Yes, but you don't know you're correct. SpaceX and other companies could die out after the ISS is done, but it doesn't mean they have to. They could very well thrive after the ISS is done and dusted up in space! Don't claim to be right when discussing something that no one knows that much about. It's another seven (7) years before the ISS is decommissioned- a lot could happen between now and then.

What is this, I don't even... I like the ICBM idea, but more along the lines of an orbital weapons depot... Build a space station that holds large amounts of weaponry and use it to attack an enemy ground base or defend KSC from invaders! Or, better yet, use it to attack ANOTHER orbital weapons depot!

False. I've almost gotten there, but not quite. The user below me is a physicist.

It also has a giant laser, if you don't remember this awesome movie.

Edit: SolarLiner's pic wasn't showing up, so I figured I was going for Destroyer... Fixed now: That's your moon rocket after Kerbals get their hands on it.

Squad Should Ask Microsoft For A Free Xbox One Development Kit
OrbitusII replied to NeoMorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
KSP on XBox One is an interesting idea, but XBOne is like Windows 8 in my opinion- Microsoft is trying to regain the business that they've been losing to Apple, and in doing so they're only making themselves look foolish. I personally can't see KSP on XBOne, but I won't argue with Squad if they do it. The real question is not whether it's possible to build KSP for XBOne (Unity will have that soon enough), but whether Squad will be willing to do so and if it's even worth it. KSP is very un-optimized and only uses a single core (AFAIK), so even with its impressive CPU I fear for the performance that console players would experience. Not to mention the lack of buttons on the controllers. -
Do you use abort systems to save your Kerbals?
OrbitusII replied to EiEiO's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've been using them a lot recently, notably on my Fairing'ed rocket series. I figure if I'm going to make a semi-realistic rocket I may as well make it function like it would in real life. -
Not incredible, but I'm happy with it.

Are you running Steam and KSP at the same time? If you don't have a decently powerful computer it may be a lack of memory. Here's recommended specs: * 2.0Ghz Dual Core CPU or higher (preferably higher) * 4GB RAM * 512MB Video Card, Shader Model 3.0 * 1GB Free HD space * Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 * An Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 or higher * A Debian based Linux distro To make a shortcut on OS X, just right click on the KSP icon and choose "Make Alias" and drag the newly created file to your desktop. You can also drag the KSP icon to the dock at the bottom of the screen (by default, anyway) and that will serve the same purpose.

New Space-X rocket is the most Kerbal rocket I've ever seen in real life
OrbitusII replied to ultra86's topic in The Lounge
The reason that humans haven't switched to an all-spaceplane fleet is because we haven't invested in it. There have been multiple concepts (Dreamchaser for one) that literally never got off the ground. We don't use spaceplanes yet because up until recently we haven't had the technology to do so. Reaction Engines Ltd. and their Skylon is the first spaceplane that's undergoing serious development, but unless they can get funding from the British government they may have to stop. We use vertical rockets because they're a well-known, (relatively) easy to design method of transporting cargo to space using a concept that's been around for ages. Making rockets mostly reusable is the next logical step in rocketry, so that's what SpaceX is doing. -
[AAR] Vengeance: A Journey To Space -- WARNING: IMAGE HEAVY

All I could think of. -
Yes, I have a Saturn V in this picture. No, it is not mine. I also have a KSP shirt. Yes, the shirt is mine. Close up. I think this is the first selfie I've ever posted on the interwebs.

In building Kerbin Base Station 5, I've only used one launcher. There was one launch (13.57 ton payload) that was a little harrowing because of the lower TWR, but apparently I designed the launcher so well that it should be able to get 20 tons into a 100-km orbit!

I use KSP from the official site. I bought it from the site long before it was available on Steam and I see no reason to switch. No fear or paranoia about Steam here, I just don't see a reason to use it.

And thus slowing down to 0 m/s to land back on the planet from orbit is completely impractical; just use heatshields and aerobrake. Edit: also the above post. That's also an important point.

Frameshift and FTL Drives– Puffin Technologies
OrbitusII replied to OrbitusII's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I think most of what I'd be doing is providing models for him. Since his plugin is at a mostly-complete state I think helping him would be more productive in the end. I'll see what I can do. I'll have to do the model over again anyway, so I may as well get some design input from him. -
And here's your engine after 50 years in the ocean.
-
Yep, it's obviously an older version of KSP, but it's no less funny, and it's certainly a good 'shop.

Would you buy expansion packs for KSP? How much?
OrbitusII replied to ngianoplus's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'd gladly buy DLC (once KSP is done) for $20 or less. Unfortunately, I bought KSP almost a year ago, and in March there was the decision to let anyone who bought before May get free DLC and Expansions, which is not something I think we deserve. I may be a frugal person, but I'm not a fan of the decision to give pre-May 2013 purchasers free expansions. I try to spend as little as I can, but if someone clearly puts a lot of effort into something that I think could be worth a lot more and then is essentially forced to give it away then I won't support it. -
The reason KSP is being updated repeatedly is because it is still in development. It's not going to be like Minecraft where the devs think "Ooh! Let's add this cool new feature to the game to get people interested again!" because Minecraft is past version 1.0, while KSP is only at version 0.21. From what I've heard and understand, Squad will finish KSP to the point where it doesn't need to be added to anymore, and then they'll move on to another game. Then they'll come back to KSP, add (more) expansions, and then move on to another game or add some expansions to Squad Game #2. As for DLC, it won't be something (relatively) insignificant like FAR, which is just an improved aerodynamics system and doesn't change gameplay to radically or add something major that totally changes everything. HarvesteR's idea of KSP DLC (from what I know) will be things like underwater exploration and extraterrestrial life; things that generally do not fit under the "Let's launch tons of little green men into space and blow stuff up!" banner.

Frameshift and FTL Drives– Puffin Technologies
OrbitusII replied to OrbitusII's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
As sad as I am to say it, I'm going to have to step down as an addon creator until further notice. I guess I've seen it coming for a while, first with my new job and my senior year starting in under a week, and now the loss of my files is just the final nail in the coffin. I really hate to do this to you guys, especially with so much stuff incomplete, but I simply won't be able to maintain a job, multiple intense AP classes, and trying to recover what I've lost. I'll see what I can do to recover the lost files (I think I've found a way) and I'll post them once they're back, in case someone else would like to take over. I won't ask a moderator to lock this thread, in case someone does want to resurrect the progress I've made. I'd love to see my mods at a version 1.0 state, and it would be even more amazing if they made it to KSP 1.0. Again, I am very sad that I won't be able to continue my production of Frameshift 2 and Thermostabilizers, especially after it's started to gain attention here on the forums. I've learned a lot about modeling, programming, and a little bit about how KSP works, so I have no regrets about actually doing what I did in the time that I had here. I won't be dead on the forums after this, I'll still be here, posting away. Heck, I might even sign up to be a moderator once I graduate! We'll see what the future holds once it comes around, but for now we'll have to live and move forward. I'll see you all on the forums! -OrbitusII -
I'm not sure why 12.04 doesn't include that feature, but I have no qualms with it. I know I have an Asus GeForce 8400 GS from around 2010, and if Ubuntu doesn't know that but still performs admirably I'm fine with it. Good to have this resource though, thanks. And I too enjoy the decreased overhead, it makes everything run smoother than the old family laptop I was using.
