What DON'T we want in KSP?
Chrisd857 replied to Deathsoul097's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Anything that removes the free-form sandbox-style play as an option. It may be Kerbal Space Program, but part of the appeal is that, aside from rockets, I can fly planes, race cars, make reciprocating engines, rollercoasters, other theme park rides, catapults, boats, submarines... Really, it's Kerbal *(here are planets and physics, have fun)* Program -
Get to Mun... And return.. With no map view!
Chrisd857 replied to CrazedGunman502's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I present, Scott Manley. purely IVA except for some EVA on the Mun. It's a few versions old, though. -
I'd not push it, since I don't even like cheesecake. Push the BIG RED button. Gives you 0.26 tomorrow, or erases every save you currently have: 50/50 chances.

KSP nominated for Best Sci-Fi Game - Voting now open
Chrisd857 replied to CaptRobau's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Voted (from work and home). Do any graphs exist for days other than "Yesterday's Performance"? Because what it currently shows for yesterday is that we had a monstrous 88% of the Sci-fi votes. By how much are we actually winning? -

Madcow101689: In your career mode save, what do you see when you go to the VAB? You should have a 1-man capsule, one liquid tank size, one liquid engine, one SRB, an antenna, a parachute, and a girder piece. Do you have those? If not, can we see a screenshot of what you do/don't have?

Mass of vehicles/subassemblies
Chrisd857 replied to Jaxal1's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Without mods, the only way I know is to go to launch, go to map view, and look at the knowledge base stuff on the right, which will show mass (IIRC). -
Cupola module?
Chrisd857 replied to deepspacecreeper's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Part of me says "go found out yourself". The other part says, "yes, placing things on the attachment node will block the view out the central circular window, but (if the item is small enough) you can still see out the angled windows." -
Well, I haven't heard a parody, but after buying a music CD, I got the urge to write KSP lyrics to Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly". Introducing "Stage Me Deadly". It was quite convenient that "pretty baby" has the same number of syllables as "Jebediah". With apologies to Ford and Squad: Stage Me Deadly I went to the VAB last Saturday night It didn't get made, no design's in sight Uh, huh It ain't no big thing Late for the window and 'lignment was bad Had to wait four orbits to get to Laythe Uh, huh It ain't no big thing I went to the Mun last Saturday night I showed you screenshots, you'll watch all night Uh, huh It ain't no big thing But I know what I like I know I like launchin' with you And I know what you like I know you like launchin' with me Yeah, yeah Stage me once Stage me twice Come one Jebediah Stage me deadly Added some boosters, gettin' high Sittin', watchin' the stars go by Uh, huh It ain't no big thing Science to do but no gravity Lookin' at Minmus don't get it for me Uh, huh It ain't no big thing But I know what I like I know I like launchin' with you And I know what you like I know you like launchin' with me Yeah, yeah Stage me once Stage me twice Come one Jebediah Stage me deadly Stage me once Stage me twice Come one Jebediah Stage me deadly You know I like launchin' with you Launchin' with you Come on Stage me once Stage me twice Come one Jebediah Stage me deadly Stage me once Stage me twice Come one Jebediah Stage me Come one Jebediah Stage me Come one Jebediah Stage me deadly ^I'd spoiler this if they had ever fixed the security hole with them In terms of actual parodies that have caught on, the only one I'm familiar with is (unfortunately) not for KSP but for FIRST Robotics and is .

Rocket losing control
Chrisd857 replied to UnthinkableThinker's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In Nurph's first frame, you can clearly see a bunch of RTGs that are on the left and not the right, and that is at least part of the imbalance. -
^This. From this dev blog, some people have been overly reactive about adding a small bump to the left-hand side of this graph. 0.22-0.26ish to career will probably be like 0.13-0.18 was for flight, construction, and everything else. It will get better, and it may even become awesome. Please, have patience.

Never used KSPX, but the Skipper (stock) is essentially the Atlas (kspx).

Balancing career mode and sandbox. How are you going to do it?
Chrisd857 replied to Motokid600's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Because: *rumored 30% decrease in memory usage *reworked runway slope and lights *R&D building to drive and fly around *New island runway (you can stand within the tower!) *Reworked medium landing legs *...reasons -
Sounds like this would make a pretty good Episode of "It's Hardly Rocket Science".

New to the verse here! Just thought I'd share my first experience
Chrisd857 replied to ellindar's topic in Welcome Aboard
About career mode: yes, you are correct. They put the radio button in a few versions back as a place holder. But you're in luck, because (barring some horrible calamity) the first iteration of career mode is coming 0.22. -
Some desiccant should do nicely.

What if KSP had an ESRB Rating?
Chrisd857 replied to ExplodingRocketShips's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm thinking E10+ for mild comic violence (have you seen a Kerbal when glitched out?). That said, I've heard of plenty of younger folks playing, so it's not as though the rating system would make that much difference. Sample of deformed Kerbal -
Also, transmission of science uses quite a lot of electricity, so it is probably not advisable to transmit too much before some real electrical generation parts are on your craft.

What kind of Hardware do you use to run KSP
Chrisd857 replied to acidr4in's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Windows XP desktop Pentium 4 - 2.80 GHz 1 GB RAM ATI RADEON X300 128 MiB from 2005 Can be a bit of a struggle at times, but it's okay if you turn all settings to low and don't have anything else running. Doesn't support the re-entry shader unfortunately, and there are graphical glitches with flags and the settings page, but everything else works and looks fine. It can be a bit of slideshow, so don't look at the ocean (though 0.21 final made planes flyable because the frame rate finally improved). -
So, it looks like from watching the casts: * Crawler tracks actually go further up to the launchpad * Lightbulb icon in R&D is for some SCIENCE parts * (Preliminary) 1st node gives a decoupler, bigger and smaller tank, smaller more efficient engine. Next few have more science, radial decoupler, bigger SRB, winglets... * It's pretty easy to get past the 0th node in R&D * Runway has shallower slopes, and lights * Island runway is now sand, new hangars, can climb up and be inside control tower * R&D building has a wind tunnel structure, mission control in new spot, Kerbals seem to have a thing for hexagons * Recruitment building has the new background scene

Necessary link http://xkcd.com/644/ Anyway, I think kinetic energy from walking motions provides a fair bit more power.
-
I'm pretty sure I've seen videos where it goes up to E for exameters (10^18).
-
For those curious about what one can do on the parts shown: >100x100km orbit with 3 kerbals, Duna strand-landing with 1 kerbal, 72x72km orbit with 3 kerbals and entirely safe landing, and 4 kerbals safely landed on Mun are thataway.

The Tech Level 1 Orbital Challenge
Chrisd857 replied to FacticiusVir's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
You're worried about struts and fuel lines?... I can't even gain enough control authority to keep my somewhat larger things going UP. No thrust vectoring, electricity generated only by liquid engines... this is hard. How did Moar Boosters even manage his?
