Show off your landers MEGATHREAD
Vanamonde replied to Drunkrobot's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Stock Duna landers, you say? Big and little: -
I think I might finally have some working rover designs. Here are the first two, on Mun. The little one is pretty slow, but very stable, for short-distance trips. The bigger one is much faster, but much less stable. It can take 7 kerbals long distances in relative comfort. I've crashed the big one many times in testing, but while it flips easily, it never seems to take any damage. Both have a lot of extra room on their decks to install the equipment we will one day have.

Do we really need another thread about how oppressed we are? The fact that others disagree with you is not the same thing as censorship. Of course the game has bugs. That's what "in development" means: unfinished, frequently buggy. There are a couple that have been around for a while that are a major nuisance and I really wish they would fix (Mainsail overheating), but we don't get to dictate the order in which Squad fixes the bugs. However, obviously they are working on bugs, not only with the big updates, but with the post-update patches. Where is the basis for complaint? How is anyone being prevented from saying there are bugs? There are two entire sub-forums devoted to reporting bugs and seeking help with them. If your complaint is that other players are shouting you down, what difference does that make as long as Squad is seeing your bug reports? Is there an example you can point to of Squad doing something wrong just because it was popular, or not fixing something because too many players claimed not to mind it? ]The fact that this thread is there at all disproves the complaint that the mods are shutting down things they don't like. You can't have it both ways, and complain that they're shutting down too much AND not shutting down enough. KSP is not intended to be in our universe. The planets are far more dense than they should be for their size. But if you take that difference as a starting point, the physics actually is quite realistic. If you really want to see lazy developers that never get around to fixing bugs, then I invite you to try any release by Creative Arts and Bethesda, both of which put out 'gold box' editions that have lists of serious glitches as long as your leg. KSP, in alpha, has fewer problems than the supposedly finished products of those two companies. Yes, you are. That is the whole basis of your complaint.

Did I.Q.s just drop suddenly while I was away? (Movie reference, not insult.)
-
The wheels are mounted vertically, and only begin to twist after I've been driving for a while at fairly high speeds. I'm experimenting with a kind of torsion bar suspension though, so it's possible the wheels are getting into the situation you describe as the frame flexes. But if so, why do they only twist in, never out, and always at the same time?
-
Sometimes things can end up underground, depending on your terrain detail settings. KSC2 is still there in my game. The tracking station is on that ledge, and the other buildings are below and to the left of it.
-
Has anybody else had this happen? I'll be cruising around on the new rover wheels and they start to twist inward, just a little bit. But then it's as if they dig in and it quickly gets worse, as you see in the picture. Right after it gets that bad, they suddenly spring back and throw the vehicle into the air. Only seems to happen with the new wheels.

Your English is fine, and the version numbers don't mean anything except that a higher number is new than a lower number.
-
Howdy. (10 char minimum)
-
Oh, well, yours is an even closer reproduction of that. Nice job.
-
Pretty plane. Did you intend for it to look like an RAF Bucaneer?
-
I haven't seen a new marker. Is it only on IVA view?
-
As I posted elsewhere, my previous record holder was Morrowind, which I played just about every day for 10 months. In a few days, I will have been playing KSP just about every day for a full year. As a rough estimate, that would be somewhere around 1200 hours. And I'm not tired of it yet.
-
As well they should! Have you noticed what happens to parked vehicles in physics warp?
-
Some of the monoliths were made solid in .19. Not all of them, though. I don't know why.

At what altitude can we see the easter eggs
Vanamonde replied to ImpulseSpaceCenter's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It used to be that, if you knew where to look, you could see an intermittent, tell-tale sparkle from 1,000km. However, I think that may have changed in the latest terrain revision, because I haven't seen anything in .20 yet. -
Stuck in translation mode!
Vanamonde replied to Colonel_Panic's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Have you tried the mode buttons in the lower left corner of the screen? They are: staging, docking, map view. -
Stop my ship from rotating :c ?
Vanamonde replied to Bobiii11121's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you have a joystick installed, make sure it is centered, even if you're not using it. -
What's with that all this whining about how hard it is to get to Moho? In my day, it was hard to reach, AND then when you did get there, it cooked your ship until the landing gear blew up. Now THAT was a planet! It took a real neuter green creature to land on that monster of a world! And doors? Who needs doors? I mean, we had them, but our engineers hadn't figured out how to open them yet. So we'd land on Mun or Minmus, look out the window, and try to deduce things from sheer observation. Now THAT takes some scientific skill!

This one is just pretty, and this one amuses me.

activate sas without activating asas?
Vanamonde replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
SAS mode toggling applies to both. You can't have one running without the other. (And SAS only works when it's turned on.) -
How to do a proper burn?
Vanamonde replied to Stealth2668's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The marker is calculating a mathematically precise heading on the fly, adjusting for every little wobble, and there's probably a bit of floating point slop in there, too. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to follow it exactly. I generally don't change my heading at all, once I've started a burn, knowing that the original heading will get me pretty darned close. -
Find out what the beeping is!
Vanamonde replied to Rage097's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The game has always done that, at least for some of us. Whenever I'm moving over the surface of the water, there's a sound like someone plinking little bits of metal together. And yes, it's proportional to speed. -
Your Definition of an Accomplished/Professional KSP Player.
Vanamonde replied to Flixxbeatz's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Anybody who's not as good as me is an ignorant noob, and anybody who's better than me is an arrogant elitist. Isn't that what all these discussions boil down to? I would say that an accomplished player enjoys the game without worrying whether someone else is better at it or not as good. -
How to stuck lunar module in this
Vanamonde replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
He's not a native English speaker, but his question is quite clear to me; he's asking for advice on how to include a lunar lander in his existing rocket design, as pictured. Pawelk198604, that's already a pretty tall rocket to be adding things to. How about sticking a docking ring on the nose and having it meet a separately launched lander in Kerbin orbit?
