[0.25] Lionhead Aerospace Inc. - Icarus v0.4 updated
UltraVires replied to Yogui87's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I've just been playing around with the Icarus, and I have a few thoughts... 1) It's awesome! 2) It seems very laggy for me. When I load the Craft file Icarus that comes with the download, it seems very laggy. When I hand build one it is still laggy, but less so. As a benchmark, I can usually launch stock rockets up to 100 parts without lags bane kicking in. (I have an older system) 3)In about 50% of launches the ship becomes uncontrollable, I thought this might simply be a bug, but I looked at the mission report in game (f3) and found out that the Crew was killed, even though the launch went normally. I was experimenting with the Life Support mod, so it might just be that. I'll check around some more. Also, the small pictures of the crew, in the bottom right of the screen do not appear either... Don't know if those are separate issues. Otherwise, its a very nice ship! Well done. Reminds me of the "Pegasus", from the BBC Grand Tour Documentary (can't remember the name). -
Well, I couldn't find the Citation Nibb31 wanted, but I do remember the Incident that Tommygun is referring to. Happened during the 90's I think... I did find this tho, with a quick google search http://news.discovery.com/space/history-of-space/satellites-cold-war-hacking-china.htm This article refers to China's ability to perform Anti-Satellite operations, which has come about in the last 10-20 years, including the fact that they may already be messing with NASA orbital missions. I even heard a Conspiracy theory that the loss of the Mars Observer Spacecraft was because the Chinese destroyed it with one of their own probes. I can't confirm that though... There are several countries on Earth now with the capability of attacking and destroying targets in space. Seems space is about to be a pretty busy place...

Ah yes, The legend of the Forum Kraken... and you tell it well Void. My own former self was lost in the Great Upheaval... Good thing Kerbal's mastered Cloning years ago...

Still lots of awesome goodness in this thread! Great work with the eagle pods Logan, I'm impressed, as always. and thanks for the craft files, the Kethane Eagle is unstoppable! Can't wait till your done with Serenity Devo. (still bugs me that show was cancelled even without a whole season... stupid networks) Question: will we be able to "walk" around inside the ship, like the cargo bay etc? That would be awesome! Also, very happy to hear about Kerbtown and that Moonbase Alpha might someday make an appearance!

just posting some cool screenies I took feel free to use em in the post if you want frizzank! I Finally did get the Winged Gemini to fly, just had to add some extra wings Buzzing the Island Field Tower And my experiment at building an Interplanetary Ship... I'll let you know how it goes... Update: After all this space flight, I thought the ship could use a nice bath...

Easily one of my favorite mods for KSP, Well Done! Plus, the Gemini interior makes a nice addition to Devo''s excellent "Eagle" mod from Space 1999. Been running it fine with no problems! well... except for flying the Winged Gemini. I have tried using the SAS as you suggest, and I can hold it stable until I get low in the atmosphere, after that, if I try to turn, or maneuver to land, it just flips end over end and my Kerbals perish... For Science! As a Suggestion, could you include a docking port front for the Winged Gemini? I have a Big G in orbit, but it sure would look cooler with a W-Gemini docked on to it! Maybe you could make it a covered docking port, like the stock "Shielded Clamp-o-tron" so as to keep an aerodynamic look? On the Spaceport, some of the comments say the tree stuff isn't working for them: but the parts show up on the Tech Tree just fine in Career Mode for me. No Trouble researching them either, except for getting the science anyway. Keep up the good work!

LOGAN! You Sneaky so and so! I was just about to send Devo a huge PM about the Eagle too! Then you beat me to the punch! Gonna try out your changes right now, and see how it goes. Welcome back btw! I've been keeping a low profile myself, just lurking on the boards. Been busy IRL like you. I know how you feel with your Dad, my grandmother is in pretty bad shape as well... and like Viper, much respect for looking out for your family, "Blood is thicker than water"

A Step Closer To The Alcubierre Drive!
UltraVires replied to Omicron314's topic in Science & Spaceflight
@Awaras and drakesdoom... Lol @ both! XD But i'm not sure strategy and tactics are the "Mighty white man's ways" since they will, as shown, work for anybody. drakesdoom is more right than not, as many of the tactics currently employed by the U.S. Military have their origins from the various Native American conflicts, either developed during that period, or copied directly from the Native Americans. The American "Indian" tribes were the originators of Guerrilla Warfare. I compare Jake Sulley to Pocahontas in that he chose to side with another people over his own for love, not quite the classic Pocahontas story, but close enough. In military parlance he "went native". Keep it goin guys... we'll get back to that Warp Drive eventually... LOL -
A Step Closer To The Alcubierre Drive!
UltraVires replied to Omicron314's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Wow, some good discussion in here, but I think some of you have seen "Avatar" OR "Pocahontas in the 25th Century" a little too much as well. (though in the Avatar, the dude is actually Pocahontas... lol) Depending on which modern answer the the Drake Equation you want to use, they're are either, 1-2 intelligent species in the Milky Way, or there are almost a 1000... Again, depends on which numbers you want to use. I think most people in this thread are making the assumption that any Aliens we are likely to meet will be MORE technologically advanced than we are, but the facts don't really support that assumption. Consider, the Milky Way is one of the older Galaxies (at least as far as we can tell) and the Sun (Sol) is one of the oldest, most stable stars in the Milky Way. While I do think (or at least hope) that they're are other thinking beings in the Universe, the possibility does exist, and seems more likely everyday, that WE are the most technologically advanced species in the Galaxy... Doesn't that just make you feel warm a fuzzy... The only way we'll know for sure, is to build our own Warp Drive, and go take a look. Maybe we'll find ruins on a lot of planets, that had Civilization, but for whatever reason, destroyed themselves (as we have almost done a couple of times). Maybe we'll just find a bunch of microbes and bacteria... But the only way we'll know for sure, is to go and see. For those of you using models of Human behavior (the Conquest of the Americas etc.) as scenarios for Alien behavior are wishfully thinking at best. I can think of numerous instances where "cultural misunderstandings" contributed to war. For example, in WW2, the Japanese thought if they destroyed the US Fleet at Pearl Harbor, that we would surrender to them. They would not have surrendered to us in similar circumstances, so why did they think we (the US) would? Cultural Bias (such a better phrase than "Rascisim" don't you think ) The Japanese did not understand American culture, and vice versa. You can never just assume that the other person will behave in the same manner that you would in a given situation... though human beings seem driven to ignore this fact on a daily basis. -

You've seen "Event Horizon" one too many times Tommygun.... Personally I can't wait for real Warp Drive... That's one of the things I think has held us back as a species... We have always been explorers, always going over the next hill, across the next ocean... Maybe for money, maybe just for the hell of it! But the Ocean of stars is very hard to sail through... I think of myself now, like someone watching Columbus's ships get built. Standing on the edge of the Known world, watching a new era of human history just beginning... -
@softweir Thanks!, it just took a second, but I'm DL'ing now... wonder if we got any new parts as well?
-
LOL, I can't get the Store on kerbalspaceprgram.com to open... there are so many ppl getting the update, the website is running Lag's Bane.... Nice to see so many people liking the game tho... Now to make Jeb explode one last time in .21 !!!!

"The word is given... Warp Speed!" Very cool Dude!

Anyone ever read "Rendezvous with Rama"? I think our first contact with aliens (if there are any) will be their equivalent to Voyager or Pioneer. A Robot probe will come whistling through the solar system one day, just minding its own business, and find us... It's entirely possible that there could be a an alien space probe watching Earth right now, from somewhere in the outer solar system, and we would never know... And for those of you worried about getting invaded by aliens, keep worrying! Earth has been radiating radio signals in all directions since before 1900... by this point all any alien within 150 light years has to do to find us is turn on his radio and listen... (that's where SETI got the idea)

MOAR FUELZ Hooji! Good Lord Man! I have trouble getting one big orange tank into orbit.... any Pics of the whole launcher?

[0.90] Magic Smoke Industries Infernal Robotics - 0.19.3
UltraVires replied to sirkut's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Nice Devo!!! I never knew you had such great legs..... My one suggestion is that they might be a little too big, I like the 3rd pair especially, but it looks like you might have trouble sticking stuff (like solar panels etc) on the sides of your rocket with those. I do like that they are big, but I wonder if you could make them a little more narrow, or have the foot pads fold down into the rest of the gear; that would allow more room for extra stuff! Great work as always dude! -
[0.22.X] BobCat ind. Historical spacecraft thread
UltraVires replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Just stopped by to say Bobcat is doing his usual Awesome job making parts! If you stick a couple of solar panels and a Kethane detector on the EDS, once you detach the lander... it makes a good satellite! And the LER... what can I say about the LER... Don't even think I need a DEMV now! I drive it sideways half the time, just for fun! Speaking of solar panels... I am having some trouble getting the solar panels to stay on the Orion Service module. When I get to orbit, and jettison the fairings on the service module they usually take off some solar panels with them. I've edited the configs to make the jettison force lower, which seems to help, but I still sometimes lose a panel or two! That's the only actual problem I've found in the pack so far... Great Work Bobcat! Now that we have Russian and American spaceships... all we need is working multiplayer, and we can do Apollo-Soyuz! You bring Vodka, I'll bring Bourbon, and good times will be had by all! Lol Edit: Just thought of this... Is there a way to dock the Russian and American pack ships together? Hmmm. Off to check if the Apas 69 will fit on the Orion port... -
(0.20.x) Magna-Tech Electro-Magnetic Pack. (Wayland Corp.)
UltraVires replied to Devo's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I'm Back Baby! (Again) OK, computer problems fixed yet again (this is the 2nd comp I've killed in as many years... ) Apparently when a case fan dies, and you don't know about it... your computer dies too... and stinks up the house! So, I've just been checking the forums on my phone lately... that being said... just started DL'ing the new stuff Devo! Awesome! Can I request a part? I'd like some kind of ready made robot Skycrane, for landing base modules, rovers, etc. That would be awesome! Nothing big and Fancy like the WT-51 for example, just a disposable skycrane to drop stuff off with. -
Actually in the movie he's holding his helmet, so we don't know if it's broken or not... In real life, Gen. Yeager lost control of his F-104 Starfighter, and ejected. When he did, he was in such a violent spin that when the seat separated from him and his parachute opened, the seat flew back around and hit him in the side of the head, with the part of the seat that still contained burning ejection rockets... Broke his helmet and burned the left side of his head and neck. Chuck Yeager took a rocket to the face and kept on trucking... Now that's a Test Pilot! Nice pic Tommy

Interplanetary flights are one of the harder things to do in KSP... it's also KSP's "bread and butter" so its something that everyone has to learn eventually (unless you use MechJeb to fly your ships, like I used to...) This website is as close as I have ever found to an "Orbital Mechanics for Dummies" http://www.braeunig.us/space/orbmech.htm If your not interested in the science, just skip down to the "Orbital Maneuvers" section. Lots of good info on there... I've been thinking about making a tutorial video for doing interplanetary missions forever (though I think there already are a couple out there) would anyone else be interested in that? Takes me forever to upload something to youtube, so I don't wanna do it if no one is going to watch... Basically think of it like playing pool (Billiards for those Europeans among us) except that you are playing AS one of the balls... The biggest thing is waiting for the planets to line up right for your "shot" I usually just eyeball a 90° angle or "L" shape with me at the bottom right corner of the L and the planet I want to get to at the top corner of the L. Make sure your orbit is coming up "behind" the planet when you burn though, or you won't make it. That's very basic though... there is much more you can do. If you have the Protractor mod, it will tell you the correct phase angle you need for any planet, and adjust it for your ships speed and mass. MechJeb 1.8 (the old one) will just fly the burn for you, and you won't have to worry about it. MechJeb 2.08 (the new one, and the one I use) will set up a maneuver node for you at the correct spot in your orbit, and you can change it to suit yourself, or let MechJeb fly it as well.
