm yes, more glorious piano. A lot more laid-back than the previous 2 themes. This goes without saying once you know this fight occurs way earlier in this game than the previous two do in their respective games. Also fast background arpeggiated glissando (0:52). I’m a sucker, I know.
So sorry for lack of variation.
Any who listen to the first loop of all of these are blessed by Hatsune Miku, author of Harry Potter and creator of Minecraft.

Sorry for the lack of Daily VGM today, I only submitted the final assignment of [redacted] and completed [redacted] for the entire year, no biggie.

Daily VGM(I’m serious) #3: Awesome final boss themes, part 1 (part 2 will come a bit later)
(things I have already posted in stuck in head songs within the last 3 months are exempt)
Oh yeah there will be a lot of Touhou here since there are like 35 final/extra boss themes to choose from
I’ll shut up.
SpoilerJust wait for a few (12) seconds until the synth kicks in. You’ll thank me. From there is the actual Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke. I just love the climb throughout the song to include all of the instruments, the piano, the violin, the drums, the synth, the xylophone, the trumpet, with the latter being exclusively when all of the other instruments are present. You know what, just skip to 2:00 and be pleased. Oh yeah, and for the most attentive of you all who say “this is the extra boss, not final boss theme” Thank you. I have my my methods.
Everyone has heard this song, so I won’t go to much into detail. I find this to be the most epic and satisfying of the final boss themes, neutral is too chaotic, genocide is too mainstream (as if anything related to Undertale wouldn’t be mainstream) and the fact that fulfilling everything to get to this point of the true pacifist route is really painful since you can’t earn levels.
[slow clap] is all I have to say about this. best Bowser theme IMO (feel free to disagree)
I was held at third leg-point by the lady who owns this theme to put it here, so I’ll say something fitting and move on. The intro rocks. It puts off a “end of the world” vibe (which will happen if you let this birdbrain win. Yeah. She’ll burn the whole world to a cinder.) and fits the fact that she shoots miniature main sequence stars at you. You cant make this crap up.
Oh look, it’s Nova! This is an excellent final boss theme, concluding the techno vibe of the game into a masterpiece of a ‘“press A a lot” shoot-em-up fight. The fight is on a loose time limit, adding to the suspense. I can’t even count all the instruments in this one.
“If you listen to all of these, you will certainly not get a bag of occult balls.”

Since I was a bad boy yesterday and forgot about my daily music thing I’m going to post two of them today. And you [waves index finger in the air blindly] can’t stop me!
Daily VGM (for real this time!) #2: Cool area themes, I don’t know
Do I seriously have to describe why Sky Station Galaxy qualifies as a “cool area theme”? I just won’t. Figure it out by yourself.
This theme is my favorite of Undertale’s area themes. The icing on the cake is that it continues to play during monster encounters oh my god
Small but awesome details aside, this theme nails the “final area, you can do it!” vibe more than A New Home or True Lab, even if they are the final areas of the routes of the game.
My favorite area in the game, and matches the “COOL area theme” (haha) even if that “snow” is actually the ashen remains of a long-dead ancestor. The music is so calm, befitting a calm stroll through the area once all those damned Great Hoppers and Primal Aspids are dead.
This isn’t even the game’s final form! Well, It’s the 4th level before the final boss, but whatever. Hearing this blare while you dodge almost screen-size asteroids to get to the next part of the level is quite the experience, to say the very least. The string and brass in this one are some of the most on-point I’ve seen in a Kirby game.
Contrary to the name, this is no boss fight. It’s the final area theme, and one of the most climactic ones at that. At this point in the game, it feels like you, the player, are the most powerful being on this shimmering battlefield, and this music is what the cannon fodder spirits before the final showdown hear.
If you listen to all of these, then you get an internet bag of 1-up mushrooms.

You killed me with the nostalgia with the first one!
Also while we are at it, have you heard the soundtrack of "Miitopia"? The game has an amazing soundtrack!(my personal favourite is the battle theme for the Sky Scraper while the final battle theme is right behind it (the final one actualy made it to smash!, its called "The darkest lord".
Also loving the fact that people are giving the HK soundtrack some love its by far one of my favourite OST!

Daily music (mostly VGM since I sacrificed some sanity to become gamer) I might just call this “Daily VGM” if I get tired of typing this long-ass title #1: Rainy Edition.
It’s cloudy and depressing outside where I live and it will likely rain tonight. Here’s some music. I really dunno.
Spoilerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1unm0LS10ao
I still don’t get why the vocals play even when you’ve siphoned the soul of the lady singing but whatever. It probably would have made Christopher Larkin go bananas to get it to game quality. I mean If you’re like me and just prefer the latter half of the song, then you don’t hear it much, so it’s effectively the same as what could have happened when you siphoned the soul of the lady singing. I should shut up.

I mean c’mon, it’s in the title. (Well the song is called 3 things, Loose Rain, Lose Rain or Ruse Rain. Your guess is as good as mine.) The beginning is more calm sprinkling and quickly swells to a blustery storm, with all hell breaking loose around 1:40, possibly due to a huge tornado touching down. I mean the stage this appears in is much simpler than this explanation. Not like I’m going to deny that a tornado would touch down in Gensokyo (damn wind youkai) but whatever.

Haha!
You have been fooled!
You thought you I would only include VGM?
Too bad. Have some Beethoven.
Dark night rain is dark.
In all seriousness, this song is dark and depressing in the best possible way. I know rain isn’t the first thing one thinks when listening to this song (maybe) but I felt it.
Next edition will include more songs, I can promise you. Cheers to anyone who listened to all 3 of these in their entirety, you get an internet bag of

I have a stupid idea for a daily status game.
Each day I post like 3 or 4 random YouTube song links into a spoiler, not embedding them, and then outside of the spoiler I put a cryptic description of them, not in order of course. It’s pretty dumb, I know.

Since this is a thingy now apparently and I feel like asking it...
(those who are confused, read through @HansonKerman‘s status)
It’s a huge clump so I don’t have to post these in sketchy individual ones, so feel free to cherry pick those to answer. I’m expecting some interesting responses.
What is the general opinion on...
Team Fortress 2
Touhou Project
Spaceflight Simulator
Universe Sandbox 1 & 2
A Hat In Time
Factorio
Half Life

Ok this is basacly a meme at this point
So I can only give my opinion on Space flight simulator and Universe sandbox 2 since those are the only ones I have played
Space flight simulator: played it, realized it was KSP x Simple rockets with a paywall so I moved on
Universe sandbox 2: You can blow up planets, and it's great for experimenting with planets

frick you got one of my questions. I can’t believe I’m a meme now.
tf2: amazing. I love it. It’s mostly ded but has an active fan base for many fans to enjoy. I follow a few players on yt.
Touhou: wanna play it. People keep talking about it and that it feels like Undertale’s bullet hell system so ye.
sfs: stripped down mobile KSP 0.8, but slightly better. Pretty ok.US: meh. Played one. It’s ok. 2: meh. Never played. Looks good tho.
next 2: neutral, but they have a fan base. Never played, have no interest.
Half Life: eh. Not rlly into FPS. Tf2 is great but Half Life is meeeeehhhh. Nice plot tho. Half Life 2 started Portal, and Portal is just HL2 with a different plot and characters so I might play???????? Prolly not tho

Happy forum birthday to me
2nd one!

Should be playing KSP more this afternoon, and I have some ambitious plans for a Duna mission!
In the mean time have some cursed Touhou meme or something
”Hey so um”
”There’s this dead Buddhist priest”
”And uh”

This is an alternate response to a StudySync assignment I wrote up in 25 minutes, the actual submitted answer was far more deadened and censored of truth (also had no unprofessional but highly applicable video game reference at the end) and did not attack the counterpoint writer as much, don’t worry. “Think of the teachers!” The assignment was over 2 short papers, a point and counterpoint (you will see this one be fired down with at least 4 flak cannons), which were both concerned with “how gaming helps communication, and the question was “which paper do you agree with more” This was reassigned to me lately because many classmates who got this assignment never finished it before break (not me thankfully) so I made another go at it:
I would say I am highly inclined to agree with the 1st article due to my bias and experience with what the author of the counterpoint believes is selling your soul to the devil. Of course the counterpoint does make a precious few alright points that aren’t simply applying an insulting stereotype that depicts “gamers” as nasty and highly illiterate pigs who take pleasure in insulting one another, but even these can be fired down by simply stating that being on the internet does not mean you have to be actively involved in the “wretched hives of scum and villainy” that they believe to be every single online community. The original point hits harder to me now during quarantine than it did at the time it was assigned, due to my only interaction with my friends being now through the program Discord (which it goes without saying that the author of the counterpoint would throw blows with those who even bring it up in conversation) and I am totally unable to see them in person. The technology brings people together, and the author of the counterpoint would argue “iT wEAkEns yOu’rE boNd wIf yOu’Re fAmily” This is not applicable because this is functionally the same as making up the time with your friends that an absence of real schooling removes. If anything, this time of quarantine is development of bonds between you and your family, and weakening bonds between friends. If the counterpoint’s author isn’t happy right now from that, then I don’t know what will. You pulled a full Sagume on us and predicted the antithesis of the future. Also, a little extra (you can read about it if you add another extra), when were the point and counterpoint written? I would like to know, due to the main point almost being written in commendation of an almost more modern era than the counterpoint tries to discredit and verbally eviscerate.
thank you for listening to my heresy and I will see myself out to my blast bunker plated with adamantium where I will wait out the impending fallout of the counterpoint writer’s anger.
