I've been playing this game for a while now(since the only place to go was the moon). most players like me have all recreated the famed Apollo 11 mission. I'm not a huge history buff. And I don't pour over Wikipedia pages researching every detail (don't beat me up to bad if I didn't get the TWR or fuel weights right on every stage )but I think I made a pretty decent approximation. Being that I been playing a while now and only just started getting active on the forums I thought I would start sharing. * Part count sits at 379 * The first stage is a monster so launch at 66% throttle then ease the throttle up to full. * Taper throttle back as you reach 200ms * Turn off SAS as you start your gravity turn at 10,000m * When docking with the LEM just hit action group "1". That will decouple the CSM, remove the top of the side fairings and turn on the lights installed inside the shroud under the LEM to aid in docking. * Action group "2" is for solar panels on the CSM. * This craft was designed built and tested with Kerbal Joint Reinforcement. If you don't have KJR you are bad, and should feel bad. Just kidding:D, but seriously you should download that. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55657-0-23-Kerbal-Joint-Reinforcement-v1-7-1-18-14-v2-0x2-experimental-available%21 . Thank you Mr ferram4. You bring a kind of sensibility to this game like no other modder. * (Craft) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1NeorjKSyhBVlcySzhLa3p2MlU/edit?usp=sharing If you like it, love it, hate it or just don't care. Feel free to praise me, stalk me, beat me up or "meh" respectively.

Yeah that curve had been bothering me. I just took care of it. That puts me at 379 parts. I can run that on my 5 year old laptop. The bottom part of the top fairing stays on but the top doesn't come off in two pieces (I can live with that). Thanks for the compliment. All that's needed now is a test run. I got work tomarrow so it will have to wait. BTW I'm really jealous of that N1. -

Just putting the final touches on my micro Apollo 11. There still are a few tweeks to make. I'm having trouble with the composite tanks on the second stage holding together. About 330 parts right now. Lots of good replicas out there. I'm not sure if I'll bother putting a craft file out. What do you guys think? -

Well if editor extensions lets you make anything surface attachable, maybe you could use some landing gear for bay door hinges. And yeah, making a stock Grimoire was almost easy. She flies nice. made it back to orbit no problem. Thomwin and herdous kerman would like to come out and take a better look at the beautiful craft. Unfortunately, the hatch is obstructed -

As for my WIP. I decided to begin work on a stock version of my Grimoire lander. -

200 Tons to Oribit
Genolution replied to thepackett's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Two words. "Thrust Plate". Your boosters are probably shearing off as forces are pushing down on the center stacks and lifting up on the outer stacks as they gain better thrust to weight ratio as they burn fuel. To combat this I employ thrust plate technology with I beams and panels that sits on top of my boosters and under the payload. In this pic I put up 7 full orange tanks and the orange tank on my last booster still had all it's fuel left for a total of 307 tons into a 100km orbit. Not only do they provide a stable platform to spread out the thrust but its very easy to secure your payload on top of the plate with struts and girders. -
Mini N1-L3, Russian Moon Rocket
Genolution replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I just tried the Mini N1-L3 (with .23). I am very impressed. The launch stages held together firm. I made it to 100km orbit on my first try with fuel to spare in third stage and I was practically air hogging I hung around the atmosphere on a flat trajectory so long stress testing . I didn't even need to toggle gimbaling. The lander/LOK was very good looking and functional. Some designs for pure function don't perform so well. Out of all the craft I have downloaded this ties for 1st place with mulbins Duna LK. Thanks for the ride. -
I was just about to start making the Ares. Yours is so good I no longer want to. You did it right.

(necro but still relevant) I cant believe this ts is still active. Three cheers for Majiir! -
Thank you Kommitz, these are really good. I think I'm with you on making these methane nuclear rockets. In fact I'm already modifying the cfg's This gives your parts a very good niche to be in. I'm just not sure how good I want them to be in the atmosphere.

I thought it would have been nice to have a simple flag to plant for my first mun landing. It's always the tiny details for me.

I havent used mods at all yet. but I'm sure one day I will want to dock with other ships and stations, and grab some new gear for my rockets. but I'm of a mind that the game should present to me a challenge above all else. so I dont think ill be using ultra powerfull rockets and tiny fuel tanks with millions of gallons in them. but I may have to take a look at that protractor thingy soon as i plan my trip to mars. after all, I dont have a team of astronomers and physists planing my optimal trajectory. and really I dont feel mech jeb is cheating as some would say simply because the apollo astronaughts had all the same info and automation available.

Welcome Anthony, I'm pretty new here as well. And in my short time here I have learned alot. I think you will find this community active and very helpfull.

Yeah, I made it back safe and sound went back and made a few tweeks and now I'm out of kerbin orbit with no fuel lol. I'm thinking rescue mission. got a lot to figure out

I was playing EVE Online when a guy first told me about KSP. His discription was vague and unintresting but i gave it a look anyways. Boy was I glad I did. I purchased the full game before I even tried the demo when I seen an active forum and modding community I knew it was safe to have high hopes for this game. Last night after I downloaded I played around with making a space plane. Tonight I made a simple two stage solid rocket and I am currently 75,000m above kerbel enjoying the view from space. I'm pretty sure I can't reenter the atmosphere without burning up, but I got half a tank of liqiud left on my module and im gonna go for it. I knew I should have fit that pilot assist thingy as im now spinning wildly Anyways, I thought I'd come on and say hello to all you since I'm positive I'll be around for a while. God I love this game!!
