In response to some polite appeals through PMs, the mod team has discussed the matter and we refer you to this more carefully crafted version of a similar discussion. Also, if someone would like to create a thread specifically devoted to offering advice and condolences to beset fellow forum members, that would be a nice thing to do. Keep in mind, however, that these other threads would also be required to abide by the forum's rules and remain on-topic.

Make RTG units have halflife
Vanamonde replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You're all free to disagree with each other, but please do it without the insults for the other side of the discussion. -
Maybe.

Note that system admins can read anything on the forum, whether reported or not. A report cannot be attached to a member account. Only to a specific post or PM.

Huge kraken defying rockets
Vanamonde replied to Flying dutchman's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
This exchange of spacecraft has been moved to Spacecraft Exchange. -
This sounds challenging. And so it has been moved to challenges. And welcome to the forum.

The Name Change Thread (WARNING! ONE TIME ONLY!)
Vanamonde replied to Souper's topic in Kerbal Network
Okay. -
Keep your forum members close, but keep your moderators closer.
-
We don't.
-
Can't tell if you're joking or not, but we don't keep records on that sort of thing.
-
You're imagining things. There have been no Trek movies since 2002. (And nonsense like the concept in that image is why.)

If you go to a thread labeled "KSP airplanes" and half the posts are about, say, pro wrestling, wouldn't you be frustrated? Where would you go to find the airplanes you were actually seeking if the title of a thread was not a reliable indicator of the content of the thread? You'd have to poke around at random to find what you wanted. Would that be fun? A productive use of your time? Would it make you want to continue visiting the forum in question? This is why all functional forums require members to stick to the topic of the thread in which they are posting. Yes, it's a limitation. But it's also required to keep those forums functional and not just chaotic jumbles of unrelated posts. Yes, I removed some well-intended commiserations from this thread. I also removed unrelated joke videos, advice on home electrical wiring, job interview advice, an extensive discussion of the viability of maintaining vacuum tunnels for high-speed transit, and complaints about forum moderation. And that was just the most recent of the many occasions on which moderators have intervened in an effort to keep this thread moving along in a productive fashion. Those of you who resent the removal of the commiseration: would you also like to wade through all of that other unrelated content to find just the posts about commiseration? If you want to discuss ramifications of something which flow from but are not on-topic for the thread in question, no one is stopping you from starting a new thread for the new subject, nor is anyone stopping you from sending the person in question a personal message (to offer condolences of for some other reason). And if you disagree with something a moderator has done, you are free to send that moderator a PM or send a protest to the forum leadership. But you are not free to clutter threads with unrelated discussions, nor are you free to derail threads with protests about moderation, since those are also off-topic and not of interest to those seeking the actual content of a thread. And since it has become apparent that continual interventions from moderators are not enough to keep this thread from devolving, it is no longer productive and will be closed.

I believe it was Kerbamedes who said, "Give me a parachute and an engine and I will move to other worlds."
-
Remember infiniglide? After a plane crashed, for example, a detached control surface might decide to go on a jaunt to Minmus, all by itself.

I also like working with tugs. This is what I use to place or move modules around my space stations.

You sure about that? Remember, you only get one name change. -
Whats the best forum to discuss multiplayer KSP activities
Vanamonde replied to Diveyez's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Roleplaying (people pretending to be countries and companies) led to terrible arguments on the forum and had to be ruled off-limits. If that's what you mean, it would need to take place away from this forum. If you want to recruit players, we could move this thread to Kerbal Network for you. Or did you have something else in mind? -
Builds in the game can't be larger than the physics range limit. Parts too far from the center would not spawn. There have been changes to this over the years but I think the largest possible build would have a radius of 2.2kms. This sounds like the kind of thing @bewing would know.

The atmo model was replaced in version 1.0. Is that what you mean? Only minor tweaks since then.

PS4 screenshots of stuff we’ve built.
Vanamonde replied to Nytr013's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Some interesting stuff. -
I wouldn't worry about launching this build from the pad. The lore is that the Star Trek ships are built in orbit anyway. Looks cool, by the way.

Launch profile stinks
Vanamonde replied to Ron Devu's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you're overshooting the desired altitude, you are not shutting the engine down soon enough. Here's a guide I made a while back. I haven't updated it lately but it should still be viable. -
A whole bunch of non-complaints have been removed from the complaints thread.

Okie-dokie.
