Gravitional...? Whats that? Yes, capsule is required. I´ve tested my version of Flea and decided to drop requirements: Probe body is not needed (does probe body provide more stability than standard capsule when SAS is on, even without SAS module on? - if yes, keep it with probe body. Big docking port is not needed My version at 12 parts which landed at Tylo from 30km orbit and got back to 30km orbit with fuel to spare. I could possibly get to 11 parts ditching that one RCS tank.
-
Early days of my space program were on verge of genocide... Launch escape... What? Space program has its inherent and inseparable character no matter if it is on earth or on Kerbin.
-
We need a small low gravity lander with at least number of parts possible, carrying one Kerbal to surface of Jools low gravity moons. It will be carried to moons low orbit docked to a mothership Lets call it Flea Specs: Crew of one Big docking port attachment RCS maneuvering for docking Low part count (SAS is not required) Probe body remote control Low weight Enough fuel to land from low orbit (50km) and to ascent up and dock to mothership again Optional version: Carrying a micro-rover like Mulbins Duna LK1 does
-
Well, I think more kerbals died as a matter of poorly constructed ships than will ever die by a cause of military action...
-
Daze: Well, have you seen how crowded it is getting round Laythe these days? From list of ships I´ve put up it may look like military presence is kinda big, but if everything goes well the will just sit in orbits or on stations doing nothing... Edit: Well, doing nothing is not exactly healthy for military personel, so the will be flying all kinds of excersise and scouting missions inside Joolian system. I found in my inteligence dossier for today some disturbing pictures, taken over orbit of Tylo, that might answer this question:
-
I already have bee launcher And as a matter of fact I have 2 grubs on my old Wasp launch and Jool drive stage - which is going to Laythe anyway, so we will have grubs there
-
Ok, Hive torpedo carrier looks like I´ve pictured it I dont´t see need for Damkina Mk.II at the moment, since current version can be refited in orbit to perform similar tasks. Some pictures of todays SSTO testing: And competing craft - already Laythe tested:
-
Very interesting indeed... Well, 1950s and early 60s were time when nothing was impossible. Watching the documentary closely, you´ll see, that military aplication was that lifted the program Orion up and then it was what buried Orion, because JFK was sane enough to avoid arms race with soviet union... Nobody wanted fleets of nuclear warships in orbit... I said it a lot and I will say it again - end of the cold war killed massive progress in space program...

[0.19.1] "Stargazer" Segmented Orbital Antenna Array
Tada replied to Temstar's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
My impressions: Launching was pretty easy, but I did mistake somwhere and I had to use some of the array fuel to get circuralized. I´ve tried undocking and docking back with one satelite dish - it was hard... I´m glad for that pre-fab But possibility of replacing damaged segments its great! Only two questins are remaining for me - will be my mothership powerful (have enought dV) to push it to Laythe? And what is the best placement of arrays for Kerbin-Laythe com-link? -
Ok, looking forward to see what you came up with! At the time until "Saphire" is established I´m testing some new SSTOs, ground fuel refueling system for these and of course Temstars huge antena array

[0.19.1] "Stargazer" Segmented Orbital Antenna Array
Tada replied to Temstar's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Wow... I guess I skip lunch today and go try this! -
Well, lets hope save won´t brake... At leas lets hope that at least the craft files won´t brake. In case save file will break, but craft files remains ok, I think that editing crafts back to orbits where they were would be legit... Mining operations are in plan - outer moons of Jool to supply fuel for Laythe.
-
Well, ascent stages are not important enough to be named... I make the docking adaptors for Damkina that they have big port on one side and small port on other side - grub can go on that small one and bee can go on big docking port on nose if nescessary.
-
Ok, now it is clear Well, I think we would use just "clips" fitted to regular Damkina class ship no need for special ship there - ships are expensive
-
Well, both Bee and Grub would be nescessary for those ammo trailers I proposed for Damkina mothership. Onboard of Hive, if it will be independent ship, you would need just a Grub.
-
Yes, arming Damkinas would make sense in some situations and would be efficient. Well, I´ve pictured hive ship like a kinda station... It floats in orbit with its ammo and fighters drop by when they need reload.... It will contain ammo and one grub droid to move ammo...
-
Well, I think that most viable option of arming (in case of need) Damkina is use those 4 small radial docking ports, just dump small missiles of defense system and replace them in orbit with more powerful ones...
-
Well... I was playing orbiter a way back and I did pay attention during science class, so I got some basic knowlegde of orbital mechanics to start with... Then it was trial and error, tutorials etc... And I learned aircraft design while building flying model aircraft for most of my childhood and somwhere I have a book about how to build a real aircraft
-
Less is sometimes more :-D I think even 240 will melt my computer :-D
-
Well... Military ships taught me a lot in KSP... How to dock, how to get huge stuff into orbit... And I like the feeling when mission is succesful

Close Kerbol fly-by by Damkina Proto C
-
Xeo: Well, I may not have your patience with long burns This setup may not be efficient but well, it looks good and give significantly shorter burn times. Just now I´ve took Damkina Proto C, which was left in orbit after launch with about 1000 units of Liquid fuel less than its full capacity and I was thinking - lets just for fun get Eeloo encounter... I did not, but I got Jool encounter after 7 minutes of burn time (2020m/s)... Then I started being very careful and I got to circular equatorial 150km Laythe orbit with 960 units of fuel left. But I was lucky - I got Laythe encounter without directly when coming into the Jool system, so no need for aerobrake over Jool got directly to Laythe aerobrake. But ship was without any cargo... Damkina Proto C with probes still attached Falcon SSTO (ex-Sparrow by zombiphylax) doing turn before final landing aproach on small island on Laythe.
-
Post pictures then But current setup of Damkina is kinda on the limit of practicality. I have made adaptor to atach on those radial points and expands number of docking ports and it works and you can modulary attach any kind of payload you want.... I suggest you take some docking tutorial videos brobel: To be honest, I like the previous design bit better - just make it easier to refuel Practicality is most important to the project. I also like better the weapon setup on that previous one.
