  1. Sometimes, I find the gap between the 15G antennas and the 100G ones a bit frustrating. I want to build a compact relay, with a long range but without having a few different comms devices. A 45G antenna, maybe at 1.8 diameter but a 1.2 base to attach to Non DLC parts and some probe cores. It would be nice to have this in stock for the people on console. I’m on console, and I rather be on PC so be quiet! Shoot, I gotta get to school, I’ll put the rest in when I’m back
  2. Just a reminder this post is 8 years old now
  3. I hope squad doesn’t fix them, I like some of the old textures.
  4. A Jool-2 sounds fun, or even just 1 lander that can be refueled, Like how I did it when I landed at Duna and Ike.
  5. So, I have a science mode. I'm wrapping up the last 2 nodes with a munar space station. I've gone to Gilly and Duna, and crave adventure! I want to go to Vall, Laythe or Moho, and as a kinda new player i'm wondering if some of them are out of my skill level. I THINK I can do gravity assists, and know I can aerobrake/aerocapture. If I can have input from more experienced people on what missions I need more experience for, or how to carry out one of my planned missions that would be wonderful! Just to think 2 months ago, I saw an achievement for doing a mission to Bop and thought, how could ANYONE return? You'd have to be mad!
  6. I had that happen to one of my satellites, although the culprit was the kraken. It shook my satellite apart, flinging debris away. Luckily, they were also flung from their geostationary positions. I can’t do anything about it but reload a quicksave.
  7. I’ve launched 2 geostationary missions. The first one, the kraken shook apart. Presumably because of the robotic parts. The second, I had a similar design without the robotics. I don’t have a picture, but look up Matt lowne’s most recent geostationary network. Mine are carbon copies of his. The kraken shook them to peices. I attempted to deorbit the spinning satellites, and one almost did until- BOOM! 6 new peices of debri in orbit. The second, BOOM! 4 more peices. The third, the kraken tolerated and was successfully deorbitted. Luckily, I had a quicksave, and am going to deorbit the entire upper stage, satellites attached.
  8. To reach the edge of Kerbin’s SOI. When you fall from that height, It saves DeltaV doing your final escape burn. I’m not that good of a player. I’ve only aerobraked successfully once, I’ve only unsuccessfully used a gravity assist. Lower your expectations
  9. These do have a chance to not be true, being pure coincidence, or my eyes seeing what they want to see. I always challenge myself to see celestial bodies before I enter their SOIs, but sometimes without even trying I catch a glimpse of other planets suuuuuuper far away! The most common occurrence is Minmus! Sometimes while i’m looking at something else, I see a small green dot. I check the map screen, sure enough it is Minmus. Then, i’ve had 2 other occurrences. The first, I saw duna while doing my escape burn to reach said red planet. I checked where the target indicator was, and it matched up! And then, doing my escape burn back to kerbin, I see a dot way far in the distance. I consult the map screen, Jool and Eeloo are in that area, but Jool is closer. I clean my screen, it’s still there. It may just have been Jool! Or, this can all be disproved by a dev as my eyes seeing what they want to.
  10. Well, I can answer this question. There used to be an exploit where a player could set the thrust on the KAL to go straight down, and say, have 1,000,000 kn of negative thrust from an upside-down terrier at Eve sea level without wasting a drop of fuel. While I haven’t messed with KALs before 1.10/Patch 7, I assume it was fixed then. Edit: Here’s a link to a video of Danny2462 exploiting it:
  11. At first, I tried 20 km, and I crashed into the surface. Then I raised it to 25, and shot past Duna. 22 km was juuust right, and my apoapsis went from a bad gravity assist to 600 km above sea level. I didn’t want to aerobrake again, So I raised my periapsis above the atmosphere, and will do an engine burn to get to my final orbit.
  12. Only my nuclear engine and it’s fuel tanks are optimized for low drag due to the design philosophy they’d be the only part exclusively in a vaccum, so, uhh, oops! But 20 km sounds good, maybe 25 to completely exterminate the risk of burning up.
  13. I name my 1-time use rockets things like GSD-1 Geostationary Sat Deployer-1 But this rocket, I plan to use a lot, so I want an actual name!
  14. Happens to me all the time. I think the cause is closing time warp before it fully slows down, or it’s just random. But I just make and load a quicksave.
  15. I just launched my duna mission, and I remember the last time I aerobraked at about 40 km, It didn’t help at all, but I didn’t get a single temperature gauge. So I’m wondering what altitude I should use, to save DeltaV and not burn up.
  16. I just did a mission to gilly, and I was planning to do 2 high-velocity escape burns. 1 960 m/s to reach kerbin’s SOI, then another one I can’t remember the cost of to escape kerbin. But I had to plot these 3 orbits in advance because The mün would throw my ship off course. The same thing happened with my duna ship!
  17. I like those names. I think i’ll do Vandenberg. I just got the joke, and it’s a good one.
  18. Yes, (to 18watt)my mission names are: -Minmus 1 -Minmus 2 -Munar 1 -DMP 1 (Duna Mapping Probe 1) -Gilly 1 -Duna 1, but I want my launch vehicles to have cool names in the subassembly section. If I named it Medium Lift Expendable Launch Vehicle - 1A, it would actually be more confusing for me. My sandbox save has things like: -Proton and Neutron (1.25 and 1.85 Small Sat launcher) It’s kinda stupid but -REMA (REcoverable Medium lift lAunch vehicle) and -REHA (REcoverable Heavy lift lAunch vehicle) -Goliath 1c (a 5 meter rocket to bring superheavy payloads around kerbin’s SOI) Goliath 2 (a 5 meter rocket to bring superheavy payloads around the solar system) My interests are anime and rocket science, so not much to go on.
  19. I don’t know how to put images in, but i’ll describe it. (My last name) aerospace presents: The unnamed medium-lift launch vehicle. Customizable for any payload! This rocket has been used to launch our first expedition to the moon, coming back with almost limitless data! Then, it launched a mapping probe into orbit, waiting for a Duna Transfer Window. Our future missions for it are a mission to Gilly, with the medium variant and Mars with the heavy variant, then limitless satellites and space station parts once the tech tree is unlocked. Light variant! First stage: Mainsail with 60% thrust, and unlike other rockets the fairing plate is mounted here. Second Stage: Single wolfhound engine and 1.25 meter payload adapter Light-Medium variant! First Stage: Same as the light with 70% thrust, but with 4 strap-on LVT-30 liquid boosters Second stage: Jettisons the strap on boosters, leaving the center core fully fueled Third stage: Same as light second stage Medium Variant! First Stage: Same as previous with 80% thrust and bobcat engines at 50% thrust mounted to Soyuz strap-on tanks Second stage: Jettisons the strap-on boosters, leaving the core fully fueled Third stage: The wolfhound engine but with a bigger tank, and a 1.85 meter payload adapter Lastly, the heavy variant! First Stage: Three mainsail cores at 100% thrust Second stage: Jettisons the outer cores, leaving the center fully fueled. Third Stage: The same as the medium variant
  20. I’m preparing to launch my interplanetary expedition, and it says my rocket is too big. What? I look at the launchpad, and it’s the level 1! I exit and re-enter the VAB, and it fixed itself. Edit(s): Now it’s the right pad, but it still says my rocket is too big I went to the engineer report and it was 160/18 tonnes. It’s so overweight for the mk1 launchpad It happened again.
  21. Yeah i’m squeezing that last bit of performance out of my rocket.
  22. I’m planning to do a Gilly mission/Eve flyby and will return in a Mk 2 lander can. I’m wondering how much ablator I should bring for my kerbin re-entry. That’s all.
