Poll: Are you buying the "Making History" DLC?
Nobody_1707 replied to Yakuzi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I would have phrased option 2 as, "No, I'm getting it for free since I bought KSP before May 2013", but I'm weird. -
Kerbal Space Shuttle and rocket Economics
Nobody_1707 replied to KerikBalm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No, he's exactly right. My dad was an industrial engineer over at the Michoud facility where they built the external tanks. NASA ran the shuttle solely to burn tax dollars. Any real work that the shuttle accomplished was strictly incidental. The Orion is the same way as evidenced by the fact that they refused to use the pre-existing 40m fabrication tools, despite repeated urging to do so from the people who have to actually build the rockets, until after they'd been in storage for so long that they needed to be completely replaced. -
So long, Frizzank, and thanks for all the fish the amazing mod.

Is that Spike Spiegel's spaceplane in your sig? O_O Color me impressed. What mods did you use for it? On topic: I'm mostly playing a lot of LoL right now, but I'm thinking of maybe doing an all stock low part count lifter for the challenge. Can't wait till the update.

[KSP v1.1.3] Stock Bug Fix Modules (Release v1.1.3b.1 - 10 Jul 16)
Nobody_1707 replied to Claw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I love you, Claw. -
Should I invest time in learning 1.0.2 aero?
Nobody_1707 replied to A_name's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You can actually asparagus stage with only one set of boosters you know, and honestly, the lower thrust after dropping a booster should be made up by the lower mass after dropping a booster. A couple of pairs of asparagus staged boosters hardly cause any drag at all, anyway. -
But having aero is easier to fly in than the old pea soup. Just set heating down to nothing.

[KSP v1.1.3] Stock Bug Fix Modules (Release v1.1.3b.1 - 10 Jul 16)

Cool, I can't wait to see where this goes in the future. -
Woohoo! He's back! HYPE!

I'd rather scale up the Kerbol system 6.4x and rebalance the rockets appropriately for that scale than make the physics for reentry heating less realistic just to add challenge.
-
Due to the ludicrously small size of Kerbin, being able to make a Munar return without a heatshield quite realistic from a physics perspective. Things like this are why RSS was created in the first place. I'm not sure about the shuttle, but I can only assume it's much, much lighter than an actual shuttle.

NathenKell was speaking of the jet engines having 10x the ISP of real jet engines, he said nothing in that passage of SSTOs.

Does it still count as stock if the only mod one has installed is the unofficial bugfix mod?

For everyone who needs the hotfix now, and can't what for SQUAD to finish there's, click on my sig.

I remember them cutting themselves if you deployed at very high velocity back in 0.90, but that might have been FAR. I was rather disappointed that they didn't do that in 1.0. Still, the 1.0 release just got some of my friends interested in KSP, so mission accomplished there.

Am I the only "Glass half full" guy around here?
Nobody_1707 replied to MrZayas1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My position on the graph should be (-2, 2). Rarely posts, except in short bursts, a little bit of a blind fanboy. -
The fairing base not loosing weight upon jettisoning the fairings is the real bug here. The massless fairings are merely a, very odd, design choice.

Whackjob KSP Youtube series? Gauging interest.

Nobody_1707 replied to MrZayas1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
While it's still not 100% perfect in OS X, I've had the least amount of problems with this version than any previous version. And even if there had been more problems, I doubt anything Squad could break now could ever possibly be as bad as the old 0.14 - 0.16 days when the updater didn't work at all and when it did you still had to chmod +x the executable manually. -
-
If SRB's had gimbal, I would have been able to reach orbit with just an RT-10, a small capsule, and a parachute using 0.90 FAR.

The new aero basically is NEAR though, the interesting changes are in the heat system (which previously only existed in KSP Interstellar). - - - Updated - - - Wackjob, can I have the craft file for that? EDIT: Whoever designed this forum is a BadS flipping genius! Instead of letting me accidentally double post, it just edited my previous post to include the new content! -
Sweet. I wasn't expecting ISP to scale down that far.
