DLC Suggestion: Taking Flight
Wjolcz replied to Bottle Rocketeer 500's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yes. But as a separate game. Though a DLC is also optional so I don't really understand all the people saying it would kill the spirit of this game. Don't like it - don't buy it. Add air races, add all kinds of engines, add multiplayer, maybe weapons, replace all the parts with procedural ones, upscale Kerbin and IMO you would have another bestseller. I would buy a game like this and I've seen a couple of people here on this forum saying they would too (we had a thread about it some time ago). -
Inline mk2 air intake
Wjolcz replied to Numerlor's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You can totally put intakes on sides. Attach a nose cone first, rotate it and attach the intake. -
For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Wjolcz replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Why do big galaxies appear globular? Is it because they have their disc hidden and closer to the core? -
What's the point of Moon Station anyway? I haven't questioned it until I read the article. More radiation? Newer technology? If the answer is more radiation why not use more shielding? If it's the technology: I thought humans have landed there already? It just feels like it's a step back not forward. And I know it's about staying there for longer than 2 days but then: why not bury the base in regolith?

Building the Future, logical next DLC?
Wjolcz replied to NSEP's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
But... all of this you described are just a bunch of mods. -
Orbital mirrors and a station over Titan. Not my favourite.

Alternative sugg. to stock dV readout debate
Wjolcz replied to Spraki's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Either have actual numbers or let a mod do the job. Any 'middle ground' idea is bad IMO. Having a "This might get to the Mun" text is no better than nothing at all. There are much more complex manouvers to perform in KSP than just from-A-to-B Hohmann transfers. -
Stock Game not very fun without Delta-V & TWR readout
Wjolcz replied to Kobymaru's topic in KSP1 Discussion
But I thought the game is meant to be played this way! It was intentional! And besides, it's a fully released game! How can a fully released game not have everything that should let you play it without getting frustrated!? dV and TWR tools were meant to be implemented into the game long time ago. The team said "It's coming" then there was the "shmelta-vee" announcement and soon after that the team member who tweeted it got mysteriously fired aaaaaaand from then on I haven't seen anything hinting that the tools are coming. There were also some intellectual property issues (if I understand that correctly: can't have KER code in the core game) but then we have more than one dV mods so who the hell knows what the actual rules of that are. Anyway, it would be more than good to have it stockified. It's a very important and essential tool and the game is nearly unplayable without calculations like that. -
Made this one for my phone because I was fed up with all the unrealistic photoshoped space wallpapers. And I also wanted something simple and minimalistic.

J1407b from today.

Who's upset about this? Even if you don't like it it will eventually fall back and burn up. Even if it collided with something else the debris WILL fall back to Earth and burn up. I don't think a crash with another object would kick it into a higher non-dragy (is this even a word?) orbit to stay there and cascade. I like the idea of it. Looking at objects like that can inspire people. I remember when I saw my first satellite and I was all in awe thinking "It's really there. So far up and yet I can still see it." Simple stuff like this really can change you in a way. Maybe if it wasn't for that one moment years ago I wouldn't be so excited about every F9 launch nowadays? Who knows?

Multiplayer in KSP 1.8
Wjolcz replied to popos1's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'd rather see a stock dV indicator and some sort of alarm clock in the game than MP. MP would be good if this game didn't have time warp. So maybe a server would consist of one planet/moon and then people would build stuff and drive/hop/fly around without any time compression. Otherwise it would be pointless, boring and probably painful to play. Either that or every person is one member of the crew of the same ship. -
That doesn't really answer my question. But then I guess I won't really get the answer before the thing flies or they announce what the plan is. I also just remembered the booster will be built on Florida. So no significant payload from the west coast could be launched. Eh, seems like assuming it will travel through the Panama Canal via boat is the most sensible bet for now.
-
How about a launch from west coast? It could only go polar orbit, deploy whatever it needs to deploy, reenter, land near BC/Florida to be relaunched from there to an orbit with a different inclination. Now, the only problem is they would need a water-based launch platform (since the official SpaceX video suggests it would launch that way anyway). AFAIK they are not planning to build anything like that anywhere near the factory in Hawthorne. So a floating factory that is also a launch pad? There's also Vandenberg but I don't even want to know how much modification the launch pad would need. It would probably be easier and cheaper to build a floating one (the factory?). Besides, It makes sense that they keep the Vandenberg launch site the way it is for F9 and FH. Another thing is how would the reentry be treated if it's over the continent. If I'm not mistaken Stardust reentered over a desert? And if it was aiming for the Mexican Bay/Atlantic even if it broke up during reentry the debris would fall into the water so it wouldn't matter if the reentry was performed over inhabited areas or not.

about the launchpads and runways...
Wjolcz replied to Dimas152's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm fine with it as it is. -
Something like that

Two from today.

Do you guys think BFS might do orbital hops from LA to Florida, or at least to the Mexican Bay? If they are building a factory on water near Hawthorne then they will either have to transport it by water to Boca Chica/Florida (through Panama canal?) or simply fly it. Knowing their tendency to do R&D whenever possible to save time and costs that would be a great opportunity to do R&D AND transport the BFSs to the launch site. Basically partially flight-proving them before refuelling and putting on boosters. The only problem is it would have to fly over the continental US and AFAIK that's a big no. Russians do it (and sometimes drop the boosters on villages) but they don't really have much choice. Now since BFS would be hopping and landing in one piece they might allow it to fly over relatively unpopulated areas, no?

BRING BACK MK1-2 MODULE
Wjolcz replied to Dr. Jeb's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
And everything else because there's never enough statues. -
Here's a simple mission. You have to go to a crater rim and back. Or have some fun flying and then go back. The mod list is kind of long and in the description but IIRC the only ones you'll need are Ven's stock part revamp and Airplanes Plus. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1l8qhPtjdvMMHl0aIkX84QidE74xy3wnR?usp=sharing

BRING BACK MK1-2 MODULE
Wjolcz replied to Dr. Jeb's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Don't. The old fairing textures were horrible and the MK1-2 pod was rarely used because of how awful its mass and off-center model was. -
Wolfhound & Cheetah engine thrust off-center
Wjolcz replied to Tyko's topic in Making History Discussion
I've noticed that with Wolfhound too. When I flew a very simple probe to orbit it just went nuts and started spinning like crazy. Thought it was a gimbal issue so I turned it down but then I ran out of fuel and I haven't had a chance to check it since yesterday. -
In my mind it's a part of Dyson swarm except smaller, harvesting the rings and in orbit of a terrestrial planet with two moons.
