  1. I'm using this post to reply to some of the questions/ problems, and some of my own experience and statements. 1. Downloads: I'm running KSP 1.8.1 with RSS 16.2, which was meant for KSP 1.7x (I thought), but everything is fine except for lagging about 15 secs each scene change, which is fine for me using a mac that dates back to 2013. I'm using ModuleManager 4.1.3 and the corresponding Kopernics (The readme of Kopernics wasn't in the GameData folder). All of my other mods are for 1.8x or 1.9x and ModuleManager did manage everything. I am sorry if I made you delete some up-to-date mods @Pds314 2. Payload: It' okay if you stack a large holding tank with ore so it weighs 17 tons and add some other parts. I'd say 20 tons is feasible because SLS can bring 130 tons into LEO and CZ-9 can get 66 tons to GTO, so a 20 ton GEO is possible, although these rockets would probably not be used for such purposes. As for the "inert mass" question, I would say that, it means the mass which is in GEO but not the engine and fuel tank you use to bring it up. You can use anything for the 20 ton, like something your own mission would use, or just a piece of space junk which does nothing. Sorry for not being clear. @moar ssto 3. Sector: I first posted this thread in the spacecraft exchange, and I asked the staff to help move it here. I think it can be categorized as a challenge, tough both for us and the computer CPU. 4. Latitude: I prefer to launch my rockets in Wenchang or Xichang, China. The 30N and 30S are just for reference, because high latitude launch site would make it harder to reach a real geostationary orbit, not just an inclined synchronous orbit, and the earth's rotation would give you less help if you launch there, which I think you all know long before I tell you. They're welcomed for a harder try. BTW, the final orbit is the payload's orbit after decoupling the final engine and its tanks used, which will make a slight but detectable change to the orbit. When I launched the first part of my LEO station, I found out my apogee at 400km and perigee at 399.5km or so. So I faced prograde and decoupled the upper stage at the apogee, turned out just enough to put it in a perfect 400 km orbit with no more than 500m of deviation. Not guaranteed. There is also a design, using only one (or a cluster of) rocket engines and decouple spent tanks on the top, with the payload just above the engine. I'm not sure if it works but it was studied seriously by rocket scientists, in real world, but not so successful as far as I know. P.S.: I'm a Chinese Junior Middle School student and will start school the day after tomorrow. I love real space missions and real physics more than simulated ones, which is why I try to keep simulated ones simple and not overriding real ones, but with a sense of challenge so I installed RealSolarSystem, FerramAerospaceResearch, PersistentRotation, and TACLS. Hence I won't visit the forum very often because I should absolutely lay the focus on school. I'll also play KSP a lot less often so maybe I won't post my own craft here until very late if I will post it. KSP is great game and simulator, and it has helped me a lot in my orbital physics learning, through books and KSP as our school doesn't have this course but I love it. Our Physics lesson is still talking about friction and Gravity, in their linear and low-speed forms. Nevertheless, I admire KSP, squad, it's modders, and everyone around here. I would really hope some effects of the theory of relativity can be added as stock or mods features though. I was nearly mad when I found out that I can't launch a SSO satellite. Still, I will check the forum once a week or so, to keep up with you guys and modify some of my contents. As I mentioned, I'm Chinese so imgur doesn't work here, and I can't see its pictures because our government blocks some overseas links. No need to change a image-sharing website for me though, you can just include some of your data in the text and you can still see it each other, if, you would really like to participate. I can also speak English without translators, so just take it easy, but I may make grammar mistakes and typos. Yeah it's pretty late here but is it noon in the US or afternoon in Europe? Anyway, good night, I'll sleep tight.
  2. BTW, I saw that you have been to each planet and moon in the system. Did you do all these in a single launch for a mission? I kinda feel it hard even to reach the moon and back with one launch just using stock parts.
  3. Thank you! I'll make sure that I can make it feasible, but I think the 2 mods are small enough to download though they change the stock files. I wanted it to be fair so I may move it to the optional list. Maybe I can enhance it on the way!
  4. No one is currently responding to this thread but I'd like to say that I have a preference for RSS vessels without RO implemented. Stock parts without Tweakscale is usually to small to lift heavy things but making history and third-party mods are providing enough thrust and fuel. So I'd also like to start a competition, to launch 20 tons of payload into GEO, with the following rankings and requirements: Ranks: Best Kerconomic Championship ------------------------------ use the least to launch this payload, parts recovered after launch counts in the as spent parts! Current First 3: 1. @Laie 619,353 funds. So this time KSC isn’t going bankrupt. 2. @Pds314 1,342,191 funds. Did the space center got all this funds from the richest Jeb? Best Launch-Pad-Friendly Championship ------------------------------ use the least (starting) mass to launch this payload! Current First 3: 1. @Laie M=2805t. Smart to use multiple high-Isp engines to maximize efficiency while not losing TWR. 2. @Pds314 M=6,001,416kg. Or, two Saturn-Vs. Really Helpful. Best Accuracy Championship ------------------------------ get the closest to i=0, e=0, T=23h, 56min, 4sec! Current First 3: 1. @Pds314 i=0.010034, e=0.000014863, pe=35,792,356m, ap=35,793,420, period=23h, 56min, 3s. Close but not (so) perfect. Best Kourage Championship ------------------------------ move the payload into GEO with the lease vacuum ΔV at launch! Current First 3: 1. @Pds314 with 13495.2 m/s of launch (theoretical) ΔV. If counting LEO as 9400, and to GEO as an extra 3980, it would be 13380. Really with a lot of courage. I don't mean Jeb, he is over-courageous that he wanted to stuff himself in the ore tank. Best (Kerbal) Stupidity Championship ------------------------------ Bill think we can launch something from the poles, and reach a GEO without inclination. Ignore the 20 degree in requirement 3. Instead, launch it from higher than 50 degrees, or the poles if you know how to edit coordinations in KSCSwitcher. Requirements: 1. KSP: 1.6 and onwards. (I'm using 1.8.1, you may need to find corresponding mods, I can say these mods are excellent.) 2. Parts allowed: Stock parts + DLC parts + NFT parts + You are welcome to submit other mods in your reply! Tweakscale can NOT be used on engines so create engine clusters if large-diameter tanks are required. 3. Other Mods Required: RSS of course, please launch at sites with latitudes higher than 20 degrees, north or south, for some challenge of plane transfers. FAR and PersistentRotation are optional, you may think it's making it a bit harder. I like them, though. 4. Build Requirement: payload can be anything you like, either a huge ore tank or just something you'd like to use for your later missions, just have to be 20 tons for this challenge. However, the payload can only assist the launch by giving EC if solar panels are attached, and giving control and comment access. Reaction Wheels or RCS on the payload should be disabled until payload is deployed. 5. Flight Requirements: No MJ, no F12 cheats. Anything else is not limited, flight assistance is allowed as long as it’s not autopilot and it’s still up to you to hit the keys and control the vessel. I do hope someone would participate. Advice would really be helpful!
  5. What if Long March 9 can bring the lunar base into reality?

    Yes, it can.:)

    Definitely.;)

  6. I don't know if that "limit" could be increased but there is a solution, though I don't really know what you want for it either. Perhaps you could rotate the map view up or down continuously until you can't rotate it in this direction any more, and you will face one of the poles. If your orbit's inclination is small, you can now tell which part of the orbit is inside the atmosphere/planet. Or rotate the map until you are facing the normal/anti-normal direction of the orbit so it will become clear, too. Of course, you may have to focus the planet to do this. And the orbit's intersection with the surface as you see will be really near the actual point so you know if the part that the orbit is inside the planet or atmosphere. If you just want to know if your orbit is stable around the planet, you can look at the left bottom. There, below the "staging" icon(which is shown by default), are three other icons(docking, map, maneuver mode). Click on the maneuver mode icon and you can see the ap, pe, period and other information about your current orbit. Above these indicators there is also an icon for details like inclination and eccentricity. Or, in map view, simply move your mouse to the ap/pe icon and their height will be shown. If the pe is below 0, it won't be shown in map view so the only way to see it in this case is to look at the maneuver mode (not the maneuver node!). If you want to know where exactly will the impact or aerobraking take place, try installing Trajectories by @Kobymaru.
  7. Is this an issue or just shaders? cuz it happens when I first lands, and it failed, so I tried again, and the black and white stripes occur again. as you see in the middle of the cargo bay, weird colors. the bay doors opened normally and my rover successfully drove out, it’s just the color. 1.8.1 manually installed. currently no other of my vessels use these bays so I wanna ask if it was just fine, regarding codes, though it doesn’t look nice. will upload log a bit later. EDIT:LOG. Searched for DaMichel in the KSP.log I saw no ERR or WRN when I scrolled through it though. EDIT2: I tried again, removing all other mods as this has no dependencies. happened again for all of the 6 cargo bays as I launched them on a SRB into the atmosphere for clearer views. Full log this time: [Full log file removed by a moderator] I don't have much spare space in my computer so I could only move mods out of the KSP directory, but not able to use an all-clear version. Pictures shown here: Weird stripes of black and white.
  8. Let’s see how massive can rockets be when attempting to launch something from the earth, using parts intended for Kerbin, which are small and heavy concerning dead weight. RO rockets not included for simplicity and...fun. Share your entire rockets! Or spaceplanes! In RSS, using stock parts and some mods like NFT, or DLCs, and build rockets! Here is a moon lander I built see Moon Lander Launch Kit(For RSS) on KerbalX.com
  9. I like this especially for RSS: from geostationary relays to manned flights with emergency escape systems to LEO space station construction to mini moon landers. Get it from kerbalx.com: see Space Station Launch Kit(For RSS) on KerbalX.com EDIT: More Pictures And Amends The Link EDIT2: Sorry, changed the craft’s name to avoid chaos==re-corrected link. EDIT3: New interplanetary use added.
