  1. The ISRU bit makes sense, but only for Duna, and possibly Laythe. Mars and Titan are really the only place where you can obtain methalox through ISRU. The baseline ISRU is usually hydrolox. Other fuels like Ammonia also fall into the same sort of category in terms of how easy they are to produce in situ.
  2. I'm gonna be honest here. it looks like the "methalox is the best fuel combo under any and all circumstances no matter what" mindset is impossible to crush now. I think a major problem with the space community as a whole(KSP community and space community heavily overlap) is the lack of nuance, how one thing is automatically the best for everything. I even fell into this trap myself(look at my username), although I would like to think I have left it. I used to think density was everything. Now I very much appreciate the value of high energy stages as well as the benefits of hypergolicity. KSP was praised because it taught people to make smart engineering decisions and about the nuance of spacecraft design. Now a huge part of that I feel has been thrown out the window, at least for early game until you get to exotic propulsion. I think it's getting thrown out the window. It's very clear what the KSP 2 devs are inspired by, and they're very attracted to futurism. It does look like the F-1B though(my beloved) so that's kind of a plus?
  3. this is really late, but yes, Copernicus style architectures certainly can be done. SLS B2 has somewhat lackluster capabilites compared to Ares V (130t to LEO, 46t to TLI vs 180t to LEO, 70t to TLI) but it could work. SLS has the payload fairing volume in the 10m fairing configuration, and both 8m and 10m MTV studies have been done.
  4. Copernicus Architecture is my favorite. Mars Semi-direct is also decent but the margins are tighter.
  5. when NTRs were actually appreciated as the best way to get to the inner planets
  6. I have an issue where if I open the snacks GUI while in flight, it dramatically decreases my game performance, like it goes from 60fps to 15, then from 15 to 2, and the only way to fix it is a game restart. Any ideas on how to fix?
  7. Hi, this is my first time making any kind of KSP mod of any sort. It's a custom engine, I have modeled it and I am ready to texture. I have tried texturing with blender's texture paint tool, but was advised against it, and I was painting all the individual meshes with different textures. I tried exporting the UV map and putting it into a seperate file, but I can't tell which parts or which. I'm also not sure how I would go about making shiny parts or rough parts.
  8. after running the numbers last night, today I tried to model an RD-270V to go with Glushko's proposal of putting RD-270s on the N-1 to reduce lag simplify plumbing and improve reliability. I felt I should make an RD-270V to replace the NK-15Vs on the Block B. Well, being the first FFSC ever made, the RD-270 was an incredibly complex engine. oh my god why did i decide to do this life is pain
  9. Loving it! I love shuttles and shuttle derived stuff, combined with the narrative, this is great
