[1.2] Procedural Fairings 3.20 (November 8)
AmpsterMan replied to e-dog's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hey folks, let's get back on track. Sharing opinions are not against forum rules, even if we may disagree with them. That said, using tact isn't against forum rules either. Criticism given at the right angle can be easier to swallow. -
Ok, so I need a spaceplane 101
AmpsterMan replied to juanml82's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It took me twelve hours of constant playing and testing to figure out new aero, but it works. So don't be disheartened, it can happen I'll give a hint: Wings generate a lot of lift but they also generate a lot of drag. -
1.0 is finally upon us! With this new update brings much to our tables. More parts, more power, but most of all, a different aerodynamics system. With new aerodynamics comes new responsibility. I would like for this to be a small section describing the more obscure and less obvious things with new aero. Furthermore, if there are any questions you would like answered, please use this thread to post your questions. It will help moderators, QA , and Experimentals testers focus their responses. Please note, you are under no obligation to post your questions in here and we are under no obligation to respond xD. Primary Changes • Mass no longer affects drag • Drag is dependent on shape, orientation to the velocity vector, part occlusion, mach effects, and air density. • Atmosphere actually exist now. Temperature and pressure vary with altitude, latitude, and time of day. • Aero Engines have peak thrust efficiency at different Mach levels as well as altitude • Wings have a special aero all to themselves that behaves differently from part aero Derived Changes • Parts heat up faster in the lower atmosphere because of denser air (hence, easier to conduct heat) as well as more friction with the air around it. • Night time air is more dense than day time air. However, it is more dense because it is cooler, so the speed of sound is lower too. • Air is more dense the farther from the equator one is. • Less dense air means less air in the air-intakes at higher altitudes. Air hogging got massive nerf to the point of being impractical. The diminishing returns of each next air intake are too high. • Since drag is no longer based around the center of Mass, the center of pressure of a craft can change depending on Angle of Attack, leading to behavior the Center of Lift indicator would deem otherwise. • Wing aero is not dependent wing shape and design. To compensate for this, the Lift and Drag values of the wings vary with the Mach of the wings. At low Mach, wings tend to act like they had a high aspect ratio, giving substantial lift but substantial drag. At high Mach they tend to act like low aspect ratio wings, with less drag but less lift. We get the best of both worlds! • Planes can stall now if thrust isn’t sufficient enough to produce lift

Since basically transfering to Steam is just using a Steam Key, I don't know if there is a way to transfer to a different account. As stated above, your best bet is to contact Steam themselves.

YES! Specialist!

Okay i am going to lock this thread for a bit while things cool down. Please focus on the matter at hand; sharing opinions on the fairings rather than sharing opinions on each other. K thx

Public Service Announcement: Dealing with New ISP Calculations!
AmpsterMan replied to Renegrade's topic in KSP1 Discussion
On eof the neat things about this though, is that burn time is the same no matter what because flow rate is the same. That means, you can guesstimate how much a fuel tank would last very easily by just counting how many their are, the capacity of the tank, the flow rate of the engine, the throttle of the engine.... oh wait, that's a lot of stuff. Nvm Seriously though, glad to see this in place. Much more realistic and the changing flow rate in OldAero through me off once I realized real life isn't like that. -
what partnerships would you like KSP/SQUAD to make?
AmpsterMan replied to Dimetime35c's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I want SQUAD to make a deal with Kennedy Space Center so that all of us on here can get reduced rates to go to KSC. Can you just imagine? Like 1k people all going around the visitors' area knowing that many of us are on the forums -
As with most contentious issues, truth is on both sides. On the one hand, Harv can post where ever and whenever he pleases. KSP started in Orbiter and Harv has always identified himself with those people. Furthermore, KSP is sold as is and as such Squad can do as they please without any prior warning. It is up to the consumer to unchech auto update if they do not desire the adverse consequences. On the other hand, The KSP forums are the most "official" place for Squad. Not posting here coukd have been taken as not including a large userbase. Furthermore, the unnaounced nature could/did ruin many individuals' experiences. I won't state my own opinion on this matter, but please bear in mind that there are good points on both sides. Please refrain from flameing, trolling, or flamebaiting.

Does anyone else think 1.0 is coming out tommorow?
AmpsterMan replied to armandleggames's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Honestly people, Experimentals was only JUST announced. No need to discuss this just yet. Closing -
Hello there Bertog and welcome! First off, there is no way to remove the game from steam as far as I know, but there is no need to worry! To find where your KSP install is located, just right click on KSP in your steam library and click properties. Go to the "local files" tab and click "Browse Local Files". I myself just made a shortcut to this folder on my desktop for easy access. This folder is the exact same as the one in the KSP Launcher so all mods are compatible regardless of the store used to purchase it.

Launching a drone from an interior bay?
AmpsterMan replied to Seaberry's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
My apologies for not answering sooner. I've had a lot going on. Yes you can! just do as I explained and then put a radial attachement point on both your craft and your drone. Make sure to map a shortcut to it too! -
Launching a drone from an interior bay?
AmpsterMan replied to Seaberry's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
No free attachment points is a problem. The way I've dealt with this before hand is by making a sub-assembly with a decoupler as the root part, save the actual payload as a sub-assembly. When you import the assembly, the bottom (or top) most part should be able to be attachable. Just make sure the part that you attach the root part to in the drone is radially attachable. ex. in the following image, my the decoupler under my probe part is the root part of the drone sub-assembly in it's own save. by doing that, I was able to couple the science lab to any other decoupler in my following crafts. I was also able to attach it radially as I do in this pic As you can see in this pic, the probe core is the same, but it is attached to radial decouplers. -

If it helps, pressing and holding the "alt" key forces parts that can attach radially to attach only to the big green attachment point. -
I know it's not exactly the point of this thread, but I would like to share anyway. One of the things I have learned in my year and a half of being a mod is that there are so many different personalities in the entire extended community (Forums, Reddit, Twitch, Imgur, 4chins, etc.) and each community has it's own character. The moderator base is actually pretty diverse in that I think one of us at least posts regularly in EACH one of those communities. When it comes to moderating, especially moderating difficult questions, we actually tend to have the exact same flame wars that the forum tends to have xD. (Some may say because we all know each other pretty well, these tend to be more personal too!). These are difficult questions for a reason. I constantly find myself caught between opposing ideals; Order and Liberty. Borderline posts are the ones that I think tend to draw the battle lines the clearest. We constantly have to be checking not only our own tendencies, but those of the other ones that moderate with us. Ex. Some of us find following the "Letter of the Law" to be of paramount importance. Others, the "Spirit of the Law" is more so. All of us stand on "some" side of the contentious issues that constantly come up and we have to constantly put aside our own preferences and come to a consensus. I think our best decisions have been the ones where none of us are completely satisfied. Of course, I also think that many of our worst decisions have left us completely dissatisfied too! xD. It's a constant struggle; one that I've enjoyed because I love this community so much, but one that is so exhausting because it is so large and so diverse. Furthermore, it is my contention that this forum tends to draw a "different" crowd (as opposed to what given no body knows!); a more educated crowd, a smarter crowd, but also a more entitled crowd (entitled in the sense that I wouldn't be surprised if many of us here are amongst the smartest, most capable, or most "heady" of our immediate social group [i recognize this sounds elitist; I agree. I think space travel is awesome and I am glad this game has put so many of us in this elite group {yes I recognize I use many paranthetical sentences}] which leads us to many, many disagreements, and yet to many, many, wonderful accomplishments.) Perhaps I am gushing, but for personal reasons I say that this forum has helped me a lot in my personal life. Having a group with which I can be nerdy about space stuff is fun. NO ONE in my immediate peer group even remotely cares (and that's fine! I like doing other things too!). Ultimately, at least for me, being a mod has helped me appreciate the forum much more than I used to (in all it's myriad ways) and helped me make a group of friends which I cherish. Still though, it's a lot of work! I think most of us put in like ten + hours a week just to make sure stuff is taken care of. Some of us are college students, some of us work full time, some of us do both (me ), some of us are fathers, none of us are mothers. So next time you see your favorite mod post, give him a thumbs up. It really makes our day. And if you don't have a favorite mod, then, well then, um.... I don't like you either Stay Awesome guys, sincerely from the bottom of my heart (Please, don't mind the arteries.)

I have to be honest, I've kinda fallen in love with mine

Ever have a rocket that just grew and grew and grew...
AmpsterMan replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I myself have never really experienced this problem. Since very early on in my career, I would build standard launch vehicles and make my payloads fill the vehicles. -
