  1. Career mode is finished* and ready to be put into the game Boris *Please note, by finished, the flow charts and modeling diagrams are now complete and plastered all over the wall in Havester's office..... and thats about as far as they've got
  2. A quick and easy campaign mode for sandbox KSP (with lots of details on the web) It is 1955, 10 yrs after kerbal world war 2. Your job as the new head of the Kerbal space program, is to get a kerbal on the mun by 1969, mastering such techs as boosters... moor boosters, docking, landing craft, re-entry, and not forgeting parachutes. For each achieved target eg, first successful docking in orbit would mean you get the 3m diameter rocket parts and mainsails to use in your mun mission. Good luck Boris
  3. The important question for any KSP rocket is "does it fly?" not how well built or efficent it is, does it fly? and the 2nd most important question is of course "does it fly without exploding?" The questions "will it complete the mission?" "can you land the thing on the mun?" "have you have remembered the parachutes this time?" are merely for information as your ship flies apart when you do too sharp a gravity turn at too low an altitude Boris
  4. yupp your rockets definetly show promise.. and struts... but surely you can squeeze a couple more SRBs in there? just for the added boominess when everything goes boom Just use patience when flying to the mun, and be aware just how many times you will have to build a rescue lander in order to rescue the crew you've just stranded there... then another ship to rescue that crew too Boris
  5. other games? real world.... they've long since faded since I found KSP
  6. I've lost 56lbs in weight since buying KSP Worst part was the 3 weeks spent in hospital having life saving heart surgery.... woke up after the op, switched on smartphone, watched the Build fly dream trailer.. yupp enough of me is left to play KSP... suppose I better call folks/friends and tell them I'm alive Just had to wait 2.5 weeks to go home..... KSP withdrawl <shudder> Then 3 months off work with nowt to do but eat, sleep and kill kerbals.... ahhh heaven Boris
  7. Been a while since I've had anything worth sticking up so..... Gentlemen ... Start your engines! The grand prix de Duna, 2 laps around the face and back Boris
  8. 2AM ? you're giving up early, I've got to the point before I must have a successful launch now or I'll be late for work Most of my mid-flight explosions can be traced down to too much throttle between 20km up and 40km up, but I do get the occasional "wtf?" moments when a proven launcher explodes, But then I just restart the game, relaunch and it works fine Boris
  9. Only the LOX engines seemed to want to drain everything... so they were dumped pretty smart'ish, any ways , as promised yesterday, the Heffalump made it to Jool today, sadly the mission to put it into a decent wide orbit did'nt go as planned. The aero braking at Jool went in, losing 2000Dv to achieve an orbit with an AP between Laythe and Vall, but the pe was at 200Km and in any case ended up with a Laythe intercept with a Pe of -30km Throwing a manuver node up and fiddling with the settings put me into a nice orbit with aero braking at Laythe , so the plan to orbit Jool was dropped and we're now in a nice stable 135km high orbit at Laythe It has 4 full orange tanks and 5 full 3 meter RCS tanks left, should be enough for my Laythe shuttle(still in development) to get up and down about 6 or 7 times Boris <<currently building the laythe manned station, as well as planning the mk 2 heffalump... with extra boosters
  10. Well the Mechjeb on the front does'nt need the power from the big panels at the back, plus they get in the way of the Lox booster engines, so until the lox boosters are dropped the panels stay shut. I did try launching a 6 LV-N drive section, but its too heavy to get into orbit using my heavy lifter Hopefully what will get into a Jool orbit just outside the orbit of Laythe will be the 5 orange tank payload, and the LV-N drive section, the 4 3meter fuel tanks will have been emptied and dropped, as well as the RCS tanks at the foward end Or I could end up with a bunch of orbital debris, I did ask Jeb if he wanted to pilot the thing but he said not even he was that crazy Boris The heffalump launches tonight!... maybe even live on IRC
  11. I never do anyway, always move AP out to 2000-3000km first before doing the departure burn, and the 4 LOX engines on the back are there for exactly that purpose, to help with getting the heffalump into solar orbit. Boris <<<heffalump pilot
  12. I needed a fuel tanker suitable for orbiting Jool and refueling any and all probes in the area So after a few assembly flights, the final 2 fuel tanks were added about 15 mins ago I'll retract the big solar panels before starting the engines and the flight to Jool starts tommorrow..... wish me luck... Boris PS that weighs twice as much as the Jool orbital lab being planned....
  13. Gawd... walls of text, use mechjeb, not use mechjeb, dock like this, dock like that... Lets get simple (and use mechjeb.... be quiet on the back row) Launch 1 capsule with docking port into a 130km circular orbit (use mech jeb to circulise the orbit)... this is the target. Next launch another capsule with docking port(also fit lights and some batteries), time the launch so that the target craft is over the desert coast to the west of KSC. aim to get an AP of 130 and a PE of 110, and you'll end up behind the target. Use the mechjeb rendezvous function to align the orbits And you should see a couple of markers for closest approach, when you get to your AP, go prograde with mechjeb, and use the RCS with the H or N keys to make the closest approach markers get further or closer together with a bit of patience you can get them down to <100meters, orbit until you get close, then hit the RELV- button and thrust until your speed equals 0. Then right click on the target's docking port, and set as target and hit the PAR- button, you are now flying parallel to the target craft. Use I,J,K and L along with H and N to thrust your craft sideways, forwards and back Oh and when you go into orbital darkness you'll see why I always bring lights Its not the most efficent way of flying, and it relies on Mechjeb, but it makes it easy to dock. the other thing to remember is that your docking skills take time to get right, look to spend 45 mins at least on the first run following the steps above. Boris <<about to get burned at the stake for using mechjeb so much
  14. 234 : Asteroids that go pop like a balloon when you plant a flag in them
  15. Wing it always If it works , it flies and gets saved, if it does'nt fly, theres always SRBs to make it fly, and Jeb, Bill and Bob watch the procedings from the safety of the KSS11 "Put a remote control on it? damn those things cost money, stick a kerbal in it"
  16. Well my outer worlds missions and the moho one too have all been probes, eve research flight ended up with kerbals on gilly, as well as a rover and a mapsat, and the duna mission ended up with 3 kerbals standing on the singing hill, before they barely made it back into orbit and had to be picked up by the carrier ship by remote control (thank gawd I stuck a probe and an RTG on it) Only reason my kerbals have'nt gone out to jool etc is because I want the probes and mapsats out there first to see where to land, anyway.... a Tylo return mission... hmmm gonna be fun
  17. With 10 of those in orbit, any invading alien fleet would think twice before messing with earth
  18. 142 : futurama engines that dont move the ships at all , they just move the entire universe around the ship. 143 : days jobs for all KSP forum members so they dont sit at home all day coming up with silly ideas
  19. I dont want military weapons in KSP.... I want to build crazy rockets... and then see if they will A. fly, B. fly well C. not explode D. get into orbit E. get to other planets and F. not explode when they get there Adding guns/lasers/heat seeking missiles is just so last century anyway... when your job is having a hand in making this sort of thing weapons are just so boring Boris
  20. For all your probing needs in a multi-moon system , BtAC industries can offer you no finer system that the original 'multiprobe' However this is the slightly cheaper older version The new version (no screen shot available as yet) holds 4 mapping capable probes of the same design, complete with their own mechjeb units to make navigation easier, and not the 1200 Dv of the mk1 probes pictured, but an amazing 2300 Dv per probe, plus landing gear, parachutes, solar panels, RTGs, and a full suit of sciency type bits and bobs. The carrier ship has been modified so it can arrive in the Jool system with about 1800 Dv left after braking into a Joolian orbit outside Tylo ready to deploy the probes either inwards or on a moon hopping flight to the outer moons Remember , this design has enough Dv so that it does not need to do dangerous aero-braking manuvers to get into Jool orbit, with all the risks that involves, but arrives safely, calmly and ready to do science. The only downside is that it needs to be launched in 3 sections from KSC and docked in orbit before it is ready to go do stuff Boris
  21. Ok so I've managed to build a rover using the biggest stock wheels, all sorts of girders, platforms, batteries, solar panels ........ and a telescopic ladder. But all my kerbals do is fall off the ladder when they get to the top instead of moving onto the platforms where theres some fixed ladders to hold onto So how do I get my kerbals on my mega rover? RCS is out because the rover will be on planets (hopefully)
  22. Hi Would it be possible to add 'saturn' type planet to the game.... looking back on some screenshots from a Laythe mission, and seeing Jool in the sky,i thought all this needs to be perfect is a ringed gas giant. I would have stuck this in suggestions... but it says no planet discussion in the sticky
  23. I was doing a nuclear booster launch for my next Joolian mission, thought.. lets take it upto 180km .. see if my tug can get it there and get back (120km is the usual height).. but I forgot to check where KSS11 was (a 300 part 150meter long space station carrying Jeb, bill and bob that orbits at about 150km) Anyway.... I'm flying away, watching Ap/Pe when suddenly the frame rate drops, and I think "what the " and a purple target goes by at an incredible rate, managed to click on it as it retreated and got about 600 m/sec relative speed .. yikes would have been one big bang if it had hit But theres a pic somewhere of a shuttle radiator that took a debris hit and its one big melted hole.. but then having the chinese wack a defunct satellite with a missile did'nt help either.... thats where a bunch of debris has come from
  24. How about I start the ball rolling with "Mucking great mountain" : the huge single mountain/pyramid at 5 south 261 west on Eve
