  2. Not working. When I try to start KLFClient.exe I just get the spinny mouse cursor loading icon thing but the client won't start. It also freezes the File Explorer window and the only way to unfreeze it is to kill the explorer.exe process. I'm running Windows 10. It used to work earlier but for some reason it won't anymore. It also did this in 1.0.5. Running it as admin or in Win7 compatibility mode doesn't work either. I also checked Event Viewer but it's showing no errors.
  3. I collided an Earth-sized dense rock asteroid with Earth itself at 72 km/s and a 90 degree impact angle. "Up to 90 percent of trees blown down", but hey, at least 10% of them survived! 10/10 would collide an asteroid with Earth again
  4. Not for gaming, no. But it's useful for when I'm in a hurry and need to look something up because I have it installed on an SSD and it only takes a few seconds to start up. If/when most games have Vulkan support and actually run properly, I'll most likely start using Linux as my primary OS.
  5. You could take one of these: And mount it "sideways" (top of the stick points towards you instead of up) on a pair of (wheeled) drawer rails with strong springs to return it to the center position. Then replace the two big buttons with heavy duty microswitches, one in front of the moving part and one behind it so that they're activated when you push the stick forward or pull it back. What you'll end up with is a 6-axis translation control like the ones used on real spacecraft. For extra realism, replace the spherical knob with a T-shaped one.
  6. A few more days at most. I say it's gonna be tomorrow. We'll see.
  7. Dres is just a boring grey space rock in the middle of nowhere. Duna is much more interesting and it's closer to Kerbin, and if you've got the dV to get to Dres you might as well go to Jool or any of its moons since it takes roughly the same amount of dV thanks to aerobraking and gravity assists. Hell, you can even get to Eeloo for the same dV!
  8. It's more stable on Windows as well - on my machine, at least. I've been using the 64bit workaround for the last 6 months or so and it hasn't crashed once. 32bit used to crash quite frequently when running a lot of mods, even if I wasn't hitting the 3.4GB memory limit. Also, yay, FAR and KJR will finally be updated to 64bit which means I'll be able to run Realism Overhaul with all the optional goodies installed! So hyped Ermahgerd 400 posts!
  9. Hopefully that cargo transport thing means there'll be some sort of trading system in the game. Would also be nice if you could hire NPCs to work for you or otherwise affect the economies and relations of star systems and planets. Nothing would be cooler than having thousands upon thousands of players start building their own little empires somewhere in the galaxy, then slowly expanding them until they start connecting with each other and forming larger regions of known and controlled space where all those empires can work with or against each other to reach their goals. Think EVE Online, but billions of times bigger. Space politics on a galactic scale. That would literally be the best thing ever.
  10. Except that sitting right in front of a TV and using a VR headset aren't the same. Unlike a TV, a VR headset has lenses that make it possible for your eyes to be completely relaxed, i.e. focused to infinity, as if you were looking at a distant object. In terms of eye strain, using a VR headset isn't any more harmful than looking at ships way out in the ocean or stars in the night sky. I'm not denying the possibility of eye damage, but it would happen for completely different reasons.
  11. My local shopping mall. Ridiculously loud bang. The window of the shop next to me shatters into a million pieces. Thank goodness it was laminated glass. Scared the crap outta me though.
  12. They would form a new race called Asuran and start destroying human worlds in an attempt to starve the Wraith to death.
  13. There's nothing particularly funny about my main rig so I'm going to use my old computer for this: ASUS G50V laptop, I think it's 7 or 8 years old already. Can barely run Windows Vista so I'm using Kubuntu as the primary OS. CPU fan bearing jammed so I removed the plastic bottom plate that covers the CPU cooling system, put it on top of a plastic storage basket, ziptied a 120mm fan to the side of the basket (left side in the picture, it's hidden behind the plastic edge thing) and connected it to an adjustable 12V power supply. It's a super ghetto solution but it does the job! It's been like this for several years now and it's still working. It won't run anything else than board games and maybe some really simple 3d stuff (not because the fan is broken but because the computer is so old already) but it's more than sufficient for web browsing and programming which are the things I use it for the most. In normal desktop use, it's not much faster than my Raspberry Pi 2 B and I suspect the Pi 3 B running Raspbian might actually perform better. I'm probably going to get one just because I want to see how big (or small) of a difference it is.
  14. This can be done with SteamCMD, Steam's command line interface. Download/install it, then run it and do these commands: login "username" (Without quotes, replace "username" with your Steam username. It'll then ask for your password, enter it and it'll log you onto Steam) force_install_dir "path" (Again, without quotes - replace "path" with the path to a folder you want SteamCMD to download the game to) app_update 220200 @sSteamCmdForcePlatformType macos validate (220200 is KSP's App ID, the next command forces it to download the OS X version of KSP, and validate makes sure all the files downloaded correctly and are not corrupted) You should now have the OS X version of KSP in the folder you specified in the force_install_dir command. You can also substitute the "macos" in the ForcePlatformType command with "windows" or "linux" to download windows and linux builds, respectively. This works on all three platforms and for any Steam application, all you need is the App ID of the application you want to download. They can be found on SteamDB.
  15. Use a dolly: And combine it with a semi trailer like this: That way you get the maneuverability of a semi trailer and the stability of a trailer that also has wheels at the front. The hinged coupling between the trailer and the dolly allows them to rotate relative to each other. Use a rigid connection between the dolly and the tractor if you want something that's easier to reverse or make that a pivoting connection as well if you want to make it a bit more maneuverable.
  16. GTA V and modded Minecraft using a custom modpack I built. I might try Factorio, it looks kinda interesting.
  17. A normal elevator but with a hydraulic braking system (it should obviously have a traditional braking system as a backup). Attach the cables to the end of a piston moving inside a long, fluid filled cylinder. The piston would have holes in it so it can still move but the fluid creates a lot of resistance. Spring loaded bypass valves would be open during normal operation to allow the fluid to easily move from one side of the cylinder to the other but would automatically close in case of a malfunction, thus activating the braking system and safely lowering the elevator to the bottom floor. It's 100% gravity and spring powered so it will never get stuck between floors unless something's physically preventing the elevator from moving. The doors (both inner and outer doors) should have a lever that disconnect them from the motor mechanism or open a bypass valve in the pneumatic/hydraulic system so that they can be opened manually once the elevator has reached the bottom floor.
  18. Shout and bang on the walls until someone hears you and gets help? If the elevator is a model where the elevator car itself doesn't have a front wall/door (the doors are static and mounted on the wall of the elevator shaft), you can probably stick something through the gap between the door and the doorframe and wave it around to get people's attention, or write something on it push it all the way through so it falls on the floor where someone will see it. Or try to trip a smoke alarm with cigarettes or a burning piece of paper or something. How the hell does one get stuck in an elevator for a month anyway? Someone's going to notice it's not working and contact maintenance. A maintenance team might not arrive for a while but any professional elevator company would send someone to check the situation asap to make sure nobody's in the elevator. It's highly unlikely you'd be stuck in there for more than half a day.
  19. This is everything you need to know about EVE Online. It's like a drug, it seems fun at first but soon gets incredibly frustrating and makes you feel like [REDACTED], and when that happens you're already past the point of no return - it just keeps pulling you back in no matter how hard you try to quit. I've been playing since Feb 2014 and I've lost count of how many times I burned out trying to make enough ISK so I could do the things I wanted to do and stopped playing for a few months. Once you get stuck in that never-ending cycle it's nearly impossible to get out. I didn't - I subscribed again a few weeks ago
  20. Not yet, but I just got a job so I'll probably wait until 1.1 is out and then upgrade my rig a bit. And by "a bit" I mean I'll probably end up building a completely new one... I need more RAM for KSP, my current CPU and motherboard are 5 years old already (and I broke the locking mechanism on the PCI-E slot so the little screw is the only thing holding the GPU on), PSU's cables are way too short (had to get really creative with them and it looks horrible), and the case is too small. Not sure about the GPU, I kinda want to get a GTX 980/980Ti but I also want to wait for the new 1000 series Nvidias. At least I can sell some of the old components for a few hundred euros.
