  1. My helicopters have more lifting power than the sum of the jet engines, but also the durability. I once circumnavigated Kerbin by plane and once with a catamaran which could drive as well. Both propeller driven. But they are bulky, heavy and produce a lot of drag. What I'd expect to build with robotics are heli's with proper cyclic/collective with durability and low part count. The examples that exist are very fragile and have a terrible part count.
  2. This recording of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart suddenly became relevant 50 years later.
  3. Time to inject some fresh words into this topic before it exits to the digital netherworld. Have you guys been doing anything new lately? I don't have plans except updating old designs to the new version. But I'm very excited with the possibilities the new DLC will bring.
  4. And the game could use an update purely focused on optimization. If some of you may recall, the early beta's of 1.2 were incredibly fast with high part counts. That is ... until they added all these extra features and never bothered to optimize again. Great, all these new features but since single core CPU power won't be increasing much anymore, every new feature is slowing the game down thus making it less playable for an increasing amount of people. I've bought my 7700K in 11/17. Moore's Law is dead and buried for sure. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
  5. Changing the parameters to make stuff explode easier is simple. Changing them to make them more solid as well. But just changing them without considering the wonderful marketing potential of such krakentech just because the values are not in line with the rest ... There are players who never go to space. There are people who build krakentech and are on the forefront of promotion. There are people who get that extra attention (EJ_SA on Twitch for example) because they do more than building a standard rocket. KSP is old. You need new people who can be amazed with outrageous stuff because frankly ... once you've seen one Saturn V or Space Shuttle replica ... you've seen all of them. And how do you think I got almost 7500 points on this forum ... playing the game as it was meant to be? Quite the opposite. I haven't played career since 2014. And it's not points I'm after. I hope to inspire. Excellent.
  6. Interesting. The vernor and RCS ball have a 15m/s impact rating now. Although it's more realistic, it does effectively kill off any future development of a lot of technical ideas. No turboshaft engines, no gears, no piston engines etc. To give you an example: Those hardcore technical things are a niche but Tory Bruno (CEO United Launch Alliance) loved it when I showed him this GIF. What's your opinion, @klond?
  7. Helicopter guy here. Gears in KSP are very difficult to get right but can be done. Most often you'll have the big limitation of collider interactions per second. Too many calculations and the system will produce errors. This means rotor/engine speeds need to be low to the absurd. This means a huge rotor and a very powerful engine. However ... you can build stock helicopters without the need for gears, if that's your thing.
  8. I agree with this idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioisotope_thermoelectric_generator#Criteria_for_selection_of_isotopes
  9. Report, stock parts. All flights started and ended on the KSC. At first I tried with my multi-role fighter but then discovered I needed even more control at very low speeds. So I made a smaller version with the same wing surface area. First stop: Baikerbanur. Went on to the Crater Rim. And the North Station. It was time to head home. This picture was taken after landing and a Hyperedit refuel. Out of time, off to work. I'll finish the report when I get home.
  10. Thanks! There are actually two issues with that Unity upgrade. Here's both of them: https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/19231 https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/19232
  11. I am not at all happy with this. Ever since 1.4 there has been a bug report about the changed wheel grip values which has been ignored since day one, but which has effected a huge amount of users (and in my case: 100+ craft). However the shock absorbers, which are actually less important, get the treatment within a few weeks.
  12. I made IR emitters, sensors, capacitors, transistors and injectors out of rocket engines and the ISRU.
  13. Unfortunately it's not that easy. Some of the latest turbines use the atmospheric science thingy as turbine blades, which don't expand.
  14. Excellent work! Are you using RCS balls as root for some of your subassemblies? This would explain the 7 rad/s limit. The mass of the RCS balls is added to a root. If heavier parts are connected to a RCS ball, KSP/Unity does strange things (I once had a truck door floating in mid air after decoupling).
  15. If you have some sound files, I'll be glad to add them. The sirens themselves can be placed on any craft, changing pitch is done by changing thrust. The mod should be compatible with the most recent versions because I made it through part file edits and a legacy module. No custom models were used but this might change.
  16. Wut? You're saying there are multiple types of game developers? Oh no ... I always saw them as übertalented semi-machines capable of coding while texturing while drinking their tiny amounts of Jolt cola - because they don't need more. I think I'll find a cave then. Not worthy.
  17. Because my car has active suspension to cancel body roll (it beats the 2017 McLaren 675LT in the Swedish Moose test) I was interested if I could make something like this with stock KSP. Here I present to you my 77 Industries Anti-Roll Experiment, built into my Lowell XT. Testing was done at 60m/s and 2G lateral force. The anti-roll system works but because of the way KSP handles wheels, the increase in cornering speed was minimal (2.1 vs 1.9 G's). So I won't be building this into my cars.
  18. Didn't see a link to the video. So ... Squad/T2 ... please read the comments on that video as well. Summoning @JPLRepo to spread the massage (pun intended). Even on the largest unofficial FB group they're talking about this video. T2: you guys have deep pockets and this is a title with a bright future, maybe just not mere the niche of space exploration. The editor is the game's main selling point. Invest some more money. Even better: buy Unity and fix thát.
  19. Today I continued work on my 2-cylinder 4-stroke engine, which was on the shelf since July. Stock + DLC. Massive improvements in reliability and sturdiness. And I've finally got the valves working. It doesn't run on its own power yet, I need to tweak the timing a lot.
  20. You might like my little mod. https://spacedock.info/mod/1081/Sirens
  21. Very cool! I'll take a look some day.
