I'm not an American but this all seems so weird. They just go back and forth, and cannot get a solid plan of what they want to do. At least in the sixties there was a clear goal. Going back to the Moon would indeed would be great, but who knows, maybe it'll get cancelled again... and again...

[Showcase] Non Asparagus Launch Vehicles
Karriz replied to AustralianFries's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
What part do people use to create those Soyuz-style side rockets? Is it the airplane tail? -
I've got the same issue. Maybe it's only happening on the Steam version, I'm not sure.

They are going to send a whole bunch of unmanned modules before even trying a manned mission, so I see two possible outcomes: 1) They come to the conclusion that the technology isn't ready yet, and postpone the manned launch beyound 2023. 2) Everything works fine and they go for it. Either way, no harm done, even if the outcome number 1 is more likely. I'm not going to hold my breath, since they don't even have a contract with SpaceX yet. In fact, it seems like SpaceX has its own colonization plans, which will probably be better thought of.

[1.1.3] Large Structural Components [24th August 2016]
Karriz replied to udk_lethal_d0se's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Just what I wanted, stock-compatible station parts. Really good looking stuff. -
Use the docking mode, that'll turn off the torque. Are your brakes on? Do you have electricity?

What is the one thing that you have learned while playing KSP?
Karriz replied to michaelphoenix22's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Orbital mechanics. There was a time when I had quite big misconceptions on why things go around. -
I definitely need the information that Mechjeb provides (delta-v, speed, altitude), otherwise it feels like I'm flying blind. When designing a rocket, I need to know if it's capable of getting anywhere in the first place. Without Mecheb's delta-v display I can only guess.

I know they won't succeed, but I hope they do succeed. They plan to send a bunch of unmanned missions at first, at least that's something. They shouldn't send anyone to Mars until they've proven that the colony can be 100% self-sufficient. (or has a return capability)

I suppose that would be a good idea. Way too often I've forgot to deploy the solar panels and ran out of power. I also tend to forget putting an ASAS on my ship while building it.
-
I've also found myself drawing spaceships into my notebook way too often. Well, it doesn't affect my learning much.
-
Well, 630 is pretty much the same as 440. This sounds like a driver problem, or possibly cooling-related.

I don't think any nation would be particularly interested in claiming territories in space at the moment. Mining for resources wouldn't be profitable, and manned colonies would be focused on science. Same thing already applies to Antarctic. Space race worked because both US and Soviets wanted to prove their technological and ideological superiority. international cooperation would of course be preferable.

This is fairly easy to achieve with a physics engine such as Box2d. Are you supposed to code your own physics for the project? I'm playing around with the idea of an "realistic" 2d space game, and this helped me a lot to get started: http://appcodingeasy.com/Gideros-Mobile/Gideros--Box2d-magnets You have to calculate the vector between two points, which is basically x2-x1, y2-y1. It's also a good idea to calculate the distance between the objects, so that the strenght of gravity varies depending on it.

At the moment KSP is the only game I play, it's been that way ever since March. Overall, 150 hours or so. My all-time most played game is Battlefield 2 + mods with over 300 hours, and I've played most other BF games as welll for hundreds of hours. I'm not too interested in BF4, though. Seems like a generic cash-grab shooter. I'm not sure will I play anything else except KSP for a long, long time.

Do all the developers live in Mexico? They've hired quite a few modders, so do some of them work over the internet?

How to stuck lunar module in this
Karriz replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, doing things Apollo-style is possible, and in fact surprisingly efficient. I put a lander below the main spacecraft, and once in space, I dock it to the command module. -
Some kind of amateur probe mission will probably happen sooner or later, and crowdsourcing could be a great way to fund such a project. Mars One's plan is a bit too ambitious at this point, but it's important that they're at least trying. I think going to the Moon would be a better idea at first. I don't think a government agency could crowd fund their mission. It doesn't sound legal. There should simply be more international cooperation.

Is there any movie that takes place a couple hundred years in the future when mankind has colonized the entire solar system? No warp drives or other star systems. It would be an interesting setting. Cities on Mars, maybe beginning the terraforming process etc. There's just so much potential, but for some reason monsters. Monsters everywhere.

KSP (re)reviewed - 'Good Game', ABC Australia
Karriz replied to Switchblade88's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, I'm surprised that media aknownledges the existence of PC gaming. And hey, they actually got to Duna, that's something. -
I don't leave them behind, they just set up a permanent colony/space station.
-
This is a very common problem. Some people have fixed it by updating their sound card drivers. I also have this issue but I'm used to it. Hopefully it'll go away in future. Also happens on high-end PCs.

This probably belongs to the spacecraft exhange. I'm not sure if you're allowed to put mods in the download file, though. Some modders don't like it.
