I'll speak generally. Usually the hardest ones to moderate are the ones where no clear rules are being broken. Because then, we have to act as firefighters, and fighting such wildfires are difficult whilst still keeping discussion of topics going. Furthermore, often times with such contentious issues us, moderators ourselves are having the same discussion. I think as a general rule, if there has been a controversial topic on the forums, it's also been controversial to us moderators. I for one think it's a strength of the moderation team. With such a close knit group, it's easy to fall into groupthink and I like to think we fight against that as much as possible.

Itsa me, AmpsterMan, hello! @Red Iron Crown

Well it depends on each of us, methinks. Some of us are pretty private with our own lives, and others are kinda open with their personal lives. We spend quite some time on the modchat so we tend to know a bit about each other :p. As a rule, we should be on the modchat at any point we are on the forums, so we tend to collaborate on pretty much any rule breaking that means infraction points. Sometimes we are quite heated in our debates too . I think this is a good thing; I think for the most part we avoid "groupthink" and have different people with different mindsets and life situations so it's good

Another thing to point out is that the drag will also be twice as much. So if you put something in front of the wing, or put the wing inside the fuselage, it would still generate drag. The only thing is that the drag would get applied in a different area, so it may behave a little differently than you might have thought.

Gracias!

How climate change alters regional climate in unpredictable ways
AmpsterMan replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
History will just repeat itself this way. Nothing will change.
Science Labs.... Science Labs never changes.... Please folks, we close threads like these all the times because people get too upity about things; too passionate. Discuss the issues at hand not the issues with each other, and we should be fine. -
One day someone got mad because of some moderation that was done (can't remember the details). They proceeded to spam the forums with very ungainly images. Unfortunately, I was one of the moderators with the stronger stomach so I had to go through the whole forum along with others deleting the images. The person kept making other accounts for that night. I think it was like 3 hours dealing with some jerk. I work, go to school, go to church, and generally have responsibilities outside of the forums. That night I realized the magnitude of the responsibilities. (Note, many forum goers helped a lot; I can't remember their names)

Dark matter 'Einstein-Bose condenates' and universe structure
AmpsterMan replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Thread reopened. Please remember not to attack the person, but rather the argument. Hate the game, not the player. Furthermore, if you think there is something that requires moderator attention, just use the report button. It's easier we get an email and none of us are doing anything important like taking care of our wives, children, dogs, plants, etc. so we could answer immediately; sometimes, before you even post it. Carry on -
AMP, the new KSP!
AmpsterMan replied to Foxy2015's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Why have I been called into this? -
My favorite part of being a moderator: Hanging out with friends on the Modchat and getting to see KSP and the community from a different point of view. My least favorite thing: When people take an attack on an idea as an attack on their person; likewise, when people think that attacking a person is akin to attacking an idea.

What brand of GPU do you use to play KSP?
AmpsterMan replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I bought my computer at Office Depot (I know, I'm a peasant!) so it's an AMD Radeon HD 6550D integrated graphics. -
What is your naming system for Planes/Rockets?
AmpsterMan replied to musicpenguin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have gone through so many different ways of naming my rockets/planes it's not even funny. My latest way is to just give it a name and then a version number. so far, my command module is by version Moho 7 because I keep adding stuff to it. If it's an intra generational improvement (i.e., i noticed that an extra parachute would work) I give it a .1 and continue. -
To explain why 100km is the "you are in space" At 100km, the velocity required for a plane to generate enough lift is equal to orbital velocity at that altitude. Therefore, at 100km, you are "in orbit" because you stop hitting the ground not because your wings keep you aloft, but because the earth is curving away from you just as you fall.

redirecting class E asteroid
AmpsterMan replied to Cannon's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm having a similar issue, but with a more modest payload. Class C. Do you guys recommend trying to get it to aerobrake? I cheated (infinite fuel) my first time just to get the feel, and my probe and the rock exploded. Cheers -
I don't think we've ever deleted a post because we disagreed with someone. Sure, we've had thermo-nuclear war amongst ourselves on whether someone calling someone's avatar "obnoxious" or some other was breaking the rules. (Some of us agreed, some disagreed) but ultimately we go by the forum rules and we tend to give the benefit of the doubt. Only time we delete posts are when rules have been broken and, mainly, when people are just being nasty to one another. (Or any of the stuff Sal posted; gotta have a strong stomach to be a moderator sometimes)

One of the things I like to stress about moderation action is that we aren't one big monolithic person. We have moderators of all "molds" as it were, and I think that is a good thing. You have no idea how sometimes simple questions devolve into lively discussions in our chat xD. Still, though some opaqueness is sometimes nescessary, I think that we try our very best (within our imperfect limits) to come to an equitable solution for all.

Strange Rotation At 3km?
AmpsterMan replied to Kepesk's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
I've merged your threads because they seemed to be about the same issue. Your post didn't show up at first because new posters have a five post waiting period where each post has to be approved manually. Cheers! -
