The booster had already been used 4 times so the loss isn't that great. -

Would it be possible to boost the iss into orbit of the moon? -
Long before the breaking ground expansion kerbalkind was already flying turboprop driven aircraft. These unwieldy machines with their homemade bearings managed to take flight despite all odds. Now i would like a make a new challenge. Since we have bearings in the breaking ground expansion that part will be taken care of. However you are not out of the woods just yet. Why you may ask? Because you are only allowed to use the motor as a bearing. All the rotational power for the props must come from jet engines. Oh and i forgot the mention that you can use exactly NONE of the BG propellors. That means you can only use wings or control surfaces as propellors. The challenge is quite simple: Build your machine that must somewhat resemble an airplane. Take off from the ksc runway. Do a full lap all the way around the island where the island runway is and land back at the ksc runway. Scoring will be: time - up to 30 seconds in style points.

I can understand that from their perspective. I mean new sheppard is impressive in it's own right but it doesn't hold a candle to the falcon 9 booster. If SpaceX will have starship flying before- or at roughly the same time as NG spacex will still be one step ahead. I think NG really drives the pace of ss/sh development. They need to stay one step ahead. -

Wel.. no one can say sn1 didn't fly... I'd rather have them take their time. I'm getting sick and tired of getting my hopes up. -

C'mon Elon get your welds right.... -
I have discovered that it is actually possible to put a MK1 passenger cabin in a 2.5m storage Bay. And if you use pistons you can get it out of there as well.

Well "technically" yes.. but this seems to be a trick that completely takes the "challenge" out of the challenge... I mean if you do it this way it's not difficult at all to get decent altitude or even orbit. But for he is Scott Manley i will make him honorary winner of this challenge, does that sound good? I really like the effort but i don't think i should count it in spirit of this challenge.. -

hey everyone, as you may know ksp 1.9 features drain valves and these actually produce some thrust but terrible isp. the challenge is simple: build a "rocket" and try to get as high above sea level as possible. the catch is that you are only allowed to use drain valves as propulsion. Edit: no use of the overclock bug and also no intake air no cheats and no mods that alter physics, highest altitude wins. Leaderboard: Honorary winner: the one and only Scott Manley for making it to orbit utilizing a bug that let's you expell intake air through the drain valves. Normal leaderboard: 1 sturmhauke 4296 m 2 flying dutchman: 2243 m 3 boomchackle 1878m 4 klapaucius : 1640 m

did a retrograde orbit around kerbin, and if my heatshields would have survived i would have hit a whopping 1380 g's of deceleration.... -
