  1. I'm not sure about its scope but I hear people mention Orbiter as a fairly realistic simulator. I really can't give you much information on how it runs, only that it appears to have a small helpful community like KSP and also appears to have a base of people making mods for the sim. Again though, I'm not entirely sure as I'm a certified KSP addict.
  2. Personally I'm kind of agreeing with the OP's post with the caveat that when career mode finally hits I'm wondering how stats on the Kerbals will impact the fly-ability of our rockets. Having odd ball pilots at the helm with low stats, not sure how that is going to work, might make for some interesting ascents don't you think?
  3. I thought the design was very creative! Using those one man pods in the body was clever. Like a small mini "crew deck" of sorts. How was the decent? Easy to control? From the pictures it looks like it's smooth as silk.
  4. Thank you so much for your efforts making this! I've already used the site twice now and just wow. I've always had issues with getting the aerobraking / aerocapture to work properly but having this calculator handy has made some of my mission planning so much more fun now.
  5. Yes! I love having ol' Jeb around for the mundane tasks I've grown exceptionally tired of doing over and over. But when it comes to docking, there is nothing like flying in on manual and getting that link up. Its so much fun!
  6. Doesn't the indicator at the top of the screen go from meters to km, and Mm ? That's all I was saying, should have left out the feet example sorry Was just confusing since some of the objectives do have it labeled I'm guessing then those are just the cosmetic touches when it gets closer to being finished.
  7. Have you read some of those posts? Holy god the ego in some of them is so think you need boots. Again, I was only trying to give a shout to the modders.
  8. Thank you! I so just got caught up in the moment I felt compelled to throw out a general good job to all the modders. What really hit me after reading those discussions was that in all the stock vs not stock it seemed like people forget that normal people take time to make those mods. I guess the vitriol did indeed get to me so I thought it couldn't hurt to give them a shout out. Then maybe beg for a Bell X-1 mod/part from some kind bored mod developer.... Jebediah Yeager.. it must happen!
  9. I really just meant it as a pure shout out to the devs and mods for all their hard work. Hence why I posted this in the general add-on section. I wasn't trying to "instigate" anything my friend. If your ego was somehow bruised then I guess my original post still applies. Continue your troll.
  10. Isn't there some sort of award for pulling off multi-dockings like this? I mean holy crap man!
  11. Holy poopie! That is a piece of art! Getting the placement down of all those parts had to have taken forever! /salute I guess I have found the craft I will use in my new mun landing video I'm working on. Just wow...
  12. I really learned a lot from the wiki page for Kerbal Space Program. It's here in the tutorials section. On the page you can find some simple relay configurations that work rather well and they also have a few basic Comm satellites you could mimic. Or if getting the exact orbital positioning is proving difficult you can use how they setup their network as a guide and just add a few more satellites to cover misplaced positioning. I know for me I had some issues getting that placement just right for the minimalist approach to work by doing it with the least amount of equipment. It can be done though! Once ya get this under your belt you should give that GPS mod a try. Getting those orbits setup can be fun as well since there is so many! It also looks very impressive on the map screen.
  13. First I want to give a general shout out to all you modders and devs out there who work so hard to contribute to this game. After having seen the zillionth pseudo argument about stock vs non stock erupting among the kiddies and those with over inflated sense of completely misplaced egos in the General section of the forums I felt compelled to come here and just say thanks for all your hard work. Variety is the spice of life as they say and the variety you all choose to add to this game certainly gives it that added spice to keep my interest as this game develops.
  14. I laughed so hard when the music first came up. I swear now all darn day I'll be humming those bars of music lol. Can't wait to see how your hard work will develop on this one.
  15. My only reply to this would be you are playing with "Mods" right now. More than a few parts in your so called stock install were all mod parts in 0.20. This pattern is a repeating one since the game was released. I believe some devs were lifted from the mod crowd?? When you really think about it we can't call the game "stock" until its official release since it's a constantly developing and moving target. As many have stated some of the mods actually bring your game closer to real life than the so called stock installs. Alaskafish mentions Kethane. That mod mimics modern plans to get us back from Mars and is pseudo based in real science (ok the kerbal killing machine for kethane is a bit over the top lol). Not sure how that is considered cheating though since it's based on real life mission plans. And lets not forget the devs are adding in this sort of system to the game anyway so the whole argument is really null and void anyway and we circle back to my original paragraph, Your playing with mods right now. Are all the mods balanced? Hell no. Is it fairly easy to figure out what mods are based on outlandish and overpowered parts/equipment? Yep. One peek through the addon forums and you can quickly figure out what mods are shooting for a more realistic game and those that are more based in SciFi. Comments left by the community are usually spot on in calling out the obviously unbalanced parts.
  16. "No mods! All stock, no Mechjeb. (Did Neil and Buzz land by auto pilot?" While I agree doing a challenge you want to make things interesting the MechJeb statement is false. Who guided the LEM into a boulder field? The autopilot. Who controlled the engine gimbling? the autopilot. So to answer your question "Did Neil and Buzz land by auto pilot", yes and no. He took over and manually landed when the computer screwed up. Who controlled the command modules decent in Earth's atmosphere? The autopilot. Ok, my two cents
  17. Really enjoying the mod. Thanks for keeping it up and going. My only issue are the "naked numbers" in the mission guidelines. It would say "Min apoapsis <some number here> ??" Meters? Km? feet? Small detail but made it a bit confusing trying to figure out what the mission was trying to tell me to do.
  18. Still interested here. Well only if when it gets to be my turn I can spice up my launch video a bit. My channel isn't really full of narrated launch videos so I was hoping I could still film it but just spice it up some in my own way. Since I'm going near the end there should be some epic shots of our depot with all those tanks that can easily be spiced up some.
  19. One thing that makes MechJeb nice that other people might not mention is the custom window editor. Having the ability to make my own information windows is fairly handy. Others will point out that this information is available within Kerbal Engineer as well although I'll have to check if you can customize it somehow, I'm really not sure but I know it is there. Both the mods are so well done so enjoy the selection Of course as the other posts point out all the autopilot features are nice but can take away from the achievement somewhat. Although seeing how it's done, sort of, then doing it on your own can be just as fulfilling in my opinion.
  20. Ok my two cents ... Personally I loved Mechjeb for what it was to *me* , A great training tool. It was easier for me to mimic things like docking procedures by following along with Mechjeb. Getting that whole rendezvous down pat was difficult for me but with ol' Mechjeb and that wonderful rendezvous planner (You know that one that breaks it down to its individual phases, not the auto rendezvous) I was able to slowly master it. Sure I could have gone the trial and error route or dive much deeper into the math to calculate Hoffman transfers but... hey, I'm lazy. For me it also doesn't seem to match results from protractor or a few of the websites that have planetary transfer calculators. If I follow the calculators advice then I tend to come out better on the DeltaV management than Mechjeb. Still... being lazy sometimes I'll hit that autopilot button and go make coffee while my computer dances like a little monkey. As for auto docking? Well, I'm more of a cowboy docker, charge in and hope things don't go boom! ( I should start recording all my dockings to capture some epic explosions ) Besides, Mechjeb can't really line things up like I can!
  21. Oh man oh man, my docking isn't always the smoothest operation and most of the time I'm praying not to destroy the whole station. As for the panels, I tend to retract them just because I've gotten in the habit of making some weird designs lately and have lost many a Kerbal smacking into those panels, followed by a module or two... then boom! Weeeeee!!!!
  22. I just hope the creator of the KW mod is doing well. When people go poof the worriers like myself start to wonder!
  23. /bump what TheThing345 has said. While no community is without its Trolls for the most part I've found KSP to be one big happy place to be. Maybe it has something to do with the learning curve associated with this game? It can be a lot to digest and I've fond that this community tends to close ranks and help out the beginners. Certainly the brain power lurking in this community might have something to do with its open and friendly nature. Glad to have you here!
  24. Strange objects on the Mun? Mysterious signals beamed toward Duna? Gratuitous rip off of several stories/music scores? It's all right here in part 1!
  25. You can find part 2 in my YouTube videos. Direct link below. Enjoy!! Working on a Duna series now. First one should be out soon.
