  1. Today's progress: blood oceans The terrain in the above picture, while seemingly a little boring, is only a small snippet of AT-5's blood oceans. The moon has 5 underblood terrain layers, the highest being the Continental Shelves and the lowest being <REDACTED>. And those layers are just the PQS alone. You can look forward to seeing custom terrain scatters and Parallax 2.0 support in the near future... NOTE: The in-game blood oceans will be much darker and foggier. You will feel cramped inside your submersible.
  2. Dark. Empty. Red. Decades ago, all known stars and habitable planets vanished along with their inhabitants in an event known as The Quiet Rapture. Only those onboard spacecraft were spared. With society on the verge of collapse, the survivors are searching for any trace of natural resources in a universe of desolate moons and black holes. One such moon holds an unusual anomaly: an ocean of blood. You are a C.O.I. commander tasked with investigating this anomaly. Scotoma is a planet pack based on the events of Iron Lung, a horror game made by David Szymanski. Prepare to explore Moon AT-5 and its neighboring celestial bodies in unprecedented detail as you struggle to find answers amidst the dying starlight. Our future depends on your success. Licensing All self-made content for Scotoma will be licensed under All Rights Reserved; you may not copy or create derivatives of my work in KSP 1 and KSP 2 without my permission. Credit will be given to David Szymanski for all content copied or derived from Iron Lung (such as the mod description), and the same goes for any supplementary mods Scotoma makes use of. Timeline I hope to release this mod sometime before the summer ends; however, I am working two jobs and preparing for college. Updates may be infrequent. In-dev screenshots (7-7-2023)
  3. The issues almost certainly weren't related to floating point precision. Perhaps "game breaking" wasn't the best way to put these issues; instead, I'll opt for "player experience-breaking".
  4. I have considered this and once spent an entire month preparing an interstellar update for Precursors; however, the update had numerous game-breaking problems that I could not solve or find help for, so I gave up. I still have the failed update stored on my computer. If someone would like to make an interstellar patch for Precursors, they're welcome to, since I don't think I will get around to making it myself. Fun fact: the failed update would have implemented a secret planet named Odyssey, which would have had glowing rocks on its surface and would have only been accessible via a secret wormhole.
  5. If KSP 2 eventually becomes more playable, update-stable, and supportive of planet modding, then yes. Meanwhile, nobody is permitted to recreate Precursors in KSP 2 without my permission.
  6. A very uplifting dev post. Full steam ahead to the promised land!
  7. How Not to Argue: KSP 2 Edition Poor arguments to make “Pessimistic” arguments “I wasted $50 dollars on this game!” While the current state of the game may leave much to be desired, it is your responsibility as the customer to do your research before buying the game. If spending $50 on KSP 2 right now seems like a risk, then don’t spend the $50 dollars. Or do, and just keep the game on standby until the game hopefully improves. ”The devs are [insert negative adjective here] for how they’ve handled KSP 2’s delivery” Don’t simply attribute the current state of KSP 2 to the developers’ dispositions without also considering their situation. The KSP 2 devs could actually be a set wonderful, passionate people who are dealing with poor circumstances. “Being optimistic about this game is not okay” Very rarely are things in this world so black and white. Yes, KSP 2 has some things to be happy about. Yes, KSP 2 has some things to be sad about. Raw opinions about the quality of a space flight video game don’t merit universal “right” or “wrong” status. ”This game should have been awesome at launch” Ambitious games take longer to develop. KSP 2 is both hugely ambitious and unique in concept, so it isn’t unexpected that it has some problems out of the gate. It will naturally take some time to get community feedback and fix those issues. “Optimistic” arguments “Stop being pessimistic; have faith in the developers” And what happens if the developers don’t deliver? What then? You may have reasonable evidence to believe that the developers are going to (or will continue to) make KSP 2 amazing; however, many people on this forum have equally reasonable evidence to have concerns about the future of KSP 2. Blind faith is useless in an argument; solid evidence and analysis is not. ”Stop arguing about the price; $50 is a completely reasonable price” You may love KSP 2 in its current state. Others are disappointed by the lack of features and the endless bugs. $50 is a completely reasonable price…for you. “Stop hating” Not all people who express disappointment and pessimism are haters. Some of us have solid evidence to back up our arguments, and we want to express our feelings. Not all of us necessarily express those feelings appropriately, though. ”Stop being upset that you have to wait for [insert feature not yet in the game]. Waiting is just part of the process” While making a great game understandably takes lots of time, some waits are just too long. KSP 2 has already been delayed several times, and now updates towards 1.0 are going to slow down. Some people may fear that they paid $50 for a game that will be unplayable and/or incomplete for years and years to come. “Neutral” arguments / argument tactics Using dumb insults in an argument Solid facts, evidence, and analysis are the things that will both win you arguments and garner respect. Saying things like “oh, what do you know?” and “you sound like a twelve year old” will not. Arguing with those who refuse to listen You may have the better argument, but as infuriating as it is, sometimes you just have to walk away. If an argument isn’t going anywhere productive, then it’s not worth continuing. ”I’m right because the majority agrees with me” Quality over quantity. If the majority believes that the proper way of destroying an active hornet nest is with a baseball bat, then I’m okay with being wrong. My current thoughts on KSP 2 Kerbal Space Program 2’s present situation is somewhat similar to that of early No Man’s Sky’s. Too many features were promised during KSP 2’s development, and too many of those features were not present at launch. Now, the KSP 2 team is slowing down the cadence of new updates and patches in order to focus on significantly improving the game, perhaps like how the No Man’s Sky team went silent for weeks after launch to work on their first big update. What happens next mostly depends on the passion and perseverance of the KSP 2 dev team. While fans certainly have the right to be disappointed and pessimistic, there’s also good reason to be hopeful of KSP 2’s future.
  8. The Spring Patch is out now! This patch attempts to fix the invisible Scar surface issue. Unfortunately, my efforts might not amount to much, since I can't figure out how to recreate the problem on my system. Changelog -Attempted fix for Scar -Fixed incorrect biomes on Abyss -Changed stock Abyss' ocean and atmosphere colors -Added new loading screens and removed the banding from the old ones -Minor config tweaks to a few celestial bodies -Updated Precursors' license to reflect the release of KSP 2
  9. Make sure that Scatterer and Precursors are both on the latest versions. If that doesn't fix the issue, delete or remove the stock Kerbin Scatterer folder from your files. As for Echo, my guess is as good as yours.
  10. A lot of people have mentioned this bug. My current theory is that the problem is with Kopernicus (as a troubleshoot, I would download release 143 and try running Precursors with it). This week is really busy for me, but I'll try to fix the problem as fast as possible.
  11. Something a little different (Part 2)... Celestial body size comparison infographic All bodies are accurately scaled to one another.
  12. This might not be the solution to your problem, but don't use any Kopernicus version after the January 16th, 2023 release. Precursors completely breaks on the newest version. Yes, they have collision enabled. No, you won't need a new save. Make sure you have terrain scatters enabled in the KSP menu first, and set all scatter settings to 100% / high.
  13. UPDATE 1.6.2 is out NOW! Terrain Update Custom terrain textures and scatters Overhauled Solus 8K gas giant textures and normals Originally, the Terrain Update was going to simply add custom terrain textures and surface scatters. I'd say I went a little over the top with new features this time. Changelog -Added custom surface textures to most celestial bodies -Added custom terrain scatters to most celestial bodies -Improved lore on some celestial bodies -8K textures, normals, and cloud maps on Rage and Serenity -Overhauled Solus' color map -Overhauled Solus' corona texture -Updated Solus' description -Gave Maar an exosphere -Added new loading tips -Added new easter eggs -Reduced the Scatterer atmosphere height on some celestial bodies -Fixed the orientation of Icebound's normal map -Fixed the "blue atmosphere" problem on Frontier (thanks to @Maximum Fruitcakes!) -Minor config tweaks -Other stuff Future plans -Volumetric EVE clouds -Parallax support -Resource support -Additional surface features and easter eggs
  14. Resources are not yet a part of Precursors. However, I may add resource support as part of the upcoming update.
  15. It would be cool if these weekly adventures doubled as loading bars for the next update! For every bug fixed or feature implemented on the to-do list, the devs could add a emoji next to that item. We could then watch development take place in real time.
  16. @Just Jim Sorry for the ping, but I’m not sure who to contact about my question. I discovered a website (link snipped ) while browsing Google Images that sells the community’s planet packs for upwards of $10.00. What is the protocol for reporting these types of websites (if there even is one)? Thanks!
  17. A couple of things from your recent messages… 1. Frontier SHOULD have oxygen, at least in the most recent version of Precursors 2. Frontier should also have a white atmosphere. There’s a README.txt in the mod files that tells you how to get rid of the blue atmosphere (unless you like it) 3. All of the loading tips are by me…including that one 4. Icebound’s surface isn’t invisible in my setup (Scatterer and EVE Legacy). Check that all of your mods are up to date. 5. Weather is purely visual right now in the form of clouds and sheets of rain. Adding real weather to Precursors would be amazing, but unfortunately, it might not ever happen
  18. I highly recommend EVE (legacy version -- volumetric clouds are not supported) and Scatterer (most recent version). Precursors is an enjoyable using any of the gamemode options.
  19. As a planet modder, I'm excited for the revamped celestial bodies!
  20. @The Aziz Kerbol System Grand Tour! If there's one thing KSP 2 Early Access nailed, it's the overhauled celestial bodies. Gosh, they look amazing!
  21. @The Aziz Also, Laythe, which looks...uh...questionable in quality. Look at that atmo rim...mmmmm. In all honesty, Laythe looks like it was whipped up in MS Paint.
