Thanks for the confidence, @sturmhauke. Indeed, no clipping of aero-surfaces; I'd be happy to share the craft file to anyone who'd like but it seems easier to just build this little guy yourself and see how well it flies. I didn't count the parts but there aren't many. I will also admit that this probably wasn't the vision of the OP but this thread has taken a pretty obvious journey within the rules laid-out. Our ships still meet the rules, they just keep leaning further and further over to fly faster and faster. No doubt someone will beat my new score; If we keep at it we might be able to get it down to 15-17 seconds...

Congrats @mystifeid on having the first manned run. Here is my new run, stopping at 6:24. I still think I can break the 6 minute mark with some stability fixes and more aggressive landings.
-
Alright, here is my 7:34 run. Not quite good enough to take the top but I am very confident I can go sub 7 minutes and maybe sub 6 minutes. We shall see...

Here is a little inspiration. I wasn't trying to destroy every building; I would have taken my time and saved ammo. I'm pretty sure it carries enough fire power to do it though.

Okay, so rocket power only, no props or jets. You might want to add that to the list of rules.

KSC Cockpit View Race Challenge
ralanboyle replied to Klapaucius's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Just a Thought- It might be fun to divide this race into classes based on propulsion: Unlimited Air Breather (No rockets) Propeller (only) -
Since we have agreed that the scanner cannot actually be used, is there an orbital range that we need to hit? For example: Inside Moho? Or could one potentially do this challenge with an orbit outside Eeloo if they chose? Does the orbit need to be circularized or can it be highly elliptical?

The Dukes of Kazzard Buggy Jump Challenge!
ralanboyle replied to Yakky's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
So, did I completely misunderstand this challenge or did I just score 2.2km at KSC? Video Here. -
My bad on the chutes @boolybooly, didn't realize that was against the rules. I still had the load save so it was easy to load up and land again. Here is the video. Holy Shehit @Aeroboi, that outclasses me!

@boolybooly, I have decided to up my score with my new SSTMinmus. Video Here. Also, at 657Tons, I'm not sure what the current record is for Maximalist, but this is up there. The Cost is $747k.

KSC Cockpit View Race Challenge
ralanboyle replied to Klapaucius's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I’m pretty sure I just clocked 27 seconds, but I haven’t reviewed the video yet. Can we get a hard number for what constitutes “stopped.” I feel like it shouldn’t be 0.0m/s because of landing gear wobble but I don’t know... -
KSC Cockpit View Race Challenge
ralanboyle replied to Klapaucius's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Ive been playing KSP for 4 years (2500 hours) and I just discovered this forum. I’m loving the challenges because I was getting bored of just challenging myself and not interacting with other KSPers. Thanks for admining this. Also, on point 12 of your description you refer to the "60 spot." Just a friendly note that you are looking at that upside down. It is runway "09" as in Heading 090 (East.) FYI. -

Alright, I believe I have the top scores for now in all 3 races with 42, 54 and 55 seconds respectively. Here is the video, all 3 races are flown in sequence. I really enjoyed this challenge and think I might continue to get the times lower. How about making a badge? Okie Dokie... I improved it a lot. Here is the new video with new scores of 34, 41, 47. The flames at the end of each run are the Seperatrons I use for braking. -
I'm thinking about upping my speed. Is this a "test to failure," or are we flying it to the limit, then backing down to safety?
