    My "standard" re-entry profile is usually set the Pe to 30 Km, if from LKO. If arriving from other planets, I set the Pe to 40 Km. If it's a spaceplane, I do a capture burn, if I have the fuel. I if I don't have the fuel, I try to slow down as much as possible whilst having the Pe at 45 Km.
