How dare you suggesting something that exists in real life! This game is meant to be Kerbal! Hurrrrrrrrrrrr!
-
I'd prefer to not having any more bars. I assume you mean like bars as in status bars, where certain amount of points needs to be accumulated in order to progress? That could be completed with a sane tree as well. What would be ideal is a "tree" that looks like the one in War Thunder. It has multiple starts and each branch is (sort of) themed. That's how IMO the stock tech tree should look like. Wings with wings, SRBs eith SRBs, batteries with batteries, etc.

Contract suggestion - restrictions on missions
Wjolcz replied to Sresk's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Noooo... Contracta are already horrible enough. Adding even more restrictions to them would be a bad thing. -
The problem is I don't need the whole post quoted. Only parts of it.

Science Alert Alternative?!
Wjolcz replied to sp1989's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'd prefer if science experiments were constantly active. That way we wouldn't need any alerts and they would gather "data" (AKA unlock points) every time a vessel opens a new biome. They eat EC when active anyway. -
Oh, you mean that. Well, there wouldn't be a problem since the reputation itself fluctuates. Less rep means less funds. More rep, more funds. It's pretty simple. As long as you gather science/do missions/research parts your rep should stay high enough to keep your program running. The 10:1 ratio was just example. It doesn't have to be the exact numbers. It's true that you can't measure NASA's reputation, but in KSP you can, because it's a game.

NOOOO MY LENGHTY POST DIDN'T SAVE!!! Anyway, the idea was that if money didn't reset each month players could easily accumulate large amounts of money by warping while keeping the minimum amount of space center crew. But that wouldn't be the case if reputation dropped over time (only if the player kept being passive or didn't have any programs active), since warping for a long time would grant less and less money. It's kind of hard to balance, I guess. Dunno. Have to think about it. I'm open to suggestions.

Ok it seems it kind of works (the "Quote this" speech bubble moves around) and only sometimes.
-
That wouldn't be a problem if the budget reset each month/year. Basically, you a new month just started. Let's call it Month One. You have 120 REP. Because the month just started it grants you money based on your rep, which is 1200 FUNDS. You do a bunch of missions before Month One is over and end up with 500 REP. Your FUNDS reset to 5000 FUNDS (because you have 500 REP and 1 REP = 10 FUNDS). That's what programs would be for. How would that work (ideally): You have 100 REP. That grants you 1000 FUNDS (1 REP = 10 FUNDS) per month. You activate an exploration program and that gives you (let's say) +1000 extra FUNDS no matter how much rep you have. The numbers here are obviously nowhere near the minimum amount you need to launch a rocket, but that's to only show how the system would work.

So how you quote people on mobile is touch and hold a part of the text in the post you want to quote until the whole part is blue aka highlighted and then tap it. After that a black text cloud appears saying "Quote this". Except it doesn't work anymore for some reason. Am I the only one experiencing this?

Except "science" in KSP isn't even any kind of science. It's just "unlock points". And the worst thing is that SQUAD made a decision to force people to go places in order to progress and yet most of them don't even leave Kerbin's SOI because all the science to unlock the tree can be gathered on Mun and Minmus. I would love to gather actual scientific data that could boost the funding for my space program, but the game doesn't allow for that. That's the problem with design choices made by SQUAD. They could create a great unlocking system, but instead decided that a bunch of systems poorly stitched together is good enough and now that everyone got used to it there's no reason it should be changed. Oh, how I love the mobile version of this forum: "I like the system they have going right now, my only issue is that a player will reach their best science-collecting potential only after the science collecting is done. I like collecting science, I just want to be able to unleash my full science collecting potential and still have collecting science be worth something." As I said above: if there was a proper unlocking mechanism in place since the dawn of the career mode people wouldn't be forced to collect the unlock points (aka pseudo-science) to progress. Not everyone wants to do science all the time. Money+time=tech, science=reputation and reputation=money is the best solution, as it would allow people to pick one of the three paths: Commercial mode, Government funding and Progression through science. Right now there's only one: "Unlock Points Mode and Side Quests" mode. You can't progress the way you want. You have to collect science. Not everyone wants to do that.

Experiment status indicator lights
Wjolcz replied to The_Rocketeer's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Would be better if they made them store data all the time whenever they have enough EC to do keep stayibg active instead of forcing us to spam click the heck out of multiple experiments of the same kind. -
That would make sense as long as science points don't unlock the parts. Waiting for science points to build up just to unlock another node would be annoying. IMO they should gather science (in a form of graphs and photos) that grants reputation.

I agree. It's such a shame NovaSilisko stopped working with SQUAD. He had so many great ideas and planet concepts. I also think we should think more in the micro scale instead of talking about higher mountains and deeper canyons: IMO there should be a microscope part (much like the ones Curiosity rover has) that would be able to snap pictures of microscopic objects (sand grains, rocks and microbes). Each biome would have their own type of soil and its contents. I think such a discovery mechanic could give more meaning to rovers (and experiments themselves) and encourage the surface exploration. Another idea would be to give simple minigames. If you've played Starbound you know there are fossils to be discovered everywhere around the universe. I think that a simple minigame similar to the one that accompanies the fossils' discovery would be pretty fun. For example heating the sample for certain amounts of time, or hitting it with different types of radiation. I'm not an expert, but I think this game could be a great teaching tool instead of being wacky in most aspects. Don't know about others, but I find myself exploring caves just to find these and I have a lot of fun doing so.

Color filters for KSP
Wjolcz replied to qromodynmc's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Might be a cool thing if you couple it with the Historian mod. BUT I also think if cameras ever make their way into the stock game they should totally have the ability to do that. 60-like photos, black and white, UV light only, infrared, x-ray and all those cool things that are being used in telescopes. -
Now the only thing that's missing is the ability to share craft files between saves.

Awesome!

I propose introduce two new game modes into the stock game. First one is "Ultimate Sandbox", in which you can spawn, warp much like you can do with HyperEdit and load vessels from other game saves to basically test them out in different conditions. Something like this is apparently coming in 1.2. The second one would be "Government Mode". It's basically what I have in my sig, so if you are interested in having reputation that influences your annual/monthly budget, I'd recommend you go and read the whole thread. It's only a few pages long and many great suggestions from other people are there. Deliver me that and I'll never again complain about the current state of career mode.
-
I wouldn't mind having some sort of "ultimate sandbox" mode in which you can warp and spawn wherever you want. Much like you can do with HyperEdit.

Better Career Mode
Wjolcz replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Sliders! -
Is there a mod that allows for creation of contracts bit by bit? Ideally you would pick a target body -> biome -> the actions you want to perform there (science experiments, samples, stations, bases and things like that). I know there's the Contract Configurator by @nightingale, but it requires you to mess around in the text files and what I would like to see is an in-game editor.

That'd be called a proper career, not a quasi career mode that offers you random objectives all the time.
