  1. I'd much rather see us visit an asteroid in-situ, myself. The budget as it currently stands though means that this asteroid capture mission would probably be the sole result of all post-shuttle efforts... And, there's lots of extra money that has to go into building this one-time use spacecraft to bring the asteroid back. I suppose you could justify that by saying it would help us redirect asteroids in the future but it's not the sort of thing that would scale up very well... the objects it's designed to capture are mostly harmless. In terms of the mission plan, it seems like it would be a far better idea to plant it at L4 or L5, as those points are stable long-term (millions of years, I believe)
  2. I wouldn't really call Mars One a scam so much as a ridiculously optimistic and poorly-conceived project... I'd much rather see money go to Inspiration Mars - that's very simple, and very achievable. And it brings the crew home so it's got some extra inherent public appeal
  3. Not sure how the wiki numbers were gotten, but it should be relatively simple to make a plugin that spits out all the periods for all celestial bodies. I do suspect the Tylo misalignment is actual, though. There's no way to directly lock a planet to be in resonance, so the period has to be set VERY precisely or else it will slowly drift out of sync. And you can't set the period directly! So, you've gotta set the actual orbital radius to be juuuust right so it has the correct period.
  4. The game spits out a period value in seconds for each celestial body, directly calculated based on its orbit.
  5. Oh, you're complaining about stuck wheels? I present you my former most successful and longest-lived rover, til it was superseded by Hyperion
  6. Er, no... they spin it because spinning things are inherently more stable due to gyroscopic effects and it's a cheap and easy way to provide basic attitude control - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attitude_control#Spin_stabilization
  7. I managed to find a way to replace game files...
  8. It functions just like a normal stack separator except it's mounted radially. The decoupler is detached from both sides, leaving no unsightly parts still attached.

  10. As its name says, it's a radially-attached stack separator. NOTE: Decoupling items symmetrically will leave the decoupler with no relative velocity to your spacecraft due to how the decoupler code works, so don't use them for things that will decouple symmetrically and simultaneously (ex. boosters) Download on SpacePort
  11. Mostly it was based around the mass of the Mk1-2 capsule, then slightly reduced to account for an invisible heat shield/RCS system/whatever on the capsule.
  12. You know, I think I'll make this as a mod right now... I will report back shortly.
  13. The Soviets loved their spherical entry capsules. As far as I know, every one of their interplanetary landers has used one (excluding things like fobos-grunt and the luna missions of course) Edit: Not the mars probes actually, seems just the Venera series.
  14. At least in my experience, flags seem to be planted facing towards the right of the camera. Ish.
  15. I'm pretty sure, rryy, that Stupidity does what its name says. Internally it is referred to as "dumb", and I think the higher it is, the more a kerbal will be entertained by things like spinning and explosions. Courage means that these things don't worry him. the BadS tag which isn't shown in the roster means he will be psychotic like jeb.
  16. Accidentally voted wrong. Meant to vote for "Why not".
  17. Be bad at everything I try to do, as was the case when I was on the team so...
